I hated to give that old truck up , Big Cummins Turned up to 600 hp and an 18 but that old girl had done a ton of work and was starting to show her age .

Boss had to get loud to get me out of it and moved to an anteater of all things . 430 hp 9 speed . 93 T 600 ,I didn't want any part of that ugly truck . Then I drove it . you could turn a corner without stopping and backing up . If you needed to see the front corner you could raise up out of the seat and see it . didn't have to raise the hood to go from heat to air . Stacks partially behind the cab so you could keep an eye on flatbed and lowboy loads better . The 430 was ok but I found the 9 speed was fine until you got in soft ground , had to "Heat " clutch a bit to move the heavy stuff .

Still love the looks of that old truck but the T 600 sure made my job easier and a lot less fuel stops needed

Yea, they don't turn well at all, I love the looks of them though. The ones I've looked at had Cummins 350, 400, Cat 3406A & B's and one had a Detroit 8v92, Leaning more towards the 400 Cummins, But there's Something about that Detroit that keeps slapping the back of my head.

This had a KT 525 in it , Supposedly the dyno showed 600 hp . Had 6 cylinder heads , separate head for every cylinder . Boss said the engine came out of a huge loader . Only truck I ever drove that would make you down shift because of heat rise in the gear box's and rears

Oh, Anteater is a great nickname for the T series Kenworth, Never heard that one LOL.

Yeah, that "nickname" started somewhere around the mid or late 80's, best I can remember. All us W fans hated how they looked. Although I never drove one, so I can't give my opinion on that part of it, but I'm sure they had their good points as Powerdriver has indicated. A lot of Owner/Operators would not give up their W's, but a lot of freight companies had them as they really didn't care how they looked. The dollar was the bottom line to them.

Always got impressed by Extendable Trailers. One company nearby me had them years ago and would carry some frightening loads.

Some may remember me mentioning "Tail Swing". That load will sure take some extra effort, especially in any tight turns.

Long WB tractors might be the hot setup for out west where roads, freight docks are more recent and built to accomodate high loads and wider loads .
But try to back one up and put your trailer in the dock . Even in the early '70s we had to call the cops on private property enclosed delivery docks when tempers flared . Probably some of the eastern terminals were built for 30' trailers ................or maybe just horses and wagon. That's where private draymen and switchers got their business start.

It looks like some thief wanted to have the brass and shiney stuff, but with that fire body out of the way, you'd have a neat old Cannonball style truck. Chances are it has a 503" gas engine and 5 speed OD transmission, and was probably supplied through Civil Defense. I had a 1954 model 630 that was supplied to Highland Heights, Ohio through Civil Defense. The retired chief told me it cost the village $15,000 of which half was paid by the volunteer department at that time . It had the statement of origin on it when I bought it, no title because nobody plated it . Statement of origin showed Civil Defense, Columbus Ohio, Village of Highland Heights, then Ohio Rubber owned it before me , they used it for plant fire protection as they had their own fire brigade.

But this old jewel needs to be rescued ! Where in PA. is it ?

About 4 years ago ... it was sitting outside an RV/travel trailer dealership just south west of Gettysburg. Would love to see it restored. Thanks for the insight. :chevy:
