Hey Dino,

I'm actually in North Phoenix (35th Ave and Deer Valley) I just noticed that my location doesn't say Phoenix by my avatar. I'll have to change that...

I'll be at Super Chevy on Saturday as a spectator. I'll be the guy drooling all over himself when walking through the truck section....

Hey Dino, I'll do that. I'm usually in that area at Phoenix Children's hospital a few times a week since we do a lot of electrical work there...

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

I spent some time today cleaning up the grill and GMC emblems. I went with the black color on the emblems instead of the red. I think it looks pretty good black. My fingers are sore from rubbing the hell out of the emblems to get them to shine again...

All of the headlight adjusters broke as soon as I looked at them... Bad thing about the "dry" heat here... Need to run up to Grumpy's and get some new ones tomorrow.

I also got the front alignment done yesterday, so now it rides much better :metal:

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

I spent the day putting on some of the Christmas goodies that I got :metal:

First I installed the head light relay kit that I got from LMC. I figured that this would be the easiest way, but boy was I wrong...

I had no problem installing the kit, but when I fired up the light switch, it was another story... The outside lights worked fine, but the inner two lights had a slight glow to them. When I hit the high beams, they all worked fine.

First, I thought that I had a bad ground, so I installed a ground wire from each headlight bucket to the battery. That helped a little, but the inner two light still had a glow to them with the low beams on. I pulled the grill out again to look at the wiring again and make sure that I didn't have and loose connections.

As I was looking everything over, I compared the original harness to the new one and noticed that the outer headlight connectors on the new harness had the green and black wires in opposite locations. I looked into the headlamp (sealed halogen) and noticed that this high beam wire (green) was connecting to the common terminal on the back of the headlight... So I was running the power through the common ground for the two filaments instead of the high beam filament... I swapped the wires in the connectors and they are now working properly... Of coarse, now one of my high beam lamps (4001) burnt out in the process...

So, to sum it up, if I had known that this harness from LMC was made in Taiwan, I would have just got some new headlight wire connectors, wire, relays and just wired it myself... I didn't want to return it thinking that it should work fine and didn't want to disappoint the wifey...

Oh well, live and learn :flag:

Thanks daverod, I would love to do a frame of resto, but the funds don't permit it and I'm already knee deep in my tribute truck for my belated son. I just don't have the room or funds :whine:

The truck is pretty solid, but I did find some small rust holes in the lower part of both front fenders and in the floor board at the kick panels... I was pretty disappointed when I found them, but they are fixable.

Just need more time and money.... ;)

Hey Tony,
Thanks for the score on the grill.:metal:
Stopped by the platers and they gave me a price on fixing and replating it. Now I just need the extra dough before I drop it off... looking forward to the tax return,,,, filing next Monday... OH! And it was a pleasure meeting you. I think all the 60-66 guys in central AZ should start a club if there isn't one already.

Hey Chris, it was great meeting you today. I'm glad that someone got the grill that can put it to good use ;) hopefully it's not too costly to have it rechromed.

I totally agree about a local AZ 60-66 club. We have got plenty of these trucks here :metal:

I'll have to look you up the next time I'm the far East side :ito:

I have had a lot of stuff done by this plating guy over the years and it's not as bad as you may imagine.
Now all I need to do is find lettering...
And hey, it's really not all that far...

I got a good deal on some leather 05 Silverado seats for my truck :metal:

Exact color that I was looking for ;)

I got the drivers side bolted in, but still need to finish the other two. Hopefully this Saturday :uhmk:

Hoping to drive it to the Glendale Community College swap meet this Sunday and sell some of my junk I don't need anymore...

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

Thanks ;)

I've been wanting some for awhile now and just happen to be the first to call on them. They were usually sold by the time I called...

They are very comfortable, I just wish they were a little thinner on the back portion. With the seats hitting the back of the cab, I feel like I need them to go back one or two more clicks on the adjusters... Still not bad to drive, just wouldn't want to drive for hours...

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

I know exactly what you mean about needing just a little more room behind the seat.
I am very seriously contemplating stretching my cab a foot and using a short bed on my longbed frame.
Kind of an extended cab.
I get out of my 95 suburban and slip into the 66 and it just feels pinched.

SFTorange 02-03-2011 12:43 AM

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

Your seats look great! I wish mine were in tan, but grey is all I've been able to find. Doing a frame off resto is really nice, but expensive and all-consuming. Your truck is WAY better off now than mine ever was. From what I can see, drive it and enjoy it! Nice work!

Re: My 66 GMC LWB

Well, I installed my third brake light when I got home this afternoon. It was pretty easy and took about an hour to install. I think the hardest part was getting under the dash to tie in the wire to the brake light... :uhmk:

I was smart enough to pull a nylon string in when I replaced my dome light and wire harness, it made it so simple to pull the wire down to the door jam :metal:

The third brake light is slick. I like the dash panel too. The '60-'66 panels really lend themselves to customizing (at least they're easier than the '67-'72 clusters).

Thanks Shaky :metal:

Ya, I love everything about these trucks. So easy to work on, highly customizable, and just look too cool ;)

Is that your panel? Looks cool :metal: I'm planing to do the same in the future, but for now, I'm going to restore the spare panel with a few mods and then later put some Auto Meter classic gauges in similar to the one in your pic.

Yes - that's the one my brother and I made for my '66. It's just the '66 frame (black) with a 1/8 inch flat plate attached to it. I did the layout in CAD, printed it to scale, taped it to the plate, and then hit it with the hole saws.

Tony that third light looks like it was always supposed to be there. Way cool. I have also been keeping my eye open for a spare gage cluster to refinish and customize. I saw an old Pontiac dash that would be cool to graft in as well but at the moment, I want to keep it simple.
Nice job so far. :metal:

Thanks Chris :metal: The light is a great upgrade for our trucks.

I just got my gauge decal sheet from Classic Parts of America, but I'm not too happy on how it looks... It's not the same exact layout as the original and the numbers on the speedo look a little deformed... I may just scan my original into Photoshop and see if I can make my own.
