Re: "The 72" build
haha im still working on gettting it tuned right UGH
|
Re: "The 72" build
well i orderd summits 383 stroker block. its a vortec block machined and clearanced for a 383 stroker. im still deciding what rotating assembly and cam and heads to go with. any suggestions?
|
Re: "The 72" build
i think scat is better than eagle..
heard good things about xe268 for power |
Re: "The 72" build
yeah ive heard scat is better than eagle also. ill check out that cam. i dont wanna go to hot since this is my daily driver
|
Re: "The 72" build
Im not sure if that cam is for roller setup or not, I would suggest putting a post in the engines forum
tell your specs rearend gear rpm range etc etc etc and ask for some suggestions im assuming you wanna build same motor as me but 383 :) Mines not anywhere closed to being tuned so I cant give you any info on the thumper, ive heard its more of a noisemaker than power maker, it does sound awesome though.. |
Re: "The 72" build
yeah ive heard that about the thumpr. but ive also heard they make good power from some people. yeah the closest roller grind is the 270 which is what i think im gonna go with
|
Re: "The 72" build
i ordered the rotating assembly today. i went with a scat kit. its got forged flattop pistons, 6 inch i beam rods, and a cast crank. i think im gonna go with the edelbrock top end kit. they say they made it for the 383 stroker and they claim it makes 460 hp
|
Re: "The 72" build
jeez! 460hp!! How much you plan on having in this build if you dont mind sharing?
|
Re: "The 72" build
i just did a rough estimation of 4700. but thatd be with everything completed including headers hopefully. but this is my one opportunity and i wanna do it right. ive dreamed of this for like 5 years now
|
Re: "The 72" build
this last weekend i took the pickup on a 400 mile roadtrip. it ran like a charm!
|
Re: "The 72" build
sweet how much gas $ that cost LOL! pictures?
|
Re: "The 72" build
haha it wasnt as much as you think but still not cheap. worth every penny though :metal: the reason for no pics is that i havnt done anything in awile. my block came yesterday so once i get it on the engine stand ill post some pics
|
Re: "The 72" build
k dont do anything stupid to that truck, its really a nice truck, promise me that ok, and dont wreck it eithe rlol
|
Re: "The 72" build
i figured its time to update my build thread. farm work is done for the year so i finally have time to work on my pickup. i finaly started assempling the engine (yes, i know i should have started long ago). cant wait for it to run with lots of power for once!
|
Re: "The 72" build
PICTURES MAN?
Ya stayin warm? Its COLD here must be chilly up there! |
Re: "The 72" build
yeah id like to have put pictures up but our camera didnt work and we just got a new one. ive made progress on the motor. i know it doesnt sound like much but i finally got the rotating assembly mostly together. ive still been workin on the farm even with the cold. but i cant wait till she runs!!!!

Re: "The 72" build
hey charles,
i wanna say i am sorry , about the valve covers i tried to get shipping qoutes and stuff , then we moved . so after that we didnt have internet for a couple months finally nov.17 we got internet and looked online and you blocked your pms from me or everyone and i couldnt tell you , turns out my dad wanted to use them and never told me just wanna say sorry. thanks rick |
Re: "The 72" build
brrr lol
Any new pictures?!?! Did ya go scat or eagle, I forgot? What heads/cam ya decide on? When ya supposed to fire the beast? |
Re: "The 72" build
i finally have pictures! :metal:but every time i try to upload them, it says i dont have some sort of security token? any of you know about that? i got the shortblock done! i know it sounds like i dont get much done, but ive never done this before and im trying to do it all on my own. i went with the scat kit. im undecided on the rest of the engine. it has forged pistons and 6 inch rods.67chevy1series, its ok that you gave em to someone else cuz i found a mint set of m/t's off ebay for less than 100 bucks.

Well i havnt been on here in awile and its because i just started working on my pickup about 2 weeks ago since the last time i posted on here. Since i was last on here we got flooded out of our farm and had to move out to a different house and i didnt have a place to work on it and we were swamped with work including things related to the flooding and the farm work. But ive started working on it again because we were able to move back to the farm after we built up our driveway. I ended up having the machine shop build my 383 for me. It has RHS pro action heads and a comp roller cam. Im estimating about 430 hp. I bought a super t10 for it and the engine, tranny, and headers are installed

Re: "The 72" build
That is one sweet motor, I would love to drive a 430 plus hp truck!!!! It would probably beat the neighbours 1967 GTX.
|
Re: "The 72" build
glad to have ya back, wow thats alot of motor, we need more specs/updates lol
|
Re: "The 72" build
well heres the specs on the engine.
scat rotating assembly, forged flattops, 6 inch rods heads, rhs pro action heads, 180 cc intake, i wanted 200cc but the machine shop suggested 180's cam, comp xtreme energy roller, duration at .050 is 230/236. lift is .510/.520 harland sharp roller rockers. i cant remember the ratio but i think 1.5 or 1.6. the machinest had them and he gave me a good deal. edelbrock performer rpm air gap edelbrock 750 carb m/t valve covers yeah our life was turned upside down with the flooding and my pickup was crammed in an old building surrounded by other machinery and i never had the chance to work on it. im really excited about it now tho. |
Re: "The 72" build
sounds like a screamer
wat rear gears? |
Re: "The 72" build
im not sure. im just gonna use the ones that are in there for now. is there any way of telling what gears i have?

Re: "The 72" build
get some black rtv, and a few qts of 90wt oil
pull the cover count the teeth/get the #'s stamped on the ring gear divide small number into big number thats your gear ratio |
Re: "The 72" build
ok thanks ill do that sometime. i wanna get a posi unit any way cuz i think itl be a one wheel wonder the way it is now. I think im gonna get a caddy/olds air cleaner for it. anyone like/dislike this idea? :fb: i also ordered a stainless steel ruger blackhawk 44 magnum cylinder that im gonna make into a shift knob :metal: im planning on gettin the motor fired up this weekend. i ordered a bunch of small parts from summit, fuel line, filter, carb return spring etc.... my cousins r comin down from north dakota this weekend and i wanna get it fired up while theyre here.
|
Re: "The 72" build
my vote is a dual snorkel, they built one on the powerblock awhile back. Ill fidn the link if your interested.
that would fit the truck i think ps loe the way ya buildin this truck |
Re: "The 72" build
yeah id definently be interested in learning more about that air cleaner! :metal: thanks for the encouragement, i wanna build it all unique/ old school
|
Re: "The 72" build

Re: "The 72" build
