Re: Shark's '74 just a fun truck
Thanks!
Other day I noticed a small drip of trans fluid on the garage floor. Looked like the speedo great housing was leaking. Perhaps there's an o ring in there. I slid it out a bit, small dab of rtv, so far drip is stopped but I'll have to fix it correctly. Also a few weeks ago, found the fuel regulator was dripping gas from the top! Fire hazard geez. Snugged up the Allen bolts on top and put appears to be ok. |

Got the second tank out. One strap was completely gone lol
The sender on the driver's side was reading 1k ohms, so hoping that's the root cause of the weird gas gauge.... Cleaned and grounded everything, and a coat of fresh paint |

So far this is the only rust that needs to be fixed. Right under the footwell area. Both sides. Was plugged with mud.

Where did you order your carpet kit from and were you pleased with fitment and overall quality? Your truck is looking good!

ACC. 19396162. Fit was very good, little bit of trimming near the doors that's it. Nice thick backing on it. |

Dropped off my seat at a local guys place to have recovered. Will be nice to have foam fixed and not have moving blankets over a grods stinky seat.
Also have a bad leak. I was hoping it was a hose, but turns out it's a water pump. New one should be here soon. |

Re: Shark's '74 just a fun truck
Local guy reupholstered the seat & fixed the foam, turned out great. Pics shortly once it's back in the truck.

Finished with the gas tanks.
Pulled up the carpet again to clean up my stereo wiring. Had a bad alternator whine that followed the rpm, removed a way to long RCA with a couple short pieces, and cleaned the ground. All good and quiet now. Local guy, Rick, recovered my seat and fixed the foam. Turned out well. |
Re: Shark's '74 just a fun truck
Truck is happy with the new water pump, no more coolant drips everywhere.
Pass side gas tank/gauge appears to be working decently. Driver's side(brand new sender, tested pre-install), pegs over full. Need to check wiring again.... Arg. |
Re: Shark's '74 just a fun truck
Success!!
Multiple issues with the drivers side wiring from sender. Where it passes through the frame rail, it was pinched, possible open or short to frame. Fixed that. While I was putting tank back in the connector came off. Luckily you can reach it just barely, clipped it on to the post on the sender, could feel it was loose. Tightened it up with needle nose, and now it's solid, and my gas gauge works!!! Also removed the hood insulation, it was 1/2 falling down. And finally, front wheel bearing nut needed about an 1/8th of a turn to tighten and remove some play. |

Had a couple days of bad luck.
First speeding ticket in 20 years. Sheesh. Not even a warning. Yesterday ran out of gas, again... The guage is fixed I think. But it appears to be pulling gas from passenger tank when the switch is set to drivers. Anyone ever have a faulty selector valve that pulls fuel from both sides? This is second time that I thought the pass tank had gas in it, but it was empty. Driver's side seems to be working ok. |
