Are ya talking about the hole in the air box? If ya are, that was there when I got here...

Skill level 0-10, 10 being the hardest, about a 5. I have more problems with a and b posts lower patch panels. If the PO hasn't made any patches it's alot easier. When ya get into a factory spot weld it's alot easier. If ya can take a spot weld apart without destroying the metal your trying to save, you can do this, and that is easiest if you make the pc. your trying to remove flat( cut away all metal till you have a ribbon of metal with the spot weld in it), then just use the 4 1/2" grinder to remove the spot weld, then move on to the next one, prying up slightly

I spent about a week and a half cutting out the old floorboard, plasma woulda helped. You can reinstall floorboard with plug welds, so you don't really have to know how the weld, if ya can fill in holes with a mig. You're dealing with a factory seam, front and rear, so it makes it easy to line up flanges (before I started, I painted the seam area, so it showed a line to match up) should also be less welding then a floor patch, if you consider total distance tobe welded

Yes, depending on his ability;), but I would recommend this as an entry level, far less fitting and cutting, fitting and cutting, fitting and cutting...So far all I did was cut out old floor, pop in new

Makes sense due to the nature of the beast, I was just curious.
Will this cab be dipped or sprayed for the initial primer?

If you pry open the seam on the bottom of the cowl, between the spot welds, it will help drain better. ;)
The stock weep holes typically gets clogged up, that's when the problems start.

I can see it now...Jon sells the part and offers to fly Jim to the customer's site (of course on the customer's dime) for the install. This would be great, but where do I fit in? Ah yes, Jim, you'll need an agent! And Kurt, hmm, well we'll have to have a west coast installer as well as an east coast installer! I think this is a great idea. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Kurt- I've got three cabs here all with the same issues in that part of the cowl. I'm actually thinking we'll cut it off cleanly and fab a new one and send this out to explore making a patch panel from just below the fender bolt hole to the bottom. We have a similar piece already for the '73-'87.

I only used bracing so as not to collapse the roof, should be easier on the Jimmy/Blazer, since that won't be a concern...

I say take the front clip off, cut the floor strait across. You may not need to raise the bed, since the floor pan mounts to the step up. Clean up the factory seam(front and rear). You will have to modify the rear of the floorpan some. Put the cowl/windshield back on zip screw both ends and check door alignment. If they line up, mount your rockers. I think bracing would be in your way, but that's just me. This floor pan is extremely strong. I have about 20 zip screws holding it together up to this point

This is the area of making a ribbon of the sheet metal, cutting the top and bottom so your left with a 1" pc. with the spot weld in the middle

Kurt- there are rust holes in it; just hard to see in the pictures. Most of the holes are down low near the mating flange for the floor. It's apart, we have the new firewall so we figured why not replace it and know we don't have any issue with rust to deal with.
