Yours just bolt straight down though not like that, right?

Why not some grade 8 bolts? I may be totally wrong though..

My tri 4-link came in from Scott's Hotrods. It looks nice. I will post a pic later. I guess that is one more piece of the puzzle.

hey billy so sorry to hear about your dad.

love your progress i know i havent been on this site at all but if you still got my number hollar at me anytime you need i come to the city quite a lot. id be glad to do any bodywork you need thats my favorite. i could even bring back most of your panels and work on them up here and bring them back to you if youd like.

Re: AD Truck Project

I appreciate it man. At first I probably will only do repairs for body work. The patina the truck has I am really digging. Esepcially after I CLR'd some of it. There is a bit of pin striping I will probably get with you about.

Since the bowling alley closed on 39th, are they going to have the Okie Twist Off somewhere else? I have meant to go to that since I have lived up here and always forgot.

Re: AD Truck Project

well man from big to small let me know on that body work. even maybe just small touches just let me know. i havent had a chance to even touch mine. id rather have someone have theirs on the road hahah.

i havent talked to many people about the twist off not too fond of some of the groups that run it. ive been traveling photopgraphing some of the bigger shows recently. theres an awesome old school show may 5-7th in dewey that will be awesome.

Where is Dewey?

Re: AD Truck Project

It's north of Bartlesville. Were leaving up Friday evening and staying til Saturday. I have a few photoshoots for people's cars to do Saturday. If you or anyone wants to go let me know.

I keep going back and forth on mine if I want to paint or not paint but I'm doing quite a bit of custom touches I'm sure I'll eventually paint. I don't blame you for nOt painting right away drive the heck out of it.

Re: AD Truck Project

That is my theory right now. Slowly get it drive-able and worry about paint later. That would give me time to work on dents and such a little at a time.

Re: AD Truck Project

I'm getting that itchy wanting to drive feelin too. I have a tendency to hurry when I get in that mood I'm trying to hold back. I wish I hadn't started full customizing things but now I'm too far into it. Maybe I'll just show all my welds and lead work for a while that could bE a nice touch haha. Did you end up going with that 350. I was about to say I have an extra 305 if you needed it.

Ive got a 60 over 350 fresh from the machine shop. I need to get some heads for it. There may be a pair at my dad's shop. We just have not had time to go look.

Re: AD Truck Project

I went to parr yesterday and bought the upper arm bolts. They were like $21 but they are the correct part for the job and did not have to wait.

http://static.speedwaymotors.com/RS/...034310-2_R.jpg

I have the front end mocked up, rotors are on with tires and wheels hung, but no lugs yet. I took the training wheels off the front too. Tonight I am going to hang the drivers side fender and see about clearance. I sorta checked last night, but lighting was not good. I also need to decide if I want mount the cross member up into the frame like fredscarryall did on his slamburban thread.

Fred's Pic Below

Pic borrowed from fredscarryall's build thread. Check it out.

I will post a few pics if I can remember to get them when there is light. This one I ran through photo shop.

Re: AD Truck Project

i thought it was a good idea so that the notch in the frame keeps the ifs crossmember up high enough so it wont hit, ever if i get a flat or lose an air bag. but i also installed two inch drop spindles.mine could lay running boards but i wouldnt be able to push it if for some reason i lost my air system or hand to get it up on a flat bed tow truck. i put in one inch bump stops to fix that. so my running board are now an inch off the ground

Re: AD Truck Project

I see you found some bolts for the upper control arms. Nice work. Keep at it man.

Tiny garage.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_H...2020.19.41.jpg

I think the crossmember needs to go forward a bit more.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_H...2019.52.42.jpg

Thanks for the info fred. I already have 2in spindles on it, but I do not have my cups yet. I have a pair or ss6's going under the front.

Mcbassin - Got a little done.

looks good. are those oldsmobile wheels?

bjcaldwe 05-11-2011 10:17 AM

Re: AD Truck Project

Yup, pretty sure they are. I am not even sure how we ended up with them. But I know the price was right for me.

Re: AD Truck Project

I had the same wheels on a buick regal that ran in the 11s and still had the diesel badges on the side.

bjcaldwe 05-11-2011 11:10 AM

Re: AD Truck Project

I think the wheels will kinda look the part for this version of the build.

bjcaldwe 05-12-2011 09:44 PM

Re: AD Truck Project

I raised the control arm until right before it binds and then stood out in the street and now see what fred means about the cross member hanging so low and leaving the rack exposed too. It tucks a decent amount of wheel, but I want my ride height a bit lower.

I took everything loose from the cross member and started cutting loose my tack welds. But my compressor acted funky and tripped the breaker. So, I thought that was a good stopping point and cleaned up a bit, moved some stuff to the back so I am not tripping over it. Either Saturday or Sunday I will get back after it again.

Saturday and Sunday passed long ago, have you finished out that front end yet? Or has the heat been killing all of your motivation like it has me?
