Hadn't really decided on what to do with them yet. Paint them or add some headers. Still thinking about it..

Man, I love what you did with engine. It looks awesome. Did you weld all of the morror holes up? It looks like you are doing a great job.

4dranch 09-30-2008 02:54 PM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Yep welded up the larger holes and then broke out the grinder. then a little bondo.
I'm not much of a body man, but it's my work and it feels good doing it. Plus saving some cash on the little things. I was told a long time ago that the difference between a good welder and a bad welder is a good welder always carries a grinder and some spray paint with him..

The best part of working on old stuff is that if it isnt right weld it back on and start over ---------------your paint scheme is looking very classy!!!!!

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

What kind of paint did you use on the motor and valve covers?

Man that white pops nicely. Wow

Yeah you kinda inspired me to try something different under the hood too. Of course I'm not ready, but man I'm digging that white. Until I dump oil everywhere. hahaha

SEM trim black is what alot of folks are using as well....I plan to body work and repaint mine some day too.

Currently I'm rock'n the OSH Primer Black !!:metal::lol:

4dranch 10-01-2008 10:09 AM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

OSH is a brand name? I did find and buy some flat black manifold paint last night. will work on getting them smoothed up and painted. Where's the best place to get the flat black paint at for the body?
and best for the lowest $$$$.
Thanks, David

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Epoxy primer works good too thats what i have , but the more u wipe it and wash it you will get shiny spots, we used dupont hot rod black on our 49 shop truck but was spendy stuff

4dranch 10-01-2008 12:14 PM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

This may sound a little stupid but is there a semi shiney flat back??

scot 6 feet eleven 10-01-2008 12:20 PM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

I think guys add a little clear in the final coat of flat balck and that keeps it from fading, but keep in mind i know enough about body work to be dangerous

GMC65Guy 10-01-2008 04:08 PM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

The key is to use reg. black and a flat clear to give it that flat black look with good protection

4dranch 10-02-2008 07:01 AM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Thanks 6'11" and 65GUY,
I didn't even know there was such a thing as flat clear. learn something new every day.

Finally got the radiator hoses in. And got everything back together.
Now back to filling in some holes and some body work. I have some friends coming over this week and we may get her lowered a little. Check out the guard cat in the last picture.

This past weekend I wanted to try my luck at lowering the truck a little. I hope I am not the only one this happens to, but as soon as I start on something I find something else that needs fixin. I started on the rear leaf springs and noticed that the "U" bolts were all but wore through. I looked at all the local parts stores and no one carried the size I needed. But I did find some supper nice folks at a local company, Custom Springs who made me some new ones and only charge 9 bucks a peice. link to there web site http://www.custom-springs.com/

Took these pictures last night when I finished with the front. Pictures are with cell phone my camera batteries were dead. It's lowered old school, short on $$$$ at the moment. but turned out cool,, If I do say so myself.:metal: I went down about 3-4 inches in the front and back. Will get some better pictures posted soon.

Hey, how did the fire wall at the shop turn out? you guys finished the work yet?

ChiefRocka 10-22-2008 09:19 AM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Not yet man...still waiting on more permits and crap from the city. We did however remove the existing wall, and the miles of conduit already.

Wish we could leave it like that, so much more room it's unreal.

But, a wall must go back up.

4dranch 10-22-2008 09:28 AM

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Good luck with the permits.

Re: 4D'S "63" GMC Build

Looks great. How did you lower it? Cut coils in front? Then what in rear? Remove a leave??
