how do you make one longer?

So, just to clarify: my '69 K-10 LWB does indeed have a 2-piece driveshaft, 3 u-joints w/ a carrier bearing in the middle. I can't speak to what any other truck might or might not have, but mine has it. It cannot be said that no 4wd from the era has a 2-pc shaft.

Re: Did the 1/2 ton short beds come with a two piece driveshaft?

Right. I would never say that. I have seen long bed 4wd 67-72s with 2pc driveshaft. Just saying I have owned quite a few and they all had 1pc.

so I just picked up another "long bed drive shaft" and this one is too short for my short bed, LOL

note yet the different style center bracket

my guess is that the donor truck had a differential with a longer (I think it's called) third member

that or maybe the truck had a Dana diff, I think the seller pointed out a bunch of trucks on his lot that actually had Dana rear differentials

any thoughts on this folks?

you may be onto something there, that picture of the crossmember with the trailing arms attached and the bracket that the steady bearing would bolt to,is identical to what's in my 72 truck, with a Dana 60 and leaf springs.

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that the U joint cup sizes were much larger than my 1/2 tons 12 bolt's and even larger than the ones on the 1 ton drive shaft I picked up earlier

and here's a pic of what claims to be a Dana 60 on the Internet, note the longer snout

thank you so much, you are a Rock Star, and man that rig looks clean, the exhaust looks beautiful, did you do that yourself? (lie if you have to, ha ha)

ha-ha.thanks.the truck is very clean, the best one i've ever had.it's from California and was in storage from 1999 til just a couple years ago.i can't lie,i'm no good at it.mom always said, tell 1 lie and you have to tell 10 more to cover it up.i'm not that smart.i did built the front part of the exhaust, found mufflers that would work with 2 1/5 inlets and 2 1/4 outlets but ordered 2 1/4 tailpipes from Waldron's exhaust in Michigan.i've used them several times, the local parts stores have nothing, can't get much.i emailed Walker and they no longer make the pipes.very happy with Waldron's stuff.take care.

I don't mean to brag but I just picked up my 5th wrong drive shaft today, lol

this one actually had a '69 tag on it, and my chassis is technically a '69 (the truck is registered as a '71 but let's not split hairs, ha ha) I realize this one comes from a 3/4 ton truck aka a C20 however that just means the shaft would be beefier if you will that should not constitute a different length per say, if you follow my logic two trucks parked side by side, for example a long bed C10 and a long bed C20 would be the same length, no? assuming both had GM 12 bolt butts

this is soooo Goldilocks: this one's too short, this one's too long...

I used the Greg-O-matic drive shaft spreadarizer 3000 to divide it in two just for funnsies, mucking up the fine threads in the process

I also media blasted the yet another variety center support donut mounting bracket plate just for show and tell [and cause I finally got my media master blaster setup where I can see inside it, hee hee, so I am media blastin' everything in sight]

not sure if this is stock or not, maybe one of youz can verify it please [we're looking at you Mr. Keith, ha ha]

One of my buddies at the race track had a T shirt that said:

"That's sketchy even by my standards".

I'll have to see if I can get a picture of it.

Gregski. I have a 1968 Longbed 307 4-Speed truck that came with that style bracket. I was going to post a picture of it in this thread earlier, but looked through my pictures and couldn't find a good one of it installed.

The problem with your logic is a C20 would not have come from the factory with a 12 bolt. It would have had an Eaton or a Dana

Here is a picture and length of the rear half of the 2 piece drive shaft off my short box. I cut down the front so I do not have the original length to share.

so after all that 5th time was indeed the charm, with the help of a buddy we figured out how to mount this bracket, it actually mounts on the transmission side of the trailing arm cross member, I literally had to drill the two holes through the dirt and grime cause they were totally and completely clogged

thank you so much could you post a pic of your center support donut and bracket, a friend of mine and I have a theory of what the 1/2 tons should look like, compared to the 3/4 ton style
