The droning is the result of running an LS motor with no crossover, small bullet resonator/mufflers, and a sharp-turning exit that lands directly behind the cab. To eliminate the drone, I need to go mandrel bent, add a crossover, and possibly change the muffler style. |
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
I meant the sound waves bouncing off the fender. But that is some great info for when I get my LS fitted and the exhaust run.
|
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Well if you could dye the exhaust, the actual angle of the exhaust points past the fender. I'm sure it can echo a bit, but you don't really hear "body" drone, its purely the sorta-unusual sound of the shape and type of exhaust.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Got ya! Thank you for the answers.:metal: I really want to do side exit exhaust, but I'm hesitant.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
That's exactly what I'm looking at. They look really awesome!

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
those bulkhead exhaust ends are just what I've been looking for. Do you have more info on them?

Some of them have an internal "flapper" that swings closed when there isn't exhaust pressure coming out. Its a boat thing, but on a car it rattles and pings. Also, some hard-mount to the body, which means that you need a good mount/flex point in your exhaust or it will transfer a ton of vibration back into the body. |
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Here are some that I found. Reasonable price, I wonder about heat shield though.

A WILD project we did. This is another Plasti-Dip special, but we use a VERY special thermochromatic pigment....BCUZ HOTWHEELSCAR!

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Finally snagged my new-to-me heads from a friend. They are good ole 317's, but they've been milled a tad dropping the chamber by about 2cc's. They have also been fully worked...and I mean freakin worked...by a 40+ year veteran and instructor at S.A.M.
They have new gm valves with a full valve job, topped with Brian Tooley Racing platinum dual springs and Titanium retainers and all the other locks/seals/etc. I'm tempted to add new rockers as well when we open it up to eliminate the needle bearing concern. We ran and proved these heads on our fbody for a while and made excellent power. http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9511b2b8.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psb0cd10b7.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psdc9b4f07.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps91c55321.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psb1cd5465.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psef47c307.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6cfe0d0d.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psbf678f48.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5f6a2102.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psf2022e19.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psfb7cd4ef.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9d84ce2f.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ad109a1.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps87d685cd.jpg http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psde7fbdcb.jpg |

A followup to the ThermoChromatic dip video. A demo of the final result and playing around with the finish

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
What paint is on the truck now? I'm really digging the satin theme

Are you asking what type of paint it is or am I reading something wrong??? |
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Yes sir....what type of paint.
|
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Its good ole' 3 stage paint, prime-base-clear. You'd paint it the same as any other car, but we used a satin clear (regular clearcoat with flattening agent).

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
got it! Thanks!

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Digging the truck and the vids. The heads look really good! Cool to see someone else from the fbody crowd.

I'm fabbing a 9inch rear for it, and we are doing a full pro touring suspension in prep for next year. |
Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Awesome! (The car not the damage lol) Was it the stock torque arm? 9" will be nice. I've only ran the Moser 12 bolts, but the easy gearing changes with the 9" would be nice. It's been a while since I've done anything over on tech, but my user name is CHRIZ28 over there. Never did anything pro-touring, would be a blast though! Wanted to go more pt with the Firehawk, just ended up selling it. Would love to go pt with the 66. Just way more places to play on a drag strip around than autocross or road course around here.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Very cool man. Here are some pics from the fiasco at Gingerman. I'll have to get my buddies cell phone pics that showed the sheared arm. You can barely see it in the side up picture. You can see where the wheel collided into the wheel well and ripped the undercoating off, and the rim scored it slightly above the shock. We were surprised this didnt' shred a tire or rip it off the rim...it was fine?

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq
Good looking car! I'll always have a soft spot for 4th gens. Time to get some suspension under that car for sure! I had really good luck with a spohn subframe mounted torque arm with two loops. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Oh, and the truck too lol. Do you post over on tech?

Despite my mag credentials, and his (the t/a title'd owner) being a tuner and mech engineer for an OEM of GM...folks don't like to listen to advice or opinions that didn't fit the crowd. We took engine dyno sheets from a cam we spec'd over their to share with some folks looking for advice. Despite hard #'s, we got **** on by posters because we second-guessed Pat G (and you know exactly how thats recieved over there). He re-spec'd a cam that matched ours in all but 1 dimension, and they fanboyed hard. I just can't do it over there. Other than here, I like YellowBullet, since at least the poo-slinging is omni directional, and anyone with #'s or slips can make their own respect. |
