Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Well, not a whole lot to report.....but I decided to buy the wheels off of the brown parts truck I picked up. Ended up buying the wheels for $400 bux, not a steal my any means but will suffice till I can find a set of 19.5's and have them machined down. Can't really justify the cost of a set of machined 22's at this point, as much as I would love to. Time will tell on that later....
So here is the wheels, took a DA sander to them as they had some nasty gouges n such in the wheels here and there and some corrosion where the lugs meet the wheels. Used 80g first, then worked down to a 400g....then directional motion with some scotchbrite pads to get the brushed look. The truck will see daily driving and gravel roads n such....so high polished/high maintenance wheels are not my goal here. Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Managed to get some small things done over the past few weeks. Welded/shaved the roof seam, drip rails, and cab emblems. Replaced the passenger side cab corner, couple holes in the roof from cb antenna's etc. Installed the belltech spindles, dropped one ring off of the factory coils, alcoa's installed.
I mono foamed the roof (hold the flaming), due to having issues getting the roof sanded out properly as the roof likes to move being such a large panel. So decided to drill numerous 1/4" hols in the inside panel and fill with low expansion foam. Worked EXCELLENT! Roof is firm now and not as tinny of a sound either. You can push on the roof and it doesn't sink either. Took the better part of 4 cans. Will be doing this to the 4x4 build as well when I get her home....oh ya, bought another crew cab....lol. Like I needed a 4th! :metal: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../034Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...30Medium-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...29Medium-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../027Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../026Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../025Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../024Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../018Medium.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...04Medium-4.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...07Medium-2.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...05Medium-4.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s.../028Medium.jpg |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Nice!!
I need to foam the roof of my crew also, how many holes did you drill? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
probably around a dozon or so at least. I just guestimated around every 8" or so. The low expansion stuff won't push the panels out...DONT use the normal stuff!
Now when I hit the roof with the board sander the roof isn't bouncing all over the place making it very hard to get the roof straight while sanding. That and shouldn't have to worry about the roof pushing in as easy now with any type of weight. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Looks like its coming along very nice!
I'm going to use your tip on the Mono foam in my roof too cuz it bends all over the place when I try to sand it. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
It's getting there! At least you're in some sort of paint & body stage - mine hasn't even been able to get to that yet... Keep the updates coming!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Awesome job on the dash, I'm thinking about puting a 61 chevy pickup dash in the sbcc I'm building my wife. Your making good progress keep it up.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
When you foamed the roof did you drill from inside the cab or through the roof?

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Managed to get some more work done this weekend. Welded up the cab light mounting holes as the new ones appearantly mount different (caught it before priming...thank god), 2 coats of PPG industrial epoxy, 3 coats of highbuild primer, now just let her bake in the sun for a few weeks while I work on some other stuff and then block it out.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Not a whole lot at this point...been busy trying to prep for winter (covering the septic field, putting parts away and just general clean up around the yard before snow flies).
...and brought home another crew cab 4x4....lol. This one was super nice but all in pieces as it was a project that someone lost interest in. Will get shortened as well and have some plans in place for it as well. Small lift, steelie 16x10's with max of 35's, just a nice clean driver. Should be pretty sweet when done too...but time will tell and gotta get this one to a drivable state first. Did get the front fenders (insides) sanded down ready for primer and paint, guide coated the cab and have it 50% blocked out, dually fenders are prepped, repaired and primed. Other than that...not much has happened yet. Will get some updates here soon. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
.....on the fence again about keeping it a dually or swapping over to a srw. Will still stay 8 lug but really don't know what it will look like as a shorty dually. Any opinions?

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
There was a guy on here that had one...I'll try searching for a pic of it...

Go with SRW - it looks cleaner & it's ALWAYS easier to park!!!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I'd leave it as a CC SWB DRW. Everyone has a SRW!

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
anyone have any pictures of said dually shorty?

Look in the crewcab sticky there's a red ccsb dually with flames on it there. page 2 post 23. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
ya, seen that but hard to tell. I have one of a 4x4 version as well and it looks like they set the fenders back a couple inches to and looks ok. Just need to see some pics I guess to be able to make up my mind. I have a crap load of work to do in the meantime anyways, but would like to decide for wheel/tire combo soon so that I can keep an eye out for the right deals.

Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
Another dilema I have been fighting with......paint schemes. I have a few going through my head and I'm sure they would all look ok but wouldn't mind some unbiased insight.
** Things to consider: I already have brand new carpet sitting here in grey, can find seats like the black ones in the thread at the wrecker for probably around $300 bux, and have grey door panels already. This truck will be a driver and will see gravel roads, parts runs, kids, and of course shows. I like to keep my builds realistic and as drivable as possible but still keeping the "what the *$&^$" effect if you will. Not really worried about what has been done or not done at this point with paint cause depending where you are located it all will vary, and technically it has nearly all been done before somewhere. 1) Patina white exterior (hand painted buisness logo on doors and down box sides) Lipstick red interior 2) Patina white exterior (hand painted buisness logo on doors and down box sides) Patina white dash with grey carpet, seats, door panels, etc. Airbrushed/tatoo'd mayhem all over the dash in a collage of old school stuff from the hot rod era. Then made to look sort of patina'd and old. 3) Bright white exterior Bright white dash with grey carpet, seats, door panels, etc. 4) Original 73-74? GMC metallic green Grey interior 5) Original 73-74? GMC metallic green Tan/doeskin interior 6) Flat black exterior Grey interior 7) Flat black exterior Lipstick red interior ....this being said I am now picturing a SRW conversion keeping it 8 bolt pattern and steelies or possibly the smoothies in a 20-22" painted to resemble the steelies with factory hub caps. If I go with factory 16"ers (which I very well might just to be a bit different) I would like to go with a big fat white wall on white wheels. Photoshop is down for a bit or I would chop something up. Regardless, let me know what you think. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
I love your truck an the amount of work you're doing to make this truck cool.
In my unprofessional opinion, lol, I think that all of those choices are great. But I think with the patina'd look and the flat black look choices are great, but they are very individualized, and if you ever decided to resell the truck, it might make selling it a little harder than if it was a more widely appealing paint job like the white or green. I believe the green would be my choice. |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude

The plan is to give the whole truck a nice white paint job (if I go that route) and then once it's all together it will get patina'd. The jambs, firewall underside of the hood etc will all stay nice and pristine. That way if I do decide to change things up later or sell it....just a matter of scuff n spray again. Simple and cheap. Thanks for the input....:metal: |
Re: Project: Crew'd Attitude
The green with gray interior sounds like a winner to me.
I also like the idea of 20" smoothies with stock caps, maybe paint the center of the wheels white and leave the outer lip chrome or polished. Posted via Mobile Device |

How about green and white 2 tone, with white down the middle and the white smoothies with stock hub caps?
