Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I'm sad to see that Advanced Design Engineering has gone out of business after an accident. Looks like the company is up for sale, which is unfortunate.
I planned to purchase their engine mounts, steering kit, and transmission crossmember and build the rest. Looks like I'm out of luck now. Does anyone know of anyone selling any of these ADE parts? |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Here's who I am planning on buying from.

Looking good blaze! Keep it up. Do you have a warmer place to work on it in the winter?

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I had a pretty productive day today.
I pulled the old 235 6Cyl out of the 3/4 ton chassis and sold it along with the 4spd and my 3 on the tree trans. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psntlowzan.jpg Later this evening I spent all the money I made today on some C5 Corvette callipers and a set of decent rear fenders for the 49' C5 calipers http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc6pyg9df.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pses2qunsd.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslfu35csq.jpg Fenders: http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskajg5ugu.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmjxoduf1.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvtfshs8s.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2jd7mgdy.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psehrihwft.jpg :metal: |

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
your airbar looks to have fared about as well as mine haha. why did ART use such wimpy powdercoat on these?
I had another used one for my last truck and ended up making everything new except the diff mount. I am thinking this one will go down that same slope. Luckily, if you need new bushings (you need new bushings by the way, those rubber ones ride great but are not forever parts) they are only about $150 bucks TOTAL from ART (you wont need the bumpstops, I was making special snubbers for the tilt bed and long soft ones for the notch) http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/i...pswkyk3tzc.png that is the threaded parts too, so you can chase the bars with a tap or I just made new bars. I have the bar stock dims if you need them. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Your rear fenders are like mine. I guess it's the "scratched by a barbed-wire fence" look.
That patina is hard to duplicate. I like it. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
This will be fun to watch. Keep it up.

The nice thing about this AirBar is that it was free. The s10 I removed it from got converted to static before I sold it allowing me to rape it of all its air ride components. Even after doing all that I still made a few grand on it once it was sold! I wouldn't use this kit if it wasn't free. It's a pretty ****ty kit IMO |

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I made it back home for the holidays and pulled my 6.0L Blazer out of the garage. It was my very first vehicle and I drove it throughout high school with the original carbed 2.8 V6. The LS has been a wicked upgrade and I doubt I'll ever sell it.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
That's a nice clean blazer. I too cut my teeth on an 84 blazer with a V-8 just after high school....it was a lot of fun.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Thanks dudes!
Sorry for the lack of progress on this rig over the last little bit here. I'm still collecting parts and pieces but I made some big progress in the last little while. I bought another set of box sides, rear fenders, and a passenger side running board for a decent price so not I basically have 2 complete trucks when it comes time to sell the left overs it should be a bit easier. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshaxwrk6l.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxilbtjpe.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmkyb6uo9.jpg I scored a set of 17x10 Foose Nitrous 2 piece wheels off the local classifieds for cheap. The plan is to buy a front pair and run blazer brakes rather than the C5 vette brakes. Should look pretty gnarly with some big meat out back. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1djg9zq0.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps2ovytueb.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxrl9c5ou.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnxgxa1zv.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psyx12q4oy.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqdyoitjk.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pst3wsjjd1.jpg I also bought a couple 5.3 LS engines. Ones in a 2008 with factory 243 heads and 4L60e trans and the other is an older 5.3 with a DBW TB it came with a computer and MAF for mega cheap so I scooped it up. Neither have a harness which is too bad but I'm sure I can find one eventually. From my understanding the truck 243 heads flow thr same as the corvette 243s except they don't have the sodium filled valves. Correct me if im wrong. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps6son3kz0.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psn9vn6yqy.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqypnx6fw.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psnbcfelrz.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psi2z04thh.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psu2f7fiki.jpg I also got this desk with the deal. I plan to put a metal top and use it in the garage. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psk4osv3hd.jpg Older 5.3 http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9zbcgl3f.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psusrq3p0j.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps9tlzhr8r.jpg I'm still looking for some good mounts for the LS engine in the S10 chassis. With AD engineering going out of business I'm at a loss. I'm not sure I want to go with Code 504s brackets due to the design of them. If anyone has some ADEngineering LS brackets lying around please let me know so I can buy them off you!! If you have them and don't want to sell them I would greatly appreciate some measurements taken of them so I can try to replicate them. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
really gathering some parts. the hunt is always fun, if you have the loot. for the mounts, honestly I'd make your own. Or atleast buy the plates of ebay, that would save you some time. then just fab the rest.

nice score on the parts, you'll def need some of them. as for the seatbelts, I'd highly recommend 3 point belts. nice score on the drill press.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Nice parts!! A good drill press is a great asset.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I have the same kit. I only bought it because at the time I had no electric in garage. But really I don't mind the kit. I actually prefer this style of set up because if you have problems with your rear end, swap it out in a couple hours and you are back on the road. No worrying about welding link bars onto the rear, just not a fan of that.

I would def reccomend a bolt on kit to the axle, mainly if you need to swap the rear end like you said. Ready to see this thing together!

I really need a garden shed to get my lawn and garden equipment and other odds and ends out of my garage to clear up my workspace. It's getting pretty full in there hah. |
Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
I don't see anything wrong with a bolt in kit if it works for you. I think lack of space is everyone's dilemma. My truck is just over 17' long and my garage is 20'.

Re: Project: Patina (1949 Chevrolet 1434)
Not much to update on this rig
Got some 4x4 tube to start making cab mounts with. I cant really make any until I decide where I want my cab to sit. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psbqauf795.jpg http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psglknx0lm.jpg New (to me) wheels http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrelkk1mx.jpg Hope to tuck this hard when it's all said and done http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...psjyiboikr.jpg I bought a 2001 2500HD 2WD 6.0L for cheap and it has been taking quite a bit of my time. I've been searching down some electrical gremlins which are driving me crazy. Its a full load truck with leather and power everything. Cant decide if I should leave it this height or drop it and get Detroit Steel Wheels to drill me some 8 lug steelies for it. http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m...pscz68ja00.jpg |
