Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
well today is the first post in a long time, I've got little accomplished since winter has hit. I got the motor pulled out today, gonna put a 350 v8 in, with an automatic transmission.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Good to see you back on here. Do you need an auto crossmember?
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
No, I think I actually have one somewhere, hey but thanks anyways. I went and got the motor and tranny and all the other misc. parts this evening.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
well got the motor pulled out, then went the other night and got the 350 and tranny. today was the first day I was able to take pics because of the snow yesterday. The carb is a new quadrajet 4 barrel. the motor was also just rebuilt.

Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
This is the view from my garage, it has natural air conditioning, and no heat haha. Nothing like pulling out a motor in 26 degree weather.

Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Thats a nice looking motor.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Hey thanks, yeah I just couldn't pass this deal up, got all of it for $300. Thats for the motor, tranny, torque converter. and every bit of the exhaust. lol notice the home made air cleaner which could have actual ram air.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Got the frame coated today, while the motor is out. Gonna try to drop the 350 in Wensday evening. Now I just got to buy me a shifter, and to get stuff to finish the exhaust.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
your truck is really coming along, nothing better than four eyes, and it seems once you stat, you just never know where to finish, oh well, great deal on the engine btw. gonna keep watching, and btw, we were sandblasting the 58 cab 4 days ago and it was -44 degrees with the windchill, talk about air conditioning
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild

Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
What knida lights are you going with on the back ?
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
I'm not quite sure, but I was thinking maybe just one on each side, the ones that have the taillight and backup light together . . . maybe
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Yay I get to do something fun tomorrow, my heater core started leaking so I'm going to swap it out. Got a new one last night for 32$, originally it was 59$, but I guess it pays to have connections at your local auto parts stores haha.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Well heres an update, i painted the motor, and most of everything aroung it. Pulled my steering column, changed my heater core, rebuilt my gauges. heres a few pics. more to come in the next few days when i put the auto column back in tomorrow.

Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
looks good Mitch. You should be driving that thing regularly soon right?
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
Looking real good. Do us a favor though and ditch the fire starter air filter as soon as you can. You don't need to loose your truck after all your hard work because of a fire.
|
Re: 1970 GMC Stepside Redbuild
whats wrong with that air cleaner. i have been running one like that for everyday for a little over a year
