Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Frame is finally swapped. I used the original rear suspension on the donor frame with new Energy Suspension bushing as well as new body mount bushings. Went pretty easy but took about 7 hours.

Thanks, found it, for that price I just wonder how good the air filter is, but I guess for that price you could use a K&N, Did you ask them if they had them in Black? |

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
2.5" exhaust is plenty for the LS motors unless you have a lot of HP. Nice build by the way.
May I make a suggestion on your cold air intake. 90's model caddy air box. Seal up the factory opening and drill a 4" hole in the bottom of it. Buy one 4" ninty and 2 coupling from Lowes. Drill a 4" hole through the core support and bottom of air box then install the coupling from the front of the truck then the ninty and the other coupling through the hole in the box.:chevy: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...with_ninty.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...4_cold_air.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ir_opening.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...r_coupling.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...ld_air_box.jpg http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/.../DSCF03551.JPG |
Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
No real progress, i messed around and bought a daily driver yota and of course lift, tires and now a camper shell has sort of delayed progress. slowly getting back to it though. The engine and tranny is in but thats about as far as ive made it.
Andy - I like the airbox idea. May have to hit up the pull-a-part once i get it fired off. |
Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Some progress. Got the alternator rebuilt and the belt drive on. I ordered a few odd and ends for the front clip and hope to have it reinstalled this weekend.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Any update? I am about to yank mine out to do a swap.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Yes and no on the progress. The complete engine and tranny is in as well as the cooling system. I still need to finish up the wiring and do the fuel systems then the drive shaft, exhaust and the tune. Its stalled out while i get through Christmas, then game on again first of the year. It at least looks like a complete Suburban now.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
The A/C runs off of its own belt on the truck motors. All I did was remove the compressor and bracket for it.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Any tips on how to remove those 2 stubborn plugs on the transmission?

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Basically they're glued in. I've heard a heat gun will soften it up. I got lucky and mine came out without too much trouble.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
What cam did you install in the 5.3 (part number, lift/duration) ? We are doing the same swap in a 72 LWB C10. Waiting on suspension parts to come in from Porterbuilt, figured I could do some motor work while we wait !
Thanks ! |
Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Wow. Been a while since Ive been on here. Finally getting back to work on the Suburban after almost a year with little to no progress. Ive ordered the fuel pump, and will be ordering a new tank and sending unit from LMC and will be using Dorman nylon fuel lines. Ive managed to get all the cooling in and plumbed up as well as the inner fenders. Thats been it for the last year as the remaining project fund ended up buying kayaks and a gun or two. Im back on it now.

Re: '72 Suburban - 2005 L59 5.3/4L60 swap
Been a while, and progress has been slow, but this project still LIVES!
It now runs, and moves under its own power. Well, from 1 carport to the other. Ill post some updates next week when I actually get some time off. |
