Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Sorry Rick, I don't have any pics of the back yet. My camera died because I had the flash on inside the shop. I will get some pics tomorrow.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
*****en truck I am curently prowling for the exact truck congrats. What size wheels are on it? it looks like some wheel i have been looking for?

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Corsair the rims are just regular 15 inch steel rims. I guess the 67 half tons had 15 inch rims. I want to find some original full hubcaps with the black center and the white letters.
Rick the truck has been painted. After I started looking more closely I see that the top was painted white when it was new, and the bottom was a metallic blue. It is the same color that you see on the dash. At one time someone paited the lower portion of the truck white too (under the side chrome which is missing). I can see where the overspray hit the back of the cab and the front of the bed, but there is blue under that paint. On the top the white is the first layer. |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
oh well maybe you do it back original style? i never did like the white under our 67-8 trim
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Nice start, I like it.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Yeah I think just the top was white, the rest of the truck was blue. Eventually I will repaint it. Right now im just fixing a few little things to get it ready to drive some. I'm checking the joints, the fluid levels in everything, cleaning out the cowl, and working on the carburator.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks for checking, Nothing better than stock wheels and Caps classic look.
Good luck with the build I will keep a eye on it for sure. CORSAIR |

AMAzing!!!!!!!!
Can you post some pics of the drive line please! |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
I was thinking about the 6 leafs on my truck a little more so I went out and counted 6 on my 3/4 ton with heavy rear suspension. Due to that, I was less sure they were original. I emailed the previous owner today and he said that heavier springs were installed so that makes sense. I wonder what the lwb originally had, 4?

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
I love this truck. Going to be a great build.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
wait both of your guys trucks are welded!?!?!?
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thanks for the pics Jud. I don't know if the lwb would have had different springs.
Now for the mounts. The mounts are different. That is why my motor is higher on one side. Mine has had the tabs broke off on it. You can see where it was welded in the pix. The only reason I can think it would have a taller mount is to clear the ac compressor pulley on the crank. That pulley is very close to the front crossmember. But that is just a guess. I will take more pics. I dont know about the other bracket either. If you notice Jud my exhaust manifolds have holes that are plugged for a smog pump. That bracket may have been for that? But I am just guessing again. Maybe someone can show us a complete power steering bracket for a v6. Rick my drivers side motor mount had been welded, and Jud thinks his power steering bracket has been welded. Posted via Mobile Device |

Probably a aftermarket style compressor, like a giant York compressor that was popular back in the day. |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
You can imagine how close that pass side valve cover is to the firewall. It has actually been hitting it.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
It takes the same frigidare type compressor. It mounts under the alternator. It still has those brackets on the engine.

Man, that is one great truck!!
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thank you. I think I sent you a message before about the compressor brackets. This truck has all of them except the two pieces that bolt onto the compressor itself. I would love to have a pic of those pieces. I am hoping to match them to something I can find locally.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
this got moved which sucks i always love to lok at this forum but always get side tracted so now i will miss out some times
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
I still haven't figured out what gets moved where and why ???? Obviously if no one responds then it is the wrong forum. I would think that a "message" that is posted and gets 100's of views is in the right place ! Wait maybe this should be in the message board?

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Yeah, I guess they want to keep all 4x4 discussion in the 4x4 section.

Well, no need to worry about the change in location. We can keep up the discussion right here. I will have more pics to post in a few days.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Thank you Tim for the time to take and post those pics. The two brackets in the bottom picture that bolt to the compressor are the ones that I am missing. I will save that picture and keep searching for some.
I have another question Tim. I am wondering about the engine mounts on this truck. Would only A/C trucks have that taller mount on the drivers side like the one that is shown in the top pic of post #55. The only problem with this is that the passenger side valve cover is very close to the firewall. But the A/C pulley is also very close to the front crossmember. Do you have any ideas? --Clint |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
My truck has the same A/C and power steering brackets as Tim's. The motor mounts look the same as well. I wonder if the bracket that the upper radiator goes through on your truck is a '64-'66 power steering pump bracket. The earlier V-6 trucks had the power steering pump up on top of the front of the engine. Maybe your truck wasn't built with power steering, and someone added it using pre '67 parts. I have no idea why your motor mounts have been raised. I looked up the motor mounts and brackets in a parts book, and they should be the same as my 4X2. Only V-6's with automatic tarnsmissions had different mounts.
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Bob that could be an earlier ps bracket. My truck does not have power steering, it just has that bracket. I will take that off then.
Thanks for the info on the mounts. The only one that is raised is the drivers side. I will take that tall mount out also and see what happens. It just looks like that crank A/C bracket is going to be very close to the front crossmember. |
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Bob B, would you have a picture of the correct mount in your truck? I'd like to compare with mine.
|
Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Great truck. I have my 68 apart for a complete frame-off restomod. If you have any questions or need pictures let me know.

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Jud, have you been doing anything else to your truck? I'm surprised that they did not move your thread over to the 4x4 section also.
Erl, thanks for the offer to help. You have a great truck. I love those LWB stepsides. I will let you know if I need any other pics. --Clint |

Re: 67 gmc 4x4
Clint,
It looks like my valve cover is about 3/4" from the firewall at the closest point. I'd still like it if Bob or Erl could post a pic of what the original mounts look like. It seems like your crank pulley has three grooves! Mine has 2. I'm going to update my thread a little now, we'll see if it gets moved. Jud |
