Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
Is this gonna be all out restoration or is thebody mounted for good on the frame the way it is??

Not a restoration , not even close. It will be over built, not stock, just a classic 1st gen body...from there it's all fair game. |

"Turns out I'll be needing a trans cover, got one of those for me?"
I've got a spare, high hump right? One with the transfer case hole and one without. Pm if interested. Looks to be a great start. |

So this a.m. while the comp is warming up, I look over my desktop background (O'Yeah, it's there) and I start adding up whats sitting there right now dollar wise...dayum it adds up fast. |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
Talk to mgross about a frame coating. There`s a great product out of NJ.What trans will you use?Do you have that, yet? My shortbed will be along the same lines.Maybe they can cruise together sometime.Prolly won`t have mine done until after about four more of your projects are done..

700r and a 241 T-case. (forgot those in my original post didn't I?) The only parts left to aquire are the seats and cage tubing. Then it's finding the time to assemble it all. |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
That was one day's work? Dayum, that goes quick when it's all rust-free!

I bought a set of 4 for $200 off of ebay and they sell singles quite a bit, too. I am using mine on my 72 2wd Blazer project with the 3/4 ton suspension I put under it!! I think they kinda look cool, again mine will be used on a 2wd with a 255/50 r 17 tire as the 2wd is lowered 4"/6". Very sweet, BTW I have a really nice orange Blazer gate, with the OE paint and all?? |

Fairly basic for the most part, serp belt and maybe some alloy covers, that's it though. |

So the motor is ready as is? That's cool. Will you be cleaning it up and slapping some paint on it?

Did place my order for the shackle flip, engine cross member and disc conversion last night though. Have another rolling chassis available now too, this will allow me to work on the frame I'll be using AND have the body portable. Found an "oops" while looking over the tub the other day...:o Dispite how careful we were when we laid the tub back onto the chassis, we missed one body bolt and being it didn't make the hole, it raised up the bed floor some. Not a huge ordeal but still... |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
i LOVE reading this thread!! vt, you make it sound so easy. ;)
i know there's more to it than what i see, but you make it sound effortless - like you were looking for something insignificant in the garage (hmmm... where'd i put that tape measure) and "happened" to find a crate motor, tpi, and some 1 ton axles... that's freakin awesome! looking forward to hearing more progress. :mm: bummer about the oops... |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
A piece of 4x4 scrap and some persuasion will be plenty good to take care of the floor. Lookin good.

2x4's fit about right between the bed ribs. ;) Soon I'll use the wrecker to transfer the body over to the other rolling chassis that just became available and start working on the frame that it's sitting on now. |

I'm on the edge of my seat...lets ROCK!!

Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
Kurt- I don't know if your putting big rubber on there or not; but I've got three brand new Goodyear H2 tires out here (never mounted)....let me go check the size

Zero Progress - Short Update:
Thought I'd let everybody know what's been going on up here, pretty much everything EXCEPT blazer building. :whine:
The biggest item (time and money sucker-upper) is our current house renovation: After 15 years in this house it was time to do the kitchen over 'again'. *Knocking out two walls, 1 interior and 1 exterior and adding 2 exterior walls and 1 more interior wall. *Enclosing a porch and changing the entrance to the house to provide for a mud room. This made for huge amounts of rip-n-tear, along with the necessity for a 14ft steel 'I' beam to create the clear span needed for the new space. PART DUEX: All at the same time, I'm having a 25'x8' retaining wall built/poured to repair/replace a previous redneck 2x2x4 concrete block wall installation that had no prevision for drainage and as a result undermined my foundation. :censored: The good part though is that along with the retaining wall they'll also be pouring a parallel 25' footer wall. Yeah, for the new garage!! :metal: So that's the whole story behind the zero blazer progress...stay tuned. |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
Welcome to my world.
Sounds like some cool mods to the house. And congrats on the new man space! :metal: |
Re: Building a Blazer - vtblazer's Way
That's an acceptable delay...
|

Now remember, I've got the concrete pad already there and the retaining wall will act as one of the walls and I'm paying for the roof separately. Walked straight into my office and called another contractor... |
