Well, after a little misadventure (control arm on wrong side) I've got the front end, suspension, and steering linkage all back together. This also includes conversion over to 1972 3/4-ton disc brakes.

Here's the engine reunited with the chassis, along with all the front steering and suspension back in place.

With no one seeming to offer a line kit for a big block, 3/4T longhorn, I've just ordered a ton of stainless tubing and flare nuts from Summit, and when they arrive I'll go about making all new hard lines for fuel and brakes and so on.

A minor detail, but I scuffed and painted the shocks blue, since that's what I recall the originals having been. Not sure if its the exact shade or not, but close enough for my purposes!

Got the transmission (a TH200 for now) in place, mounted, and the driveshafts installed. I wound up converting all the u-joints to 1350 series and using a 1350 yoke. The front of our driveshafts are 1330, so that particular one is a 1330-1350 adapter. The TH400 replacement mount dropped right into place. I think my TH200 is about an inch and a half shorter than the 400, so a little more of the yoke is exposed, but it's a pretty beefy one and still has plenty of engagement so I'm not concerned about it.

I also did most of my hard lines. I used stainless, which isn't cheap (especially the fittings) nor easy to work with, but it will look nice for a long time.

I installed the rad support, shroud, fan and all of that so I could do the trans cooler and lines for it as well.

Shipped it off to Musclecar Restoration in Wisconsin for them to do the paint. They should get started on it in a couple of week, and then who knows how long it'll take them to finish it. But they do nice work, so I'm willing to wait!

Here's a couple of photos from the body shop so you can see about where it's at. Still targetting late Feb, we'll see what happens. That's not me in any of the photos, it's the guys at Musclecar Restorations in Wisconsin. In the first photo you can see them welding up the old Longhorn seams... my one major concession to originality, but it's what GM should have done and there was no major outcry when I asked on the forum about doing it, so I did it. I'm also taking out the travel-tank doors (which I believe to have been a dealer or aftermarket setup).

Original 1970 GM DK Blue. Color code 592, which is two tone, the blue part of which is 2169 in PPG/Ditzler plus metallic. Even checked the 1970 GM docs for that (and found the console is body color 2169 in my truck).

And to be doubly sure, two days ago I asked -them- what color code they're using (all I said was "stock color") and they said 2169, so it must be right I imagine!

Not sure how they spec how much metallic should be in it. Is that in the color spec by weight or something? Or is it the paint counter-man's pick?

I also just found out from my own photos that the fancy wood-grain tailgate trim for the Sierra Grande (and Super Cheyenne) just goes overtop the basic tailgate with the big embossed GMC letters. I didn't know that.
