Re: Softop installation no Holes

Ok update is as I have been noticing the faults in design and had to go back and redo some flaws. So I now have that under control but still not having much luck with finding fiberglass shop to do them and might have to do them myself. However I do have another person coming to assess the production mode in the next week or so. So now I am at the point were driving down the hyway at 60 mph does not produce any wind penetrating the seal Which I find impressive.havent drivin much in the rain yet but the little I have has not proven any leaks
The next hurdle is having warm enough weather so they cure properly cause wife wont let me do them in garage cause of the stink in the house. At the end of the day the product has to pass my quality assurance which is what's killing my time and investment but I don't want to see my name bashed on this site either so the wait as far as I"m concerned is no real concern in that testament. Once everything is good to go it will produce one piece per day just can't quite give you the starting date yet. Hope that gives you some enough info .

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Ok good news .... The adjustments to the mold worked out beautiful ...The other good news is I have a person to do a test piece for me to assess weather the product he puts out for me is good enough for you Also the price needs to be relatively in touch with my orig suggested price barring that I hope to start running parts as soon as he impresses the hell out of me .I was hoping the part could have been gel coated in the mold but its not working out quite that we'll .But who know maybe the new guy Will impress the hell out of me.regards Rob

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Is it fair to say the first Header goes out to the first person on the list ?

These parts will be shipped with out holes and no snaps installed because there are differences between one Blazer to the next with respect to the softopper snaps. Also the main mount holes are easy to put in while clammed into place .Each one will be tested on My Blazer for fit and I will have a return policy but still need to work that out until further notice the Headers will be $260.00 plus actual shipping cost There are two nearly ready to be shipped. I suspect early next week

Re: Softop installation no Holes

The only issue i have with my soft top is the rain that comes in by the vent widow does this mold take care of that gap.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

First off I don't want to start a frenzy cause the fibre glass guy leaves me with impression he's not crazy about doing the product so intensely .Second I had to do some work on the part even he produced so things will gradually get going but I still might find pretty quickly that I still need another fibre glass guy.
As I said I have two pieces for sale now and I need to make some decisions on whether to keep going with present guy or keep looking .Also whoever is the lucky Persons to purchase the first two will have to be the testament of the product . No sense in rushing out ten if there going to get bad reviews !
Now I heard another issue might be shipping due to not being original part to The Blazer This is becoming a real headache for me sometimes because I barely have the time to prepare and repair. Another issue is where do I start on the list.? The first entry ,or the first commenting on they will take one .I just really don't want to anger anyone and want to do it fairly without getting into trouble over it.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

No worries mate! Ur doing it the right way. I will be patient. Maybe a solution to sell a few you have is when u have a couple to sell start a new thread in the for sale side and go from there. I would like to think most everybody understands this isn't the easiest thing to do and relize your trying your best to make a quality product and be fair. If someone does get upset don't let it bother you. :) keep up the good work. .....hakunah matada=no worries.

No worries here, just do the best that you can do. I believe by the time it gets to me, most of the kinks will be worked out!

Re: Softop installation no Holes

We all just appreciate the effort to share your creation with us all. Do the best you can and we will be patient. It's not like we would have one anyway without your efforts and I think we all agree that it's best to go through the process to make sure it's right from the start. That said, I'm looking forward to trying this thing out!

Right on, I'm happy to wait until you are satisfied. If you need a guinea pig to test it out just send me a PM, although shipping to the East Coast might be a pain in the rear.

Thank you for all the great progress you've made so far! :metal:

Hi Rob,

It's me Ray, I finally purchased the 1972 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with 13,100 miles yesterday. Bringing it home tomorrow. Ordered a new steel gas tank, comes with new straps and sending unit $250, won't see for a few weeks. Have to get a new battery, and go through the entire drivetrain, change all fluids.
I would like to come over and check out the soft top fiberglass piece you came up with, will need one for the Jimmy.

Talk to you soon
Just trying to post a few pictures of the Jimmy, it's clean.

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Hi you Doin Ray . I got you covered on the softop header .I think I have made it as far as I can go on the farm out project .Its time to payoff the fiber glass guy and put them on the press .It looks like two weeks from now I will have a dozen pieces . I picked up another one today And Im quite happy with the product and the newest fibre glass guy is working out great he's a real gem, 35 years of experience and he's offered up some good advice in the production end .Was trying to do smooth on top side and under but it wasnt possible to do ,Each topper might have different mounting postiers ,So we decided that its easiest to install a thicker wind deflection after the install . Only concern now if the life span of mold .Any one who wants one should be prepared in the next couple weeks I should be able to supply a dozen and might have to another mold after that .Also had fibre glass guy look at the lift hatch and told him that LMC has one that doesn't seem to fit very well .Again I have to build a mold a go down the same road I just travelled .will look at it again once this project has bared fruit for every one here ............Regard Rob

Re: Softop installation no Holes

While We're waiting for parts to show up might be a good time to do some PR work for the fibreglass guy .while at his shop last week I noticed piles and piles of moulds Model "A" s to 55 Chevy nose to yes Chevy truck 'SS' hood . Evan a complete tilting front clip for our trucks.
I have an idea. My wife hates it when I get these ideas. But was contemplating making a custom chalet top for the blazer,I would like one that leaves my role bar in place and it needs to be a pop up and a bunk on top of role bar to windshield and to keep it light weight or liter than the old orig ones anyway .If A guy could buy a nice shell what would it be worth to be reasonable for purchase .Anyway just growing this out there for some entertainment value at the very least and maybe a good pruduct at the end of the day

Re: Softop installation no Holes

Wondering if they are all reserved? Bought a 72 blazer a while back and hopefully picking up from the paint shop this week. I have a soft top new laying in the basement waiting for install. I didnt even realize Id have to screw into the header. So glad I saw this. It would make me so sick to my stomach to drill numerous holes in a freshly painted blazer.

Also thanks to everyone on this forum. I have had several 71 had and 72 pickups and finally found a rust free blazer and had it shipped out of CA. Always the go to place for information. Thank you to the site admin and all those who contribute.
