Nice color on your '66! Where did you get those mirrors? I like the look of those to put on my '61....Had peepers but can't see sh*t :cool:with them...

Thanks,

Gracias Amigo mio,

I like the color too -- look at it just right and it has a purple hue to the blue. Looks flat gorgeous in morning and afternoon light. Sheepishly, I must admit, I purchased this baby with most of the work done. Since I've had it (about three months) I tore out the old wood bed (was already 25 percent gone) and installed a new steering gear. That was a real challenge since power steering system is not original equipment. As well, the side mirror came with it. I have seen the same side mirror (I need another one for the passenger side) advertised as reproduction on LMC. Check it out here:

Thanks again for your comment!

Gracias a Udsted companeiro!

I'll check out LMC's site...Just want to avoid the humpty dumpy ear side mirrors, effective but uncool.....

Good thing you purchased it like that because though the work can be fun it;s still WORK lol...

Hasta luego,

Our previous '66 GMC before, after hit by a 15 year old in a Focus, and the project it became. That is a home made 4dr, using the original '66 cab, the rear cab is a '63 with 8" taken out of the front section of doors, top to bottom. All sitting on a stock lwb '63 torsion bar,x frame.

I have the vacuum operated cruise module, but recently was told it won't work because I don't have the ECM from the donor truck. Didn't know I needed it. Oh well, I got muscle memory for now. Lift foot, hover over accelerator, drop foot, hold for duration of trip. The farhtest I drive is to Nashville or Paducah anyway. No need for cruise to go an hour or less away. If I move agin, I will look into it then. I move a lot (6 states in8 years). The Army keeps my family pretty mobile. My daughter only keeps what she can physically carry (extra stuff) toys and things like that). I am blessed to have such an understanding and dedicated family. They sit patiently while I go conduct business and seldom complain about moving.

I am a long time faithful Painless wiring fan/installer. It's the only harnessses we use in our shop. I've been wiring customs for 20 years and they seem to stay on top of it.
My personal project uses the 18 circuit chassis harness, the tbi fuel injection kit and the new Phantom Key system.(thinkI added 200 lbs in just wiring! LOL)

New to this Great forum, I found it accidentally.

Like I say, some of the best roads I have ever been on,
were because of a detour.

I did a frame off on my '62, took me 8 month's to complete.
It was my first attempt at a vehicle.
A true labor of Love.

Of course you would, you've got a similar setup on your truck...

But I have to agree that the second photo is indeed the best of the three.

Thanks for the comments on wheels dudes. I have big changes in mind at the beginning of the year. Just bought GM moldings still in the packages, a set of 22" centerline smoothies, and just talked to Dino about bagging my 65 hopefully before the March Goodguys. May not be worthy of a build, but I'll post pictures on here with progress!

Tim if I ever absolutely have to mow under it, I'll have you come get..lol
I was trying to find out if there was a way to track down who this was built for. I was told by the owner his dad bought it at an Army auction. I am trying to find out what unit it was with so I can take it back OD Green w/ the black stars on the doors and I'd like to put the original unit numbers back on the bumper.
