Whenever you're ready! I'm on my days off from work right now and I'm bored out of my mind!

I checked my rocker arm geometry yesterday afternoon. I went back an checked it again this evening. I had a light bulb come on in my head. If you take a white LED light for that matter most likely any light. Shine toward you from the backside of the rocker arm. Then put a sheet of copy white paper between the light an the rocker arm. You can see where the roller on the rocker is making contact on top of the valve as clear as day.

Nice Brodix heads, what heads are they CC wise and what do they flow are they setup for low to midrange or mid up. Looks like a large oval port.

Blue Rat 07-29-2012 12:39 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

They are 270cc suppose to be good from idle to about 6800. I am putting the Brodix HV 2007 intake on it.

mud.man.rj 07-29-2012 08:37 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Sound like nice heads, I notice the HV 2007 intake is rated for 3,500 to 7,000 but lists as a dual plane, is that the Rpm range you want, not sure what you are using it for, but looks major with those heads. Would like to hear that beast run.

Blue Rat 07-30-2012 09:24 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Air gap would have it on low end an lose it on mid an upper. Brodix would do just the opposite. We are talking about 20 HP difference. So I went with the Brodix. The HV 2007 is a single plane.

mud.man.rj 07-30-2012 11:55 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I figured it had to be a single plane with the range it is rated for, but the site I used said dual plane, I thought no must be a mistake especially with those heads too. Should really rip, what stall are you running with it and trans.

Going with a 400 turbo an getting a converter made for it. Probably a Neal Chance. Either 4.11's or 4.30's in the rear. Have not made up my mine yet on gear. AED cust carb.

I would like to have one of the six speed TCI tranny's but little to pricey for me.

So a Neil Chance convertor, nice , what inch convertor and what stall, prob a 10" I imagine so it ramps up a bit quicker. Hard to beat a T400 for strength, good choice.

I never did catch the chamber c.c. for a final compression ratio?

Blue Rat 08-26-2012 08:55 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

CC's on the CC is 118. With those heads expect to see around 10.8 to 11.1.

The intake an valve covers are on now. I would like to have got it running this summer but the funds are not like they were last summer.

I think most of us know about 'funds' issues.

I say you have done very well so far. I can see you have already spent a good amount of funds on the quality parts you are putting into this engine.

Thanks mud man,

The more I think about it the more I wish the timing cover was aluminum too.

mud.man.rj 09-13-2012 12:17 AM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I agree with you on the timing cover..but it will be covered up mostly by the water pump so will only see the top of it up close but not from further back. Still cool.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Well on call again this weekend have plans of bolting the balancer an water pump sometimes this weekend.

Ya being on call keeps you at home, I just got off the on call, nice 1 week of freedom till next weekend again. Having a car show here tomorrow, end of season fall show, will take some pic's. Cleaned mine up all night for tomorrow.

Curious.....why a 427?

Blue Rat 09-23-2012 02:25 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I built a car about 20 years ago with a 427 in it an wanted to build one again. No particular reason other than that reason.

Blue Rat 09-24-2012 08:07 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Pro street I thought about building a 496 but. I just wanted to see what I could get the truck to do with a similiar engine. But it ended up more than what I had in the long run. So we will see how it turns out.

mud.man.rj 09-24-2012 08:30 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Don't know why but always liked the sound of saying I have a 427, me I have a 454 but just doesn't sound the same as a 427, must be a not as common vette thing.

When I get ready to build the next one. It is going to be around 500 CID. I would like to get everything lined out with this one.

prostreetC-10 09-25-2012 01:35 AM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Funny you say that. I thought I was going to freshen up my 454 but I called Scat this morning. I can get a 496 rotator for about $1,200. Can't imagine the torque. There IS something cool about saying 427. That's because is was the sheet back in the day. Sumpin kinda kool about "496" too! ;o)

mud.man.rj 09-25-2012 08:12 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Hmmm, $1,200 hey for a 496 kit, like my 454 with 525hp now, but getting used to it already and only have about 500 miles on it, will get a bit more as it loosens up but do like the sound of a 496 compared to a 454. WAY to many ideas here sometimes.

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I run those same heads except i have the cnc version and 115cc chambers. Makes 10.5:1 with 18cc domes.
I run them on a 496 though. Took it out last weekend and played with air pressure in the slicks and went 7.08 @ 95.27. Still have alot to play with but i think these heads are really good. You should make some good torque

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I have since changed camshafts an put one of those fancy timing cover on Prostreet convinced me into buying. Also bought me a Neal Chance converter. Starting to get motivated on this project again.

So cool to look at this thread again and realize that I have those same heads sitting on a roller 496 out in the garage just waiting for the final touches. My last post on Sept last year, I wasn't sure if I was going to pull it off!

Blue Rat 05-14-2013 06:36 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

Pro street I know the feeling about getting it done. I am fixing to start working on the truck real soon.

Blue Rat 05-14-2013 08:43 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I bolted the aluminum water pump on just a little while ago. Oh an the block off plate for the fuel pump.

Blue Rat 06-08-2013 12:54 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

The transmission is done. It's a 400TH with billet drum an input shaft. Also a manual valve body with a aluminum tranny pan that hold two extra quarts. Got the converter too. Neal Chance 3500 converter. Have plans of pulling the engine in next couple weeks that is in it. The truck has a 12 bolt in it with 4.10's. But I do not see it living long behind this project. So going to go with another rearend looking at a Moser either way it is going to hurt $$$$.
Still got a ways to go on this project.

Blue Rat 06-15-2013 07:27 PM

Re: My BBC couple pictures.

I got everything loose an ready for the engine to come out. I got two motor mount bolts left to take out. Then the tranny comes out the bottom. Plan on pulling it tomorrow if that plan does not get derailed.

Then the cleaning process with start an try to make the wiring under the hood look a little better.
