Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
As fast as your working the truck will be on the road in a few days! I hate this one is going to have to be rushed through. Best of luck to you and the unnecessary deadline!

Just build a taller fence or take the neighbor hunting.

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
My parents come by today and gave me a helping hand. My dad was really excited, she was his dream truck and owned her for many years before he gave her to me as a graduation present. She was a 7 1/2 year father and son project back in the 80's. She never got finished.

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Thats awesome your parents came over to help!
I say you fill up balloons with a weed killer/water solution and give them a toss into the neighbors yard. Makes for a pretty lawn!!! Use the glycol from the hardware store so it wont start killing it for a few days. By then the balloon is gone. If they are too far away to throw them, buy a water balloon sling shot. A few beers and a few friends, man thats some good times in the south! |

We have a collector clause in the city ordinance that says i can have antique vehicles as long as they are registered or im showing progress on them. we also have a clause that says if it cant be seen by the city or other people (via privacy fence or garage) im not in violation. we also have a peeping tom ordinance that cost my outstanding neighbors a hefty fine. i feel for you man, but your right payback is nice. |

I thought I would be able to find out who it was when I was accused of having a chop shop. Nope, didn't help. I have an idea, once the inspector gives me the final inspection on the 9th. The yard should be completely clean. He did mention that he couldn't stop me from working on the vehicles, since they are registered and insured. So, once all is cleaned up, I'm thinking of continuing what I'm doing, on a smaller scale, so when the city comes back to climb on my roofs with the cops again. Or if they want come and peek over my 7 foot gate, all they will see is a clean orderly yard. That should really drive the sissy pants crazy cause the city will have nothing on me. The cops might come over as they do now and stop me for the day but they themselves have told me to continue after their shift is over. This way if their called again, it all starts from scratch and I don't get fined. Sorry to hear about your court issues with these kind of matters, all we're trying to do here is put some beautiful trucks back on the road. And it seems as everyone enjoys them, cause when I would drive mine, I always got a thumbs up. I've even had cops and CHP's pull me over to check her out before.:metal:. Good luck with your venture. |
Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
gotta love thous flatheads. im waiting on the next letter now. i just got a couple of 30 sedans bodies dropped off. im having a new drive poured to my shop and the delivery guy dropped em at the front instead of the back like they're supposed to(must be a new driver) so its going to be a few days before i can move em.

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Man am i ever jealous. Your truck looks amazing, excellant work. I sold my 72 2wd shortbox stepside and bought a 69 shortbox stepside 4wd. PO did a very bad job of body repair on cab, so now i need to fix that. I wish my truck looked like yours. Keep the pics coming.:chevy:
What are you running for rear dics brake? Is it a kit? |

The rubber kit finally came in after months of being on back order. So in go the windshields.
http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0119-1.jpg Picked up the grill at Vet's this Sunday, along with a bunch of brackets and misc pieces. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0127-1.jpg Note to self, install the windshield while the cab is lower to the ground. working on her at this height is not much fun http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...IMG_0131-1.jpg |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Thanks, I love any of these body style trucks, My next wish list project is a 4x4 Suburban in this body. Hope the wife doesn't kill me, lol. I bought the brackets from blue torch fab years ago, the rotors and calipers are '75 K20 fronts. I like the way they work, the only hassle is the bleeding process.
Yeah i know what you mean, i would of loved to of kept the low rider. It was a fun truck to drive, but my wife says i could only have one truck. I would love to have a low rider, 4x4 K5, and 4x4 suburban. A guy could dream.:chevy: How bad is it to bleed rear brakes and are you running a porpotioning valve? |
Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Nice work. I really like that frame color, I may change on the next one.

I had to end up bleeding the breaks with a vacuum bleeder, old school pumping and finally a pressure bleeder to get the rear mushiness out. |

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Beautiful truck sir, can you tell me how much lift you have between the springs and shackles? Sorry if I missed that part in the thread, Im guessing it is 6" +/- with 35's?

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off

She's riding on 6" leafs from Alcan but wouldn't clear my 36" Baja Claws. I then ran a 1" zero offset from ORD in the rear, the front shackles are 1 1/2" from Daystar. She clears the 36"s now, they're a metric tire, can't remember the exact size right now but they equate to a 36". Hope this helps. |
Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Cool, thanks for the info, I was trying to determine what it would take to clear 40's on this body style... my last truck was just levelled out with 33's, so I have no experience going higher yet.
It sounds like it took roughly 7/7-1/2" of lift for the 36's then, good to know. Truck looks great BTW! |

How bad is it to bleed rear brakes and are you running a porpotioning valve?
I'm running a prop valve before the Mico Lock and the rears are a PITA to blead, I've tried gravity, vacuum and pressure bleeding. each makes it a bit better but I haven't gotten them as good as I wish they would be. |
Re: 72 K10 Frame Off

If I had to do it again, I would really consider going with a diff color, not only is the body work a PITA but keeping it clean is even worst. My wife really wanted me to restore her and all she asked is that I keep her black. She actually wanted matte black but I couldn't justify all that hard work to go matte. So I told her that the next truck (a '71) will be a matte. Now I need to clean her weekly and she hasn't even hit the streets yet. My neighbors have been crying about any little noise I make. I'm soo sick of this B.S. |
Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
Sorry to hear about the neighbors. I'm supper lucky in that area, the only one I have is 1/8 ml away. Hope to see some updates on the Nova and this truck soon. I havnt been working on mine either though.

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
You'll have to catch up on it. Rallies are gone, currently going with 17x8 and 17x 10.5 mustang wheels I had laying around. Have started cutting the inner 1/4 fenders and scratch building mini tubs. Probably post some pics of my newest creations over the weekend. Check on Steve's

Re: 72 K10 Frame Off
I noticed the new wheels after I posted the comment on the rallies. :-) Lookin' real good.
