Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
These are pretty original looking. The hubcaps are wrong on the first one:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...pick-up-12.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/DSCN0159.jpg It has always been rare to see a truck left totally original. It's actually period correct to see items added, changed,or replaced with an upgrade. It's not a matter of being considered "just a truck" but more like them being considered "a truck". Even well optioned highly desired collector cars would have been personalized from day one. People weren't buying classics for people to collect 40 years later. They were buying a new vehicle to use in whatever way suited their needs. This one has looked like this since brand new: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...aturedGMC5.jpg So has this one: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...068515B25D.jpg And this one: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...00Q855B15D.jpg And another: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...rexE35B15D.jpg |

Just sight-seeing from the squarebody section, but I had to compliment the owners of these surivors... Thanks for a pleasant reminder of how beautiful these trucks are right out of the box. The '64 - '66 are my all time favorite body style and these trucks are all stunning. Thanks!
Makes up for my neigbor's never-washed-since-new '65 with ladder rack that I pine for every morning on the way to work! |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
i had found an original estate sale truck probably 1-2 years ago on Craigslist...it was somewhere in TN....i should've saved some pics, & i wish i would've had the $6k to buy it at the time....and i almost bought this light green '66 which was for sale on Craigslist...if i remember correctly, it had an original 283/Auto with about 100k original miles...:

What a great score, oem4me! |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Hey oem4me
I remember seeing your truck at a car show in the parking lot of the chevy dealership in Burbank a few years back I was vary impressed with your find. |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Thanks forestb, That was the VCCA show (Vintage Chevrolet Club of America).
I've been lucky enough to win "Best of Show" in it's class three out of three years entered there. Three is enough, someone else can win next year. |

Body color on all that I've seen. I had read somewhere that there were deviations on detail stuff like that, depending on the assembly plant.

I think it depended on the plant, I have seen them both ways... |
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
All of them very cool, I bet they all still have that unique smell inside, something that goes away after a restoration. These trucks were mostly bought for work, which is why they all got beat up and rusted out.
|
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Restored and original are not the same thing....

My 64 GMC has a fawn fire wall also.
|
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Once again I learned something new today. I've never seen one of these trucks in real life with a fawn colored firewall. It makes sense though considering how this might have streamlined production.
|
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I remember reading about the fawn colored firewall in another thread here not long ago. I believe it was just one of the assembly plants that was doing this. I don't remember which one it was though.

Growing up, my Grandpa's 65 Chevy 4x4 had that smell. It also had the whine of the SM465, with the rattle of 4-speed gearshift knob. Of all the work I plan on doing to my 66, those are three things I will do my best to leave in my truck; it makes me think of Grandpa. :) |

I got this 1961 GMC from a guy who says it has been in a barn for 15 years. It has factory power steering and only 45,000 miles on it...with a 305 big block V6 and 3 speed on the tree. All the rust you see is surface rust and thats about it! Yep the picture makes it look ruff and does it no justice......but its all there. I can't wait to get started on this old GMC.
|
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I seen another member use clr and a scotch pad clean all the rust off.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
yes it was in an earlier thread about the fawn colored firewalls.most(not all)east coast built trucks had the fawn firewall's.in my personal experience of the trucks i have owned and others i have looked at is the firewall is fawn on all east coast built trucks except the 1966 trucks which were a solid color and they had the firewall painted to match the exterior of the truck.the 1966 tutone trucks also had the fawn firewall built in the east.

interesting discussion about the fawn firewalls. other than jonzcustomshop's post which certainly looks original - the ONLY trucks I've ever seen with fawn firewalls were the high-dollar no-stone-left-unturned restorations. Here's a few more, one in green and one in red (red one is different than the restored one above, this one has an orange engine). Final pic is of an unrestored white 62, it had a black firewall (not original engine). I can't keep track! Which brings up anOTHER quesiton - I thought the 66 327's (i.e. comparing this red truck with the one posted earlier) were normally painted gray or blue!! Maybe they were - just not on this one though. Learn somethin new every day.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
I'm like you. I like the all original look more than the slammed and jacked up modifications. I think of these like they're a piece of history. I wouldn't slam or jack up the constitution :)

Omg what a great thread!!!
|
Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?
Big thanks to FactoryStock and OEM4ME for keeping the drum beat of originality alive around here! I've never really understood why historic pickups owners (largely) ignore or don't seem to value originality in the same way that almost any other classic vehicle owners do. Just look at the polar opposite attitudes toward "restorations" that you find between '60s era Corvette lovers and 60s era Chevy pickup lovers! Can you say NCRS?!? For vehicles of the same vintage coming from the same company their perspectives toward originality could not be more different!
