I still need to finish the fuel system, but the Suburban has been occupying most of my time. Can you describe the normal operation of the blow off valve. As it stands, as soon as I manually move the throttle it starts opening up and releasing air from the supercharger. When does this stop?

Cant you adjust the valve? Set it for the PSI you want?

Good question. The instructions said it was preset at the factory and not to adjust it. Makes you wonder why they put an adjustment screw on it....

Suburban looks nice. I will have to check out the build thread.

You need to build boost or pressure in the intake in order for the valve to stay closed. The hose that comes from the intake to the BOV senses pressure or vacuum. Under boost it will close the valve and keep it closed. If there is vacuum in the intake it will open the valve. It appears that the BOV is doing what it is supposed to do. You don't want pressure when you are manually blipping the throttle.
Before you make any adjustments drive the truck and see if how it acts.

I know, I know....I'm still babying it. I still need to update the fuel pump and pressure regulator before I get to crazy with it....:).

Roger that. It's been nasty weather her for the last couple of weeks so I really haven't gotten to drive it. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice, I'll try to take it out then. Also, what are your thoughts on a PCV setup?

Re: Need some engine advice and suggestions...

Before I purchase a wideband setup, I need to upgrade the fuel system from the Holley black pump/Holley non bypass, non boost referenced FPR (anyone need to buy a pump and FPR, :D) to some Aeromotive stuff. Here's what I'm planning for the fuel system:

A11101 - Fuel pump
A13301 - Boost reference fuel pressure regulator with return
A12301 - 10 micron fuel filter
A12304 - 100 micron fuel filter

The only thing I'm not sure of is the fuel pressure regulator. There seems to be a lot of choices. The 13301 is adjustable from 3-20psi and has a spring that can be changed to make it adjustable from 20 to 65psi if I ever switch to fuel injection. Thoughts?

Re: Need some engine advice and suggestions...

That fuel pump P/N doesn't show up, do you mean 11101?

Everything else looks good. I would recommend SS covered teflon hose. I had a problem with the SS rubber hoses pushing/outleaking fumes/vapor and my garage stunk from fuel.

What size fitting do you have out of the tank? Do you have a return fitting?

P/N corrected, :). I have 10AN fittings in all ports. I was going to plumb the return line to my fuel filler neck. Does the teflon hose bend very easily?

No, the teflon line has a large bend radius.

Thanks guys. Well I pulled the trigger on the fuel system and should have that taken care of in the next week. I have the following things that need to be connected to receive vaccuum/boost signal. My question is where exactly to pull it from, above (A) the butterflys or below (B)?

PCV - B
transmission - A (ported?)
Blowoff valve - B?
MSD BTM - B?
Boost/Vacuum gauge - A
FPR signal - A (according to Aeromotive tech)

Thoughts or suggestions?

everything else looks good.

I apologize for being slow with my updates, but I have made progress!! :metal:

The new fuel system is installed, 10AN supply/8AN return. I cleaned up the engine compartment, including a new radiator and fan setup (with custom radiator holder). I also had a new tank built with a sump and the proper fuel fittings. Everything seems to be working fairly well, although I'm still trying to get the carb, FPR and BOV dialed in. It's running to rich. I've lowered the pressure on the regulator to 5-5.5 psi, but I think the problem is with the BOV not opening enough at low idle. Any suggestions? I know I need a wideband to help with the tuning, but I want to replace the headers first before installing one. Here's some pictures to catch me/you up, :).

Where do you have the reference line for the BOV running to?

Is the pump sitting higher then the tank?

Looking good.

It's connected to the back of the carb, same place as the tranny modulator valve. Pump is below the tank. I think my problems is the adjustment on the BOV. Any ideas where to start?

Tell me about those stainless headers. What brand? Do they hang below the frame?

Sounds good and I like the SS headers. I like the muffled exhaust better, just sounds cleaner.

Two things I noticed, your track bar is way off, should be parallel with the ground at ride height. Is your driveshaft too short? I see a lot of the slip yoke in the one picture.

The 50 series flowmasters quieted everything down but it still has a good rumble. The cut outs are just to mess with 5.0's and rice burners, :D.

I had to move the mounting point down on the track bar (more pics in my build thread) because it was interferring with the aluminum rearend cover. It seems to work well at this location. I'm replacing the 4" drop springs with 6" drop springs so that should help level it out some.

As far as the driveshaft, it has approximately 2" that go into the transmission, I assume that is enough? I've got a couple more things that I'm going to do to the suspension that could affect that measurement, when I'm done with that I'll verify that everything is still good.

Wild83C10 05-01-2011 09:44 PM

Re: Need some engine advice and suggestions...

You should have about an inch left out of the trans, so that could be around 3" in the transmission.

Rob,
Did you ever do methanol injection? I believe Steve at NewEra Racing engines does this in lieu of an intercooler to reduce detonation. And in turn, run more boost to make huge power. Sorry if it is in the thread somewhere and I missed it, kinda just skimmed through, instead of reading.

How do you like the electric cutouts? Any issues with them? What brand did you go with? I ask all of these questions because I plan on doing the exact same exhaust setup as you except I will probably go just a little quieter on the mufflers.

Thanks.
