After .. Dad is still working on the plug wires and we might change to an aluminum intake, so no antifreeze in it yet.
Remember, it's just going to be a driver so I'm happy with this. I think it looks great. :metal: |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Looks great! although...I'd be tempted to paint the underside of the hood too ;)

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I re-installed all the stuff we took off today. So, to answer your question, all total... maybe 10-12 man-hours plus 2 cans Chevy Orange, Flat Black, Semi-Gloss, Gloss Black, Grey Hi-Temp and a half dozen rolls of paper towels. NoNeck |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Amazing difference. I would say both time and money well spent. Great job on it.

Just some new pics. We're on to the outside now. I'm probably going to cut and buff it to see if I can bring out some of that natural 'patina' :D
Naa, the paint is a little checked and has some peel in it. I'm just going to hit it with 2000/2500 wet and some Finesse It on a buffer to see if I can bring it up a little. Just low speed, nothing crazy. I think she will shine up some. Dad has been cleaning on the interior too. It looks a lot better. Someone tried to fix the wrinkling door panels over the years and screwed some metal plate to the bottom edges of the doors (?) I'll fix that, no prob. It just looks kinda bad right now. I am going to pick up some decals for the air cleaner just to finish it off. Did they ever make a drop base for this type air cleaner? Anyway, here she is .. basking in some TN sunshine. |

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Question:
Should I stay around the house for my wife's purse party on Sat. or go to Dad's place and work on the GMC? Humm .. :D I'm basically trying to get the GMC running good while the weather is still too bad to paint on the 68. I haven't forgotten about it! |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I LOVE this truck!!!
Awesome work! You made a great choice on the ECE 4.5/6" drop kit. |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Thanks for the compliments guys! I really appreciate it
.. just to mention, the firewall was simply wiped down with Simple Green and paper towels. It looks like the original paint (to me) and has not been painted during the detail. It came out really nice. While we had the dist out of it I sat up in the engine bay and wiped it down. (at the same time found the casting numbers on the block :metal:) With a little more love and an altitude adjustment I think it will make a great daily driver I can add a little to here and there. Dad has been driving around town a little. He said it is doing really good. after the ride home I have a lot of confidence in it already! Pretty stoked about finding it. |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I would be as well... would love to take it off your hands. :)

More pics if you want to see. When we bought the truck it didn't have an antenna on it at all. There is a big gaping hole in the fender (bothering me pretty bad) So, the first thing we added was a new (original style repro) telescoping one. The ole cowl looks pretty clean! Dad found a piece of the original antenna retaining bolt that may have broken off over the years (?) Who knows .. but it looks a lot better. |
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Wow very nice truck. I love how your truck is coming along.
|
Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
Hey where did you get that antenna and how much did it cost? Looks great man, I love them factory black trucks, you don't see them around here.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop
I bought it off the forum actually, it came from GMC Pauls and the guy had bought it and just never used it. New, in the plastic wrap for $50 shipped. They are $79 at GMC Pauls, plus shipping. I offered $45, he countered at $50.
