Rene... no way the air cleaner is stock. Those were only on performance cars. As mentioned before, it is probably worth quite a bit on its own.

Black was the only interior color that there was no original houndstooth bench seat. Parchment, dark green, and blue were the only colors to have houndstooth. You could get buckets in those colors too, but no houndstooth on them.

Cool, I learned something new today! I have had two Supers, one with blue houndstooth bench, and one with parchment houndstooth bench. I did know that the buckets were all originally solid vinyl. :metal:

AGREED! The first give away I saw to a resto was the bed floor- then all the other clues everyone has added- AND the side trim all appears to have been polished rather than the anodized duller finish from the factory.

Still a killer truck- surprised they didn't add buckets to make it a "full boat"!

Hey Rene,... with all your knowledge of west coast 67-72 trucks,... what kind of money would this truck bring?

Is the market still good?
Is this a $15K truck in your opinion?

Keith, the market is always good for a BB, if that was mine I would guess $17K on the low side and $ 21K after I added buckets and a AM/FM. If the SPID was intact I would be firm on my high price.

Just curious what your thoughts are on being original? (since you have seen it in person) I also noticed alot of things not quite correct, and no spid would be a big one to document everything. Don't get me wrong here, i would love to own it, and i am not picking it apart, just makes me wonder about originality of it.

(no GM source for this info?)

Add a true truck tilt to that list also, it looks to be a very deserving candidate. This is one beautiful truck, just not as original and untouched as pictured now. Mel

Remember this was the first time I ever got close to it, in twenty years of just viewing the elderly woman, I guess in my mind from the first time I laid eyes on it, I had to assume it's "The unrestored little old lady's truck" I think we all would have figured the same, so today after getting my chance to take a few photos, I really didn't study it hard, but to be honest I totally thought it was the real deal, maybe partly because I was very excited, but I was disappointed when I discovered the SPID was missing, scratching my head wondering why she would remove it, But if in the next twenty years I ever get the chance again, I'm going to study it with a fine tooth comb.

Would have really left you scratching your head had she came across member chipflyer/outintheshop.com and had one of his spids installed. A customer in Modesto recently told me half of the shorties he comes across down his way are riding on chopped down frames, you just never know these days. Mel :chevy:

Rene- I am surprised nobody has asked...did you get a pic of the VIN plate? That will tell a lot of the story. See if the original rosette (flower) rivets are still there. Also check the number and see if it begins CE1 or CE2. If CE2, it was 3/4 ton LWB, if CE1 it was 1/2 ton, either LWB or SWB...since it is a 71, if the VIN begins CE1, I would tend to believe it is a true SWB. Of course, you would need to crawl underneath and look at the frame to see if it has been cut and if the frame and cab numbers match.

That being said, as it sits this truck would still IMHO bring 15K with no problem. Add some upgrades as you stated, and 17-20K would sell to the right buyer.

In the second pic of the engine compartment you can see that the column has the long shaft indicating that it's a van tilt. The shaft is 2 5/8" longer than a truck tilt. And the shift indicator can be seen in the pic that shows the tach. Trucks used a smaller font on it as opposed th the vans larger lettering.

It's a sure fire nice truck. I love the color and it would only be better in solid color with a saddle interior. I did notice that's not an original dash bezel right off the bat.

The original 4-core radiators are easily identified from just a top view. Paul is correct, the radiator is an after-market. Not a big deal, but since we were all looking at it as a possible Real-Deal truck, noticing the radiator was a very good catch.

The one thing that would help get past the missing SPID would be a Protect O Plate. There might be hope yet, but I have my doubts.

We all think this is a very nice truck! I for one appreciate the people that help everyone distinguish features of authentic trucks. There is an incredible amount of knowledge out there that I hope people continue to share. Hopefully people don't get offended by their comments.

What about saddle????? I don't recall ever seeing an original saddle houdstooth seat but I never thought about it.

Super nice truck, I'm amazed how much you guys know about these trucks. Seems like there wasn't very many trucks made the way this one is equipped. 40 years is a long time to keep one original too.

I am suspect of anything that loaded being original...especially with the SPID missing...red flag...It's still kewl...and that is what is kewl about these trucks and other vehicles for that matter...build the one you want...it may not be original...but its yours...and you can have the one you want with out BJ prices...:ito:

I would say 16-18K as it sits, 0rig with documentation could bring 25-30. My Dad and 3 brothers are Auctioneers and 1 has worked B-J, a lot of the SOLD units are sold back to the seller.
