i want more flex than him but same set up, but better bracing of the shock mount looks a little small, maybe its just the pic. I may also cut the top off but i have been think of what will be on me.

Re: Got a new truck

in total i have spend 960 for this truck. And yes everyone i know thinks its trash but a few people. i feel why get something nice just to mess up, sure it was a lot for what it was but i think its worth the experince. If i got something nicer i wouldn't be able to learn some of the stuff, and wouldn't apperciate as much, because i didnt know what when into building it.

And yes i learned well sort of i didn't hit the bog i went on a few trails crack the case amd some other stuff but i fixed most of it still need the d-line and new perchs but thats what i'm doing monday. Then next weekend since i don't think this will be done, going to help pick up some trash in hollister then spend the rest of the day wheeling. My dads barrowing his boss's trailer just in case.

Re: Got a new truck

wait my grandma gave me the 60 back so i spend 900, i help at my uncles shop and i have a tab that shows everything i bought and they pay for the small stuff, i pay for tires, wheels, the more costly stuff. I get the stuff for their prices, plus tax. But in total 960 has been spent on it.

yah. i took some hubs off another axle i had laying around and they bolted right up.

cool man. yeah i will never go as "extreame" as you are with the link setup and all. I am just happy with my 1/2 and showing up the jeep guys. Here is a pic of what that truck started as....
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...0/olyeller.jpg

Not what i would have done but hey to each there own. your truck should make for quite the capible rig when complete.

Re: Got a new truck

nice truck i see many people think that i should do as much to it but i figure do everything then change what i don't like. the axles will be last i don't plan on running them yet. I priced the leaf springs and found they're about 200+ea for the proper leafs for my trucks thats wholesale price. Fox airshocks will end up being 230ea if i don't get them for wholesale. And the labor for the linking and cage will be free. The i would like to show up jeeps.

I'm only linking the rear and the front will come later if it gets done. The 44s if i get them i'm running in the muddy times only because the tag that comes with them.

And i'm going to tow no matter what so i think i might just make it as best as possibe with the lease money as possible. If i get the leafs then i find i don't flex i would like then im out of the springs cost

Re: Got a new truck

well i finally got everything for the clutch made, i only need to put a rod in then, i will start on getting the wires hooked up and then it should start.

onlyifihadachevy 07-28-2009 08:54 PM

Re: Got a new truck

i got the clutch working then i started putting wires on then need the radiator hoses and they didn't get ordered, so thurs im getting the brakelight switch, hoses, and hopefully gtting it started friday.

I went offroading in my other truck and liked the power low end, but didn't like the carb when on a steeper hill/trail it would die then i would try it again a few times then if it stalled i would just hammer down and make it look easy.

I put a factory cluster in it, so it looks good, i will get a pic on thurs.

Re: Got a new truck

I worked on it a little and i only have a week till summers over so next week i'm building the cage and 4 link hopefully, but i worked on it a little didn't get much done was waiting on radiator hoses, but bolted up the starter.

just need to wire it and the batt wires, put the spark plug wires on, alt, and the oil pressure line to the back of the block. STart it nd cut the back of the frame off and cage it.

Re: Got a new truck

Hey man, sounds like your really getting serious with this thing, I wanted to ask you about your link set up.. What type of links are you going with.. Have you done your research about links? Will you watch this video? http://www.spike.com/full-episode/su...101-rock/30579
Now you should understand this question. Whats your COG? Are you going to go 3 link with panhard up front? Did you get your front/rear and total weight yet? I have spent a lot of time under my truck measuring, remeasuring and then measuring again.. Im hoping you are putting enough thought into it, and putting it down on paper (or here) really helps.. There should be a considerable amount of math involved with linking your rig. Ide be happy to help if you need any.

onlyifihadachevy 07-31-2009 01:54 PM

Re: Got a new truck

i have thought about it i'm going to run the leafs up front and a 4link in the rear for now. I'm back halfing it and building the cage into a mini bed for a cooler for some soda water, tools and recovery gear, maybe a fuel cell in the future. BUt its going to be the 45 degree set up so no track bar, and coilovers buecause my uncle doesn't think a 1000pds weight max load will be enough if im pulling and jumping. THe 4link should work great same idea as airbaged trucks just with coil overs.

WIll i watch the video yup, tonight, my cog will be lower than my white truck, if not the same, the weight i will not know because of the back being cut off and rebuild the front i will 4link in the future my uncle wants to do it.

What truck were you thinking about linking.

Re: Got a new truck

i would do the 76. it sounds like a good platform to start with seeing as the axles are already beefy.

i push the truck into the shop and worked on it for a little while didn't look like much but i'm almost ready to start it, the wire to the coil and start and thats it. I pulled t out with my other truck and had to push it a little with it but its back in its place, Tomarrow i will start the cutting and caging.

Re: Got a new truck

THE bed off and learned to use a torch, i knew before but i was taught more about it, so i can cut anything, had to cut some bolts out. I went and got a new starter didn't fit, so put the old one back in. Hooked up the wires and tried to start it, it was cranking and fired and backfired.

CHaNged the timing and some stuff don't know exactly, then It wasn't getting any fuel so i poured 5 gallons in the tank cranked it fired and ran fine for about a minute then i turned it off, because open headers was loud.
I wil get pics today.

nice truck

onlyifihadachevy 08-09-2009 12:56 AM

Re: Got a new truck

thanks, and I was wondering what color i should paint it, flat black, flat white its getting a little old for me but still cool, try to paint gloss balck with spray paint or get an air compressor and paint it nice with clear to I buff it and then go destroy the paint in the rocks and mud? Some ideas would help it would needs to be cheap and look fairly good.

Re: Got a new truck

I went to the junkyard looking for a d60 and i got the right trottle cable from a really old like 30's 40's truck and got the vaccaum line for the power brakes from a van. But i found a few 67-72 chevy/gmcs some had pretty good metal, like the one in the pictures.

Re: Got a new truck

And i think my dad and I are going to try and sell the ford my dads boss gave him for enough for some cheap rockwells, its a 85 ford with a 302 or 292 small block v8 halfton 4x4, its reg as a diesel so no smog. hopefully, it wil fletch enough but I'm waiting till tuesday to order a bender and then it should be i don't know how long before it comes then the building begins.

Re: Got a new truck

well rattle can is cheap and if done right, can look good also.

a buddy of mine is building a trazer, and he did a two tone look using a dark blue and flat black which turned out nice. total cost was somewhere round 20-30 bucks i think.

its hard to do flat black from a can. lines show up easy. so gloss black might me easier.

Hoods69BadBowTie 08-10-2009 05:09 PM

Re: Got a new truck

Damn nice job its looking good so far. Keep up the good work on it :D

onlyifihadachevy 08-10-2009 05:39 PM

Re: Got a new truck

the flat black only shows lines with the base is a light color but the flat black i would to 2-3 layers, and i was thinking about buying a cheap spray gun and learning to paint on my 2 trucks.

Re: Got a new truck

what about a gray primer?

onlyifihadachevy 08-10-2009 06:30 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I think that would look good like yours.

Eturnit3 08-10-2009 06:49 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I am going a dark, flat OD green!! Choose what you like, I really liked how tough the color makes any rig look. But if you like blue and pink camo... Go for it man. Make it yours!! The most forgiving color to hide scratches/nicks/blemishes seemed to be white oddly enough. So if you decide you want glossy paint (although I admire your taste in flat colors) go White!! it hides **** really well. My .02, cant wait to see the progress pics.

Also, I have noticed a lot of guys going with d70's lately due to the ultra heavy duty'ness of it.. You can find em a lot easier too it seems. But its harder to find info on em and isnt so easy as a 60 to build or have built. Just some food for thought..

70 beast 08-10-2009 10:31 PM

Re: Got a new truck

i wanted to do an army theme green paint job on my jimmy, but my gal and i chose the flat black, and burgundy.

eventually i wanna do a dark blue primer.

Re: Got a new truck

i HAVE BEEN THINKING, my bad caps was on, but on paint i'm still debating and i started drawing a picture of my truck, I will post it later and i think i will do the set up just like the pic but I/m going to copy it of designing the backhalf.

onlyifihadachevy 08-15-2009 09:22 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I forgot to take the pict but we ordered the bender and notcher, so when they come in then progress until then just working on little things was going to put an exhast tube on the passager side, just to get past the starter up it has been delayed.

I decided to clean my fish tank its hot and smells pretty bad, I need to buy a ton of feeder fish to breed to because the pellets made the tank look dirty and smell, pretty bad heres some pics.

THe small one
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...c924d996fb.jpg

The other big one, the fishs, in it are 2 piranhas, there pretty shy when we walk by, and a pacu, only feed them gold fish and its really clean only has a underground filter, hasn't been cleaned in twice the time as my biggest one, about 5-6months.
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...d5a75831a8.jpg

MY biggest only 5gal bigger but has 3 oscars, a red snook, 2 sucker fish. It has a external filter, a underground with all four tubes running with 2 125 gallon pumps on it and looks like this in 2months.
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...b85859b91a.jpg

Progress pic on it in about an hour to clean it, and another 2 hours to fill and reclean it needed.

onlyifihadachevy 08-15-2009 09:23 PM

Re: Got a new truck

The second one doesn't looks just as clean as the first one but the backgroundis making it look bad.

onlyifihadachevy 08-15-2009 10:25 PM

Re: Got a new truck

I cleaned the tank and plug all the air again then the stuff in the underground blew out so it got a little cleaner, and i suck out of all the ports for the underground i was using, so tomarrow i will clean it some more.
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...26a29c297b.jpg

The picture the upper part so the back half is not going that way just as looking for ideas, it was a quick one and the front part is the one that I'm taking my time on.

Re: Got a new truck

I finally started the truck let it idle went back and forth to check the brakes and it idled great, the vacuum hose from the carb to the master was the problem, so the brakes work and it runs fine. Waiting till friday then the bender should get here.

Re: Got a new truck

I got a the tubing bender and notcher, just have to pick it up and A friend is ordering the steel 2marrow. We're hoping it's getting here friday but most likey it will get there on monday. We are ordering 1.75x.125 dom for about 3.05 per foot for 200ft.
