Part of learning is making mistakes and figuring out how to do it different. There isn't a car I haven't worked on and not looked backed and said, "you know, we could have done this or that instead of what we did..." You are more than welcome to send me a PM if you have any ???. I will answer the best I can based on what I know. I welcome you to get a second opinion because sometimes you have to look at it a couple of different ways to figure out the best way for you. Keep up the great work, you are well on your way to a great looking truck. D |
Re: Project Slo-Go 67
we powerwashed the '72 crossmember, will buy a engine hoist from northern tools this week hopefully and try to get the crossmember out of the parts truck. then try to plan and yank the motor/trans out of the 67 to do the swap. I was contemplating buying por 15 or just degreasing/powerwashing the 67 frame, and priming with self etch, and chassis black. any suggestions on which route to take?

Re: Project Slo-Go 67
I used this stuff www.nomorerust.com works very well and I applied it with a cheap foam brush. Must have a clean etched surface for any of the stuff to stick well though...

ok we made some progress on the parts truck. We removed the springs and trailing arms. and we were also able to get the front crossmember off. now i have to look at the mc/booster and see what it will take to get it off. do you know if the mc/booster and rod will attach to the 67 brake pedal or will i need to take the brake pedal assembly off the 72 and install on the 67? attached are a few pics.

Had a pretty productive day. pulled the coresupport, and radiator to get ready for the crossmember swap. Pulled the cab as well, since the PO has the ebrake cables wired to the frame and trans crossmember. I will have to figure out how the ebrake get mounted to the frame properly. Tomorrow i will power wash the frame and engine/trans, hopefully i can get the engine/trans pulled as well.

we made some progress over the last couple of days. we have the frame stripped down. we have sprayed it with oven cleaner, power washed it, and are in the final process of finishing it up with the wire wheel. The 15 yo is really getting into the teardown and rebuild, so i will try to keep it going at a good pace. My youngest son is also lending a hand.
There is no turning back now! |

I got sidetracked working on my old indian 50cc (MM5A) for my youngest who will turn 2 Friday. |
Re: Project Slo-Go 67
Love the bike! I think it's great that your sons are helping you. Frame is looking good too! Hopefully as your oldest (I have no idea how many you have...) will want an older truck instead of a newer "dur-dur" Honda when he gets old enough to drive!

well, we have the rear suspension in and all bolted up now. I need to run the brake line and make a mount for the brake junction to mount on the rear crossmember. we have the front crossmember mounted as well. We need to clean up the rotors and springs, then paint the rotors, spindles, and springs so we can continue the front install.

Re: Project Slo-Go 67
Lookin' awesome!! You are a tad bit futher on your frame than I am. It's alot of fun when you can work on something without getting dirty.. When you get done for the day you can look at it and see that you have got something done. Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments guys! Im trying to keep it interested so my 15 yo doesnt get burnt out but he's doing pretty good thus far.
|
Re: Project Slo-Go 67
Excellent project, i am sure he will stay interested, just don't bust his arse too much, otherwise, but honestly i am sure he will want to be the first one to drive it.
