Funny you say that - several of my friends (from Texas) say it reminds them of HS shop classes. I'm originally from Oklahoma and we had exhaust fans but they weren't as big. I got it because we are going to use the spray in foam insulation and felt there was a need to be able to exhaust any welding or truck exhaust fumes quickly.

We got Barnasaurus heated up with power yesterday so she's alive! I had my wife stand by the front man-door when I flipped the switch to the fan - It was funny seeing her hair being pulled into the shop.

Should see some rock going up (wainscot) next week and the spray in insulation the following week.

Thanks! - Yes shade is a very valuable commodity - especially during a Texas summer.

More progress over the last couple of weeks. We’ve got the septic system in place, power hooked up, spray in insulation applied, and wainscot should be completed today. Still lots to do – hoping this thread isn’t boring the heck out of everyone.

Not boring at all. Your place looks amazing. I really like that last picture with the hay rake in front. Love the stone you chose for the wainscoat.

Almost time to move in and get to working on projects!

Do you have your lift yet?

Daddy'O 05-20-2014 01:07 PM

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus

Thanks everyone!

The progress has been extremely slow the last two weeks while my contractor is getting some other jobs wrapped up. So this is why I've not updated the thread in a while.

Karl - I hope to have the lift installed by late July or sometime in August.

We did get the wainscot completed. Since no work was getting done on the shop I decided to do some work in the shop. I got Nancy out, gave her a wash, and finally got the new tailgate band I bought in February from a forum member installed.

Here are some pictures. I will post up more as things progress.;)

Very nice 71 there Wayne. It reminds me a lot of my 72. I love the Ochre/White two tone.

The barn is really looking great also.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks Tom! I hope to get the instrument cluster you did installed in Nancy soon. I know it will look great! Will post up pics when installed.

I am kind of bumming out since things are going soooooooooo slowly at this time. I have to remind myself that all good things come to those to wait.......well I'm waiting...Lol ;)

This is like Where's Waldo!! ..... hmmm...Weather vane! And the mandatory Texas Star!!! That always makes a big building better!!! Hopefully whoever put it up didn't have a problem with heights!

Thats a good looking building you got there!! for a 40x60, the lean-tos make it looks like a giant!! Whats the total foot print? Great work!!

Daddy'O 06-11-2014 11:48 AM

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus

You guys are good!

That’s 22+ feet to the upper peak so if you’re afraid of heights then you don’t need to be up there. I could’ve, would’ve done it myself if I hadn’t twisted my darn ankle Saturday evening. I can’t believe I was able to help with the floor covering Sunday as bad as it hurt. But climbing a ladder and bending my ankle to remain upright on the roof pitch would have been unbearable. Today is the first day I have and ankle instead of a swollen unrecognizable appendage.

40x60 main building

12x30 east side for bath/break area/mechanical area

24x24 south side carport

12x30 west side covered area

So that’s 3696 covered square feet, crap that’s a lot. I hadn’t actually put it down on paper and added it up until now.

Thanks for the compliments! Interior trim work and primer should be done today. Should have water hooked up today or tomorrow. The propane tank is going to be set next Monday and the cabinets will be here on the 23rd.

Thanks for the kind words on the shop.

I’ve not updated in a while because things were moving so slowly for daily or even weekly updates. We’ve got all the utilities in place and grade work complete. I still need to get some sod put in but that will be a couple of more weeks down the road.

One thing I always thought would be cool to have is a circle driveway – Well, we finally have one. I will let the base rock get settled in and will add some crushed granite next spring. Here are some pics (trying to mimic a panoramic view) – hope you enjoy.

Exterior shot of the bath and break area with completed paint and trim – I think we are going to add some color here, maybe a battleship gray at the bottom with a red strip separating the gray and white?:

More updates comming soon....;)

Re: Our new shop - AKA Barnasaurus

Off topic here but I thought it interesting enough to share. We had a small rodeo here at the ranch while the electric crew was doing their finish work. A bull was in a holding pen getting ready to go to another pasture because his job here was done for the year. Well, evidently he didn’t want to go. Now this bull isn’t real big – probably 1700 to 1800 pounder super gentle Charolias breed. Without warning he decided to make a jump for freedom. Fortunately no one, including the bull were injured. The only casualty was a 15 year old panel. We were able to get him loaded up later without incident. I guess the trick was he needed more company (let a few of the cows in the pen with him) as he loaded up in the trailer without any prodding.

Ok – back on topic.

Here are pics of the finished bath and break areas. My wife had the green light on colors, fixtures, etc. and I must say I am quite impressed with how it turned out.

I needed an antenna mast for a HD TV antenna and for a radio receiver/modem for internet. My friend Les and I came up with an idea and after picking through the scrap (treasure) pile he fab’ed it together a couple of weeks ago. I think this is the second unofficial project in the shop. Here it is waiting for the paint to dry. We will mount it to the shop in the near future.
