Where that lower piece would normally set against the cab, is it spot welded on, or was there some sort of adhesive to keep it from vibrating? Or does it come right off when the cut is made?

Yes its spot welded along the bottom edge. This cab is a '72 cab and the spot welds were not quite random but they were not all lined up. I wanted to save that piece but the spot welds didn't allow a nice straight cut along the bottom. Maybe this cab was made on friday about quitting time.

I don't think I took any pics when the seat was in it. Its back out now. If I can find some help, I'll put it back in and take a pic.

Interesting idea, but what does this do to the structural integrity of the back of the cab?

It most likely won't be as strong but to what degree would require some testing. I could see the back wall buckling easier in a major crash but if the hit is that hard you're likely to be hurt from other impact points first.
