You rebuilt the manual box your self ?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

no i bought a rebuilt core and completely disassembled it so i could powder coat the housing to match the frame. then reassembled so technically i just assembled it but it is all new and refurbished parts.

Looks like a different water pump & intake also.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

first pic was from the guy i bought the brackets from and his motor is a 350 with mounting holes in the head and my 327 doesn't have them. thats why i needed to modify.

got my chassis totaly apart yesterday. I hope to have this powdercoated within the next month. the front end is already coated so it will just be the frame, diff and some other small odds and ends and then i can reasemble!

I removed the cab corners and rockers yesterday. Then body shop i used must have lined these up without the doors on cause they were a country mile out. good thing the new floor went in good. anyway i am unsure if i am going to try this or have another shop look at it. kind of discouraged. well see what the cost is to redo these and that will determine it.

well decided to get compfortable with the welder this weekend. The passenger rocker panel fit very nicely with only one incision needing to be made. The driver is a lot worse of a fit. Needed some surgery. still not finished it. It is still a nicer gap and fit than the body shop made and the drivers door no longer rubs in the front. I think i will get a different shop to do the cab corners. if the rockers like up now surely a shop wont get the cab corners wrong again.....

I got my 67 chevelle ss steering wheel today I am thinking about in my truck. What do you guys think. Its like a perfect home for my super custom horn button. the wheel will be red when all is said and done but the black sure does look sharp.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

More great work!, sorry about the bad work for big $$$ on the cab. I love the steering wheel too, I thought about a early 60s Impala wheel because they are just so cool but the Chevelle wheel looks right for our trucks.

Well as luck has it got my frame to powdercoat today. I now have everythng done now and can assemble the chassis. Got my drums this morning. I had these springs on the drums zinc plated as i believe they are original. what are they for? anyone know.

67chevy1series 11-15-2012 02:53 PM

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

i believe the srpings are to disapate heat... dont know if i spelled that right but supposably the heat transfers out of rht drum and into the spring and then the springs get cooled by air while driving. its kinda like the fins on some of the drums you buy from o'reilys and stuff.

My 56 Chevy had springs on the out side of the drums , I was told it was for damping.

It is a shame to have to sand blast that frame again to power coat. Power coating needs bare metal to stick. If their is something I don't know please enlighten me please. anyway good luck.

Member "LOC DOC" remade an original gm extinguisher tag for me and did an excellent job. He is the man to talk to if ou need a obsolete tag or decal made.
