layedout, I guess what I meant was at the top, you think there will be enough wheel clearance? Esp if you had the wheel turned and tried lowering it by accident, seems like its gonna be tight, but could just be how the pics look. I guess they should work seeings I haven't heard this problem come up before.

I could probably almost turn all the way and all the way down with all the room there is. I have had a lot of bagged vehicles in the past and learned that lesson quick. I don't anticipate that being an issue. I haven't put my spacers on there yet either. That should give me extra room

cool let me know, I'll cross that bridge soon. On my static drop 51' I just started hitting pass side inner fender (so I believe) but its when I'm going slow and really cut it hard. Never did that before so I dunno what's going on, have to look closer at it. I run 1.5" spacers up front I believe and 2" in the back. I'm also running a 14" bias white wall which is easily as tall as a 15" s10 tire.

looks great, helps to have the engine in there for moch up. Your prolly gonna have to really redo that original rad support or just make a new one. Gets a little tight up front. I'm running and Efan and still kicked my rad just a little, but I got about 2" from the firewall to distributor, so it just depends on where you plop your engine. Also helps to put hood on, latch it and then see where your front end metal wants to sit, and base your rad support off of that as well because thats what really keeps the front metal from sagging down, as well as the inner fenders.

Yeah, like 99 said, fit the hood too. The height of the rad support makes a huge difference on how the hood fits at the rear edge to the cowl...learned that the hard way!!

What really helped me was to install the support rods from the firewall to the fenders, and adjust them as per the instructions on stovebolt.com. Put as much of it back together as possible and raise or lower the front clip until it all lines up. Hood to fender gaps were the most telling of whether or not I was getting close. Don't mount anything to the frame until you're sure you have it exactly where you want it. Even then, I made my mounts adjustable.

Thanks for all the tips and tricks. They are def helping a lot. I will have to wait until i get help to do the front sheet metal, i started striping the firewall inside and getting all the gauges and wiring out.

I mounted the bed and got everything mocked up. I was able to mount the body almost 6.5 inches off the frame. Thats makes plenty of room for the trans tunnel and driveshaft. Since i am bagging it i wanted it to be pretty low but 6.5 put my running boards on the ground when its all the way down. That will give me more room for exhaust and stuff too. here is a pic of the bed on it (not mounted yet).

Seemed like a lot to me as well. That's from frame to the bottom of the cab, not the mounting point. Being bagged I wanted to maximize my lift/lowering capabilities. And that's what got me the most.

wow, looking great. Is the one pic your ride height or max lift? how far off you got your running boards from ground?
you running stock or drop spindles? man the patina on them fenders you used on your tubs are awesome, sux you had to cut them up. nice come up on the rims and tires. so fitting. |

That Picture is ride height. I made the running boards level with the frame so It would lay on the ground when the frame did. I do have drop spindles as well. The fenders I am using for tubs were really ate up on the bottoms. Not in good shape at all. Im probably going to clear the truck the way it is and roll. I love it

Thanks for the replies and comments. 1lo67 I sent you a pm. I have decided to go a different route with the motor, I sold my 350 and bought a 5.3/ls1 to drop into it. Its what i wanted to begin with, I was just intimidated. I only want to do this thing once! so why not. Ill post more pics when i get progress done.

Well had a couple set backs in the build. Sold my carbed 350 setup and decided it needed a 5.3. picked up a 04 5.3L from a silverado with computer harness and trans only 750. not a bad deal for around here, Made me make the jump to the LS world. Of course this turns my deadline/goal for the spring time!

I found that motor and knew what I had to do. So i bought it and sold my 350. Always wanted a ls and the reliability of fuel injection.

Truck looks awesome. Nice score on the LS too. I have a few questions if you dont mind... quite a few actually, I'll number them! 1. Did you modify the cab mounts to get your cab to sit 6.5" off the frame? Did you mount the support brackets on the mounts in the same place Jeff suggested at 3.5 and 3.75"? I'm hoping to mount the cab as you did and still lay frame... I want to avoid making a drive shaft cut out. 2. Did the S10 headers interfere with the stearing linkage at all? I'm unsure of which type to get. 3. What gas tank did you use? I was hoping I could use the original s10 gas tank since the LRD 6 (bought the kit) link came with the raised tank cross member... wondering if the cab gets in the way. 4. What size and type bags did you use in the rear? I have RE8's but was told they might be too large for this kit... not sure if the size issue was meant if installed in an S10. 5. What size white walls are you running? 6. What motor mounts did you go with when mounting the 350? I have more questions but don't want to wear out my welcome! looks killer in there. them headers look sweet. who did the wire harness? looks nice and clean. I'm def doing an LS swap in my next truck after I finish up this one. One thing I hate with the IFS and racks as opposed to the s10's are the steering linkage. Looks like you should have straight shot to that pump correct?

Thanks guys. The headers are stainless s10 swap headers from ebay. The wire harness was a stock truck harness that I sent off to lsx-harness.com to have emissions removed and have the computer flashed. They also put my car injectors on and made it 3 wire operational. Set it up with a couple relays and fuse panel. All I have to supply to the harness is power, ground, and ignition.

Looks awesome. Wait till you drive it then you will really be glad you made the swap. The LS throttle response is amazing and also feels like it has twice the power over a carbed 350. I just pulled an old wore out 350 carb setup from my suburban and swapped in a 5.3 with a 4l60e trans. What a huge difference. Not to mention the fuel economy should increase as well.

To use the car intake you gotta have the intake of course, need fuel injectors and rails from a car. Need an idler pulley relocator from dirty dingo. For driveby wire throttle you need a car water pump and dirty dingo water pump spacers. The plugs on the injectors from the harness are different. You can get adapters or buy the right connector and splice it on.
