Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
current link to the Stovebolt thread : Things you found in your Stovebolt when you bought it ?
The URL changed a bit after some software upgrades... and my above post is too old to edit. That SB thread was started, after I read Piper71c10's first post in this thread, here. It now has 293 replies... some of which are pretty strange. So, if you have a rainy day at the computer... it is amusing reading. -W |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
I found a roach clip with 1/2 a doob, The funny thing is i bought it off of my boss. I gave it back to him , and he is all " what the hell???" I tell him hey boss I think this is yours I found it in the truck.
He just laughed. |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
I was cutting a section of cab corner to weld a rust spot, and smelled someone smoking a joint. Turns out I was burning what was left of a bag stashed in the corner. I didn't see it when I cleaned the truck out. It was stuck between all the dirt and rust. To bad it was some nasty home grown.

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
When I tore the rubber matting out of my 79 I found 4 extra transfer case trim bolts in there. I guess they dropped them and got 4 more instead. That was about it.

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
I found half an arrowhead, a little pocket knife, a million toothpicks, two nos fan belts stuck behind the springs of the seat, and a million camel cigerette proof of purchases. I haven't dug under the dash or behind the gas tank yet so more treasure may be in store for me.

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
I found a receipt for the upholstery that totaled 1/2 what I paid for the truck.
I felt even better about the deal I got after finding that. The best thing I found in the cab though: no rust. |

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
Neat thread,
When I pulled the seat and gas tank from the '62 GMC cab I'm working on now, I found the title to a '63 Ford Galaxy bought by the fellow who bought this pu new. I gave it back to him. He took it home and framed it. Said it was the first new CAR he and his wife he lost to cancer ever bought. He's now 81 yrs. old. Cayoterun |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
After owning a 72 chevelle for a little over a year, i was cleaning out the trunk and tucked way high on the drivers rear quarter was a brown paper bag- upon opening it there were at least 20 or so latin porn dvds- guess the "old lady's" nephew that i bought it from had a couple things going on there..... weird---

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
I pulled the seat out of my 1960 chevy truck over the weekend as the wife is going to be redoing it. I set it down in the garage and flipped it over and saw a wallet stuck up under the edge of the seat cover, it had 2 crisp hundreds and the original pink slip which the PO could never find LOL.
I am happy as a clam :) |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
Havn't torn mine fully apart yet, but so far i found; a dash plaque from the hunnert car pileup, a couple of biz cards, and an NOS reverse lense. Upon popping some crap bondo off of my fender, I found about a pint of sand that spilled out.

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
In the glovebox of my 66, I found a set of 8 Champion spark plugs, pen, flashlight, 5 cassette tapes one was lynryd skyryd, a fel-pro exhaust manifold gasket set, a bunch of sunflower seeds, some chinese symbol air fresheners, a set of chrome half-moon pieces that go on the headlights:metal:, and roughly 10 new fuses and 1 original one.
Pretty general things I guess. It could sure use those plugs and gaskets. |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
Makes you wonder - why don't people go through and clean out personal items before they sell a car or truck? Maybe not behind the gas tank, but at least the floor and glove box.

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
under the seat i found rubber door seals, cbs whips (didnt have a cb or even a radio at the time so ???), LOTS of dirt, sand and grime, few mystery nuts floating around and some change.
Center console found an adjustable wrench, some reciepts, other papers more change, his old registration, some loose nuts, and a half tube of locktite (SCORE haha best i got) in the ashtray i found 5 valve stem caps, there wasnt one on any of the tires though?? under dash i found a nasty birds nest of wires...underneath i found a leaky rear main seal that had been goobered with some sort of gasket goo as well as the oilpan as a temporary fix, I saw it before buying on the pan, but it wasnt leaking at the time and didnt see it around the rear main :waah: :m6: :banghead: still worth every dam dime tho. and the real "reward of owning an old truck" IMO is turning heads:metal: |
Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..

Re: The Rewards of Owning an Old Truck..
Let's see can't remember finding anything in my Blazer,or my Suburban,I found a small chain in the rear corner of the 64 I just got,I guess I scored when i had the 41-1/2 ton,up under the seat was originally where the gas tank was but it had been moved to outside of frame,so under the seat was plenty of room for stuff,I found old screw drivers,Big old wrenches,an original Jack, tire Iron, engine hand crank,Brand new clutch and throw-out bearing with receipt from 1955,I think it was less the $20.00 bucks.and in the glove box there was an old plastic ice-scraper from a chevrolet dealership, and the last 20-30 yrs of the little pink Inspection papers in there..Oh and when I pulled the old metal bed off laying between the gas tank and frame were two paper oil cans with oil still in them Wolfes'head brand, thought that was kinda neat....I was hoping to find some money in it but the gentlemen that owned it had hid lots of money in his garage....
