I always like the looks of the Century wrecker bodies on the 92-’03 medium duties...

...Look at this beauty! I think I got these pictures from ebay or an old thread here somewhere?

Yeah,I have to agree. Both are equal in a level of modern style, yet not removed from the past. I would love to pick up a 3500HD 4wd conversion.
I think those medium duties are some great looking trucks. I've always felt the styling on 88-98 C10-30s were in a way the return cycle of 67-72 styling. No,they don't look the same, but they both have clean, rounded, smooth, trim,no BS styling. I also feel the 67-72s were the return cycle of the Advance Designs, for pretty much the same reasons.
Now that orange 60 or 61?...SWEET!!!

Going over tomarrow to try and make a deal on this realy rough C-50 wrecker. i should not do it, its more work than I need, has a GMC v6 partial swapped in ( front mount is not adapted so it has a piece of chain wrapped around the block ) booms are cracked and some of the winch gear is broken, but Dang they just look so tough and beastly I am afraid it will go to scrap if i dont save it. Pictures when the deal goes through and I drag it to its new home. ( Did i mention the flat black paint aplied with a broom?) on the plus side it Does have the Big back window which my heavy Duty C- 60 does not ;-)

Did I do that?

A while back in this thread, when Paws72 showed the green beast,I mentioned my friend Dale's wild recovery rig. It was originally built for the Navy. The 4wd conversion is Marmon Herrington. He moved the boom from behind the cab to rear of truck for better reach. This things a mega beast! Check out the custom made aluminum grille:

I always had a hard time explaining why I had my 1971 C50......until I started calling it a toy. No more justifying it, it is strictly for FUN.

I like the looks of the euro.Wished I could've bought Greenie. It run good and worked good. I run it one night we had a bad big rig wreck a long side a 50 ton wrecker. Greenie looked ruff but the a/c did work.I know it did have a 8 cyl diesel in it.

I kept trying to get the boss to fix it up a little but we kept putting off til I had to leave. Plus we were working on a Dodge 3500 to make a conventenal out of.

Boy did he regret that one. we put a Holms 450, I think, on it. Wore the rear springs quick. I told him it would but he thought defferent.

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

It's been rare to see a Dodge wrecker around here. They just started selling them the last couple years at a local dealer (tow/roll back dealer)

PAWS 72 03-09-2013 02:50 AM

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

It was a 3500 to begin with. The PO was towing a horse trailer(empty) and it got over on it's side real hard. we took 2 other cabs and used what we needed. The patches were stronger than factory. I tried to find my pics that I took but couldnt find them.

Imagine being cut on the drivers windsheid frame half way,3inches up on pass.side, and all the spot welds on the floor board and some on the rockers.I thought the wedsite was still up and running but its not.I was going to pull pics from there. You couldnt tell were the patches were tho.Everything lined up perfect.

I'm liking these Top Kicks more and more as time goes by. The front end is like none other and so is the name. Love it or hate it,they stand out and ain't gittin' no newer

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

Even though I prefer the older style, they are like-able trucks. One thing though, that is not actually a Top Kick, but a Brigadier.

The main reason, or one of the reasons anyway, for the change was because of the Radiator. The new style was able to have a Larger Radiator which was more called upon with the different engines being offered.

We should post a Top Kick picture. I would if I knew how to, lol. Same thing, even though I prefer the older style, they are also like-able trucks.

That is one nice heavy truck. Most likely Detroit powered.

You caught me on that. I saw this in a thumbnail and I can't see those tiny things too good, and it said Top Kick under it from where ever I got the picture. But,Top Kicks had the square lights under the grille and the cabs were same as light trucks. They even looked more weird. But,like I said about that "Brigadier",these are looking better to me now. I didn't like them at all when they came out.

Ok,a Top Kick dumpvvv

Nice example of a Heavy Medium. It happens to me too. The other day a guy showed a picture of his GMC 5000 with it labeled "63" in the post. I complimented him on it.

...it had a Flat Windshield.

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

Looks like a pretty good '65 C-30. I could use that around here. I've got one similar to it that I use as a yard truck, but it is not a GM product. Mine has a Holmes 440 on it.

Bill

Peanutbutter 04-08-2013 01:47 PM

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

if I'm not mistaken someone has already stole the holmes badges off the side of this one, does this look like a 440 or did they make a smaller one?

C10 - C90 Bill 04-08-2013 08:19 PM

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

It is definitely the size of a 440, and is a Single Boom like a 440, but it has a different style Boom than mine does. My Wrecker Bed is a '69 Model. Look for a small ID Tag on the right side up near the cab.

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

It'll be a week or so before I can get back up there, big storm comming in right now, like to get up there so I can pick up my C70. Want to pull the browne out so I can see what size it is, I'll do more research on the wrecker then.

special-K 04-10-2013 09:09 AM

Re: MD/HD Wreckers

My Wreckmaster has that type of boom. Others used them, too. Mine is the only one I've seen with the straight side top bed, though, even other Wreckmasters. Look on the fairlead, mine says Wreckmaster on it,
