Thanks Guys.

My plan is to have the brake lines all ran this week and the system ready to bleed. I need a few line clamps and the boot to the back of the master cylinder.

I decided to paint the intake because I did not want to take the motor apart since it was running OK when it was pulled out.

Make sure you understand the marks on the bender. They are helpful in knowing which dimension and if it is to the left or right.

Also, do some test pieces before doing your final ones.

That's my problem I didn't know I could bend either way. :lol: Seriously, I'm still learning. I need to watch someone do it to learn. I've done a couple of lines and they turned out good then I start getting my lefts and rights mixed up.

made some progress last night. I got all the hard lines for the brakes finished up. I got my new front calipers and those should get painted tonight.

I ordered up my line clamps this morning, should be here in a few days. Once I get those that should finish up my brakes.

I do have one issue that is keeping me from finishing the brakes, I need the rubber boot that goes on the back of the MC around the pushrod. I can get it with a rebuild kit, but I do not need the rest of the parts. The kit is about $25 at Autozone. Does anyone know where I can get just the boot. I am going to email Jeff at CPP since he has been on here and offered up his help...

Just got off the Phone with Jeff at CPP. He is a real cool guy. He hooked me up with the dust boot I needed!!:metal: I also ordred the axle perches for the rear end. I think that I am going to change my set up some and I do not like the ones that I made the last time. These will look much better.

ALAN: Sent you a PM.

I painted my front calipers last night and the rear rotors. I to get the rear calipers apart today so that I can clean them and paint, before putting in the rebuild kits.

Well, I found out the rear end I have is NOT out of a Lincoln Versailes. It is out of a Lincoln Mark V. I got the calipers all apart and the pistons are pitted around where the dust boot seal touches them when full retracted. I pulled out the seal kit that I purchased and the dust seal in the kit is MUCH smaller than the one that came off the caliper. SO, I did some more research on the parts, the Versailes rear discs are 10.675" in diameter. The ones I have are 11.5" in diameter. Looking at the specs for the 1977 Mark V, those have the 11.5" brakes with larger calipers.

Rock Auto has the calipers that I need for $93.75 shipped to may door for the pair. I can get O'Reilly to order online for $102.82 total, I am going to see if they will match Rock Auto's price before I do anything...

I will try to get some pics of the calipers and pistons for you guys...I know how we like pictures...

By the way, it has been SNOWING here since about 7:30 this morning. We are to get about 2"-4" by in the morning...

We got 12" of snow in a 24hr period here in DFW which was a record.

Yea, saw that on the news. We ended up with 7" at my house. This is the first time that the kids had seen that much. They were out of school and we decided to shutdown the plant were I work since we did not have power and most of the schools were out.

The kids had snowball fights and built some snowmen. Our dog just loved being out in it too. My wife tooks some pictures, so I will see if I can get a few up.

Here are a couple of pictures of the pistons from the rear calipers. The first one is as it came out of the caliper after I wiped off the oil and brake fluid (I used a porta-power to pop them out, compressed air alone would not even budge them). The second one is after polishing it with 1200 grit paper, the black ring is pitted real bad...

I found the calipers on Rock Auto. They had a limited stock of Kelsey-Hayes branded reman calipers for less then $40 each. I think that I got the last one for the right side. The A1 Cardone brand ones where about $43 each on the same site. I got both sides with shipping for about $82.

Here is what I got done tonight. The valve covers that I got hit the intake runners. They had some relief for them, but not enough, the runners held them up about 1/8" above the rail of the head.

I marked the area that hit the runners with a blue Sharpie.

I used my offset aviation snips (right cut) to cut up close to the flat where the gasket sits.

Now I have plenty of clearance and did not mess up the chrome plating.

That's all for today. Next on my list is to get the pulleys and water pump and altenator brackets, and fuel pump to finish up the motor. A friend at work is rebuilding my swap meet carb for me now, so when that is done I can do the fuel line from the pump to the carb.

It is a Holley Strip Dominator. The intake runner is about 3/16" (I'm guessing) above the valve cover rail on the head.

Had to work on my DD last night. Had to replace the battery, the cold weather killed it. It was nearly 5 years old, the good thing is that it had a 9 year warranty and that knocked off $32 from the price of the new one.

Once that was fixed I did get the water pump bolted on the engine. And my order from CPP came in and all the parts where there! Thanks Jeff!

Got a little work done last night. I put the boot on the MC and remounted it to the firewall. I will bench bleed the MC while it is mounted to the firewall. I also got more parts mocked up on the motor for a picture.

Also, I got my rear calipers in from Rock Auto. They are plated with a gold (yellow zinc) color. I hate to paint them, but the fronts are painted black...

My plans for this weekend are up in the air, but I hope to get the truck rolled outside to degrease and wash the frame and underside of the cab. If I can, I am also going to power wash the inside of the cab, mostly the floor and inside the doors. Hope the rain holds off...

My sister had her twin boys this week, so we are headed over to see her and the new boys. There is also a car show this weekend in the same town, might try to squeeze that in too.

Went to Tyler on Saturday to see my new nephews (twins) and my sister and her husband. I forgot how small new borns are...

Sunday it was supposed to rain but is did not and it was warm, so I rolled the truck outside got some cleaning done yesterday. I used an industrial degreaser and borrowed a neighbor's pressure washer to clean the frame and under the cab. The under cab area was nasty...

The inside of the cab had a funky smell from the critters and nasty carpet that I removed. So, I soaked the floor area with the degreaser and pressure washed it to. It helped knock off some of the loose rust too! I got it rolled back in the garage by the end of the day.

The photo's are after I was done and it had mostly dried out and was getting ready to roll it back inside.

After I got it back inside, I decided to do a little work on it. I need to remove the old bump stop brackets off of the rear so that I can get a c-notch in there sometime.

I am also, going to remove the rear crossmember and fab up on that mounts a little further back. I want to make a little more room for a gas tank. At some point I am going to change the panhard bar and mounts, so that will mean the orginal mount and crossmemeber are coming out also.

All I got done was the rivets are center punched and started drilling them out. The battery died on my cordless, so I quit for the night.

Tonight, I have to rearrange the garage so that I can get my wife's car in there too. They say it is going to snow again in the next day or so...

Paint those calipers black to match the fronts since you did good on them.

ECE has the rear most c.member for a decent price w/the holes already punched. I couldn't find the right sized c-channel @ my local place & ordering from an unknown to save a buck or 2 didn't seem worth when I knew the ECE piece would fit w/o issue. Might be worth looking into.

The Panhard bar c.member should prob be left in place as it braces that area of frame specifically for the Panhard bar. There should be enough room to get a decent size tank back there when you move the rear-most c.member all the way back.

My buddy will prob come out to the shop tomorrow night (if it's not snowing here too) & I'll finally get those dimensions for you.

I will paint them black to match the front. As far as the crossmember for the PHB mount, you are correct. I did not think about the bracing of the frame. I guess it depends on how I do the new mounts as to how much I will have to put back as far as the number of rivets I take out. I will have a crossmember there.

It is suppose to snow today here also. I will be taking a short break on the truck to do a few other things around the house and repair a friends go cart for his kid.

Numbers for the truck arm mounts were 39.5" (F) & 41.5" (R). The tape measure was ever so slightly bowed: I measured the rear from the C/L of the brackets across the differential cover; I measured the fronts from the C/L of the brackets under the pinion snout.

If you need more specifics, give me a shout.

I did get the rear calipers painted this past Friday. I got a few things that need to be done around the house and my daughter's B-day is the is Saturday and baseball and racing start this week also....

Just finished reading your build. I will say one thing if it was the only complement I was allowed to give you is Holly !#$% those bends are awesome in your brake lines.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. Great job so far.

SCOTI - it has been so long since I got this rearend (about 11 years) I honestly do not remember what it was. I can tell you that I had it narrowed and it is now 56" wide (surface to surface). I wish I knew what it was...

I thought it looked pretty short from the pic. Your housing ends are very close to the TA pads, where mine on the 68 housing are 2-3" (squinting eye estimation) farther away.

Yea, they are close. When I made the pads back then, I had to modify the rear outside corner of the pad to clear the caliper. The pads I made were taller and longer then the ones that I recently purchased from CPP to redo that part.

thanks for the info on the calipers! I just didn't realize the difference, and almost ordered the wrong ones also!

It had been so long since I did this swap and most of my orginal documentation is either missing or lost (I have moved 4 times since and parts of this truck have been in multiple places). I have a 3 ring binder going for this time around and will have a better documentation this time.

Well it has been quite a while since I posted on this one. Just a little update on things. Baseball started for my boys about the time of my last post. That lasted into June. We bought a 1995 Ski Brendella boat in June which turned into what we did all summer and plan to take it out this weekend. Both my boys can now wake board and my daughter loves to tube and just jump in the water when we stop to switch out skiers/tubers.

I have not done a thing to the truck except collect a few parts. I picked up a few stock steelies(I have 6 now) and a couple of 8" rallies. I need one more 6.5" rally to make a set. Plan to pick up a TH350 trans within the next week or so.

Also, started another project with my oldest son....

I hate to say it, but there is more important things than these old truck. Family is where it's at. I don't have much family left. Congrats on the summer fun and new project.
