Re: My '66 build thread
Quality work, you should be proud.
Can't wait to see the body go on! |
Re: My '66 build thread
You MUST demand that the body shop take pics of the extended cab process. I have an idea but I'd love to see it.

Re: My '66 build thread
Hey thanks guys, I got the bed off the 66 finally and have it setting on the 86. I'm debating whether to get new bedsides or work these into shape... but we are going with a new tailgate so if anybody is looking for one..... make an offer. here are a few pics...

Re: My '66 build thread
Ya, we are going to put the wood floor in, new tailgate, and maybe some new sides and leave it as a "floating" piece to the puzzle until we see how the other things fit.

Re: My '66 build thread
Ok I lied. Sorry guys, school has been keeping me really busy. I've made a little progress and I'll try to go into detail this weekend but here is a pic of how she sits now. We are in the process of mounting the body and figuring out the height we want the cab. Enjoy :)

Re: My '66 build thread
Hey guys, sorry it has been so long!! School and homework have been my main priority lately. But we have managed to accomplish a few things on the truck lately...
In the search for a new tailgate and bed sides we were led to Mar-k bed products based right here in Oklahoma City. (Awesome people to work with) After talking with the owner Mark, we found out that he had a slightly damaged, blank tailgate that was perfect for us. We looked through the styles of embossing that they did and were immediately attracted to the older "GMC" style. So they embossed it for us and a week or so later we picked it up http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409003.jpg We had been slowly pulling parts off the truck and bringing them back to our house, but after what seemed like a lifetime of begging, my dad finally cracked and agreed to bring what was left of the truck back home. :) http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/90109018.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/90109019.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409039.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/IMG_0112.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409005.jpg |
Re: My '66 build thread
I immediately started stripping her down to pull the cab off... And of course I had to throw a seat in there and see how it would feel... I let dad pose for this one... :D
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409028.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409033.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409046.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409080.jpg I couldn’t stand waiting to put the cab over so I did what I could to pass the time.. At this point days seemed like years.. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../100409088.jpg Then a couple days ago I got everything ready to put the cab over and convinced my dad to help me do it and now this is how she sits! http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/IMG_0154.jpg |

The build is looking awesome. What did you and your father decide on the hood, grille & tailgate? If you want to try to work something out, let me know. Very impressive, so far! |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Thanks for all the feedback guys! Money has been tight for me i just picked up another job so hopefully the truck will keep coming along!!Lately we have been able to work on the truck quite a bit and accomplish some of the things we have wanted to do for awhile.
First of all we started working on an anti-wrap bar. We decided to call up Don at Sniperfab to work out a couple pieces for us. And as with any prototype parts, the first batch (shown here) was a little off. The shackles and rear ring were perfect but the other parts needed a few changes. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...ner/103109.jpg After some painting and welding we ended up with these. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110109016.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110509011.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110709001.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110509012.jpg Here is the back ring http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110109004.jpg And after hours of Cutting fitting and grinding we finally got the bar made. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809020.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809026.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809028.jpg |

Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
Here are the new front shackles installed
We also torched the 86 body mounts to make room for some new ones soon http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110109024.jpg And thanks to craigslist we picked up a few 24 AN hose/fitting pieces that we wanted to make work for the radiator, my Dad welded a fitting to the thermostat housing and we will do the same on a radiator later. http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110509002.jpg My dad managed to find a 61 gmc 4x4 that had been hit in the back but all the 4x4 stuff was in good condition so we ended up buying it and pulled the hood, grille, and grill support wings. All of which is in great condition http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/IMG_0321.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110709038.jpg I just had to hook the lights up to a battery, all 4 work...even the blinkers :D http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110709044.jpg The wings turned out to be in better shape than the ones we had, so with nothing to lose we added a few holes to the old ones. :smokin: http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809034.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809036.jpg http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809039.jpg We also popped a hole in the hood latch http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/k.../110809044.jpg |
Re: Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
We also picked up a Warn 12000 winch.. We are currently building a little mount for it. Those updates in the next few days.
