Here's some parts I got over a year ago from thelonerife...

under dash lights and glovebox light...both which I assume would have been on this truck but were already gone. No biggie...I have them :)

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5347.jpg

Also have a clip kit I got for my upper trim

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

I also dropped off three sets of buckets today to get new PUI covers on them. One for the truck and two to sell ;) Should have them back in a couple weeks. Pulled down my upper trim out of the overhead storage in the garage. Going to polish it up and make sure it's up to what I feel this truck deserves or I'll order a complete new upper and lower set.

And I sent a money order to AJ (some of you may know him). A great guy who's been around these trucks for over 25 years. Getting a really nice tilt, a big block shroud, a tach lens, and some super emblems from him.

I am pleased with the ability of sourcing the parts so far....I had many of them already in house....and now have only a few more left to go....and I have lots of time so I'm looking for deals now...it's nice knowing I have a few months and a few swap meets I can go to before having to shell out top dollar ;) :chevy:

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

The other thing that's crazy about this truck is the firewall insulation. It's in like new condition. I'm probably going to glue up the one loose upper piece above the glovebox and then mask it all off and just use it. I see no need to tear it off since it's perfect. One less thing to do and buy. :metal:

You're going through a lot of effort to use really nice parts on this rascal. I'm wondering why you're going with Vintage Air?

I just feel it's an upgrade and I REALLY hate the way the stock A/C box and hoses fill up an engine bay. I know, personal preference is not a good idea when trying to sell a vehicle...but I think it's a change for the better in most people's eyes. And anyone wanting to do a 100% resto could easily take the vintage air out and put a stock system in. I'm not going to weld the firewall. It a surefit system.

I still could change my mind....I've been known to....and if someone sent me a message saying they were interested in the truck when complete and wanted factory air.....well....it would get factory air

Thanks. I still am going to do a little more cleaning and painting on the frame. It looks great in pictures, good in person...but upon close inspection isn't up to "show quality" With the rest of the build headed towards show quality I have to make sure the frame is too, right

Me too man, the gate on the bed is rust free but bowed and a few dents. The orange and white one is the real cherry one! That one is amazing for its' lack of dings/dents

I understand that. I've got a 69 Camaro that was an air car and I went with Vintage on that too. It was originally a 350 2 bbl NOM, powerglide car that now has a 454 in it so I felt free to do whatever I wanted with it.

That's what's keeping me going back and forth on this one. It is a converted lwb....but it was done the right way and is a true SWB BB framed Cheyenne Super BB that's loaded....decisions...decisions.....especially since this arrived today...

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Well, not much work done on the truck today. Was super busy with a potential side job and I also met up with boardmember PGSigns to deliver his new wheels :D So I have some more truck money :metal:

I got to spend some quality time with my 3 and 6 yr old girls out in the garage showing them what things were and how they worked. I forgot to mention that my 3yr old was on my lap or in her princess chair out in the garage half the other night I was taking the dash apart. It was great to share time with her and listen to her 10million and 1 questions about what I was doing. She keeps asking me if I'm ready to paint it yet  She remembers getting in the back of my blazer when it was painted. She really enjoyed that. My daughters will each get a ride in this one when it's painted and on the road.

We decided to grab a bunch of the smaller parts and lay them out for a picture or three.....
I keep finding more parts for this build! It's nice to have a lot of parts in my garage/house sometimes ;)

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5374.jpg

Super nice original dash pad...might as well be NOS!!!
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5373.jpg

T3 headlights
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5383.jpg

New bezels and lenses for all lights
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5385.jpg

All stainless fasteners for the interior. Love this kit as it's all labeled for each interior
piece
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5386.jpg

Super nice original armrests...again like NOS
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5389.jpg

Restored black belts
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5390.jpg

Guide parking lights
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5391.jpg

New front grille emblem and NOS door edge guards
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...B/IMG_5393.jpg

And...it's got a Big Block so this will go in the gauge cluster when I build it...after I clean it up :metal:

Sounds good. I'm going to run a pretty mellow muffler on this one but it should have a nice rumble being a big block!

I can take measurements for you if you like.... but with a new carpet kit you could really just space them out evenly.

i dont even know where you screw them haha in the double wall area above tha gas tank or on the bottom? measurements and pics would be awsome!

I'll get the measurements for you. They go just above the tank under the window. The pics are on this thread already...

is this it? i dont know if i want to screw into the carpet and then into the cab right there....do i have to do this,in order to have the carpet stay in p[lace and look good? http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1298606792

VA72C10 02-25-2011 12:24 AM

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

There are a total of 12 holes....that is one of them. They run the entire way across the back of the cab. You might be able to use velcro sewn to the carpet and glued to the cab.

67chevy1series 02-25-2011 12:25 AM

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

do i have to screw it there? i would rather have it screw lower but then it would only be single metal what if i let it just ''lay'' against the gas tank?

VA72C10 02-25-2011 02:09 AM

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Screwing it in is the correct way. As I edited my above post to say, you could do velcro also.

I finally got my inner A/C box out. Just had to hit it hard with both hands a few times and it was loose enough to pull out.

Worked on gutting the doors and the driver's vent crank is fused to the regulator??? Thinking someone JB welded it or something. Have to charge up the sawzall tomorrow. Then I'll be gutting the doors and sanding off the paint on the cab in preparation to taking it in for welding patch panels and then body work.

Nice, looks like you are on your way to a nice Super. Correct details with the gas tank carpet holes. I might have you measure those out for me. Do you have the special brass tabs for the carpet? Trevor

Thanks. I am going to pull some measurements tomorrow and will post them up here.

Brass tabs..... I'll have to look through the box of parts/hardware I have. Do you have a picture of what they look like?

If this wasn't a super BB truck, I wouldn't have gone with a factory AM/FM. They make nice aftermarket ones around 200 that fit the factory hole and honestly will put out better sound with better reception.

Hey Rick, the aftermarket gas tank carpet kits come with clips that clip over the gas tank. You don't have to screw into those holes, but originally that's what they did on bucket seat optioned trucks.

VA72C10- I'll get ya some pics. Trevor

thanks trevor! did they have that for 67-8s to? maybe it was different for 69 72 is this correct? either way it is good to know

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

I decided to decode my block before I send it out to have it checked. Checked on the archived Mortec http://web.archive.org/web/200805180...ww.mortec.com/ and nastyz28.com. If anyone sees anything I am decoding wrong, let me know...but looks like it verifies as a correct engine for the truck.

Casting 3969854 means it's a 402 BB from 70-72. THe E4*71 shows the block itself was cast on May 4th, 1971. Can't read anything else on the block so not sure when it was assembled or where...but seems to fit a 72 model truck 402.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super Short Fleet Big Block build!

Also confirmed I wanted the AM/FM pictured today :chevy:

Getting it from the Cheyenne super man. He's now providing me with two bezels, two restored glovebox doors, two sets of woodgrain inserts including polishing the retainers around the woodgrain, a restored console, and the radio. I have a really nice console and an extra set of buckets. Going to put together a complete cheyenne super interior for some lucky buyer including a tac w/ speedwarning dash :chevy:

Once I sell some more parts I'll be able to buy some more

I did get 5 tach dashes including the above mentioned speedwarning in today to restore :D
