Next came the dreaded bottom and as you can see we took one piece of after
market metal , cut it in half and added 6"s to it in the center. |

Since the ends weren't stamped like the original I cut the originals out and tacked
them in place. |

Had to laugh the window didn't fit, My son commented you must have mismeasured.

Next was the door skin, prestressed it, bent the edges, acid etched and sealed the
inside of the door then installed it. |

Then came the fun part, the windows. first was to slice and dice the window frames
and the window bottom being careful to keep the window cam channel in the original position. next was the door cam channel tacked in place (I chose to use a full length channel because of a possible mod later). |

Next I installed the window channel inserts (the fuzzies), connected the power and
ran the window up to form the channel insert at the radius, a few light taps with a ball peen hammer did the job nicely. LMC apparently cuts the inserts 6 inches longer than required for a stock door in that all I had to do was move the insert clip at the bottom of the channel about 5/16th of an inch to hold the insert in place. Lucky Me!! |

Ran the window up and down a couple times to make sure there were no issues.
The arrow heads in the following picture indicate where the cam follower is when the window is all the way up, down and in the middle. Everything was OK soooo. |

Next we modified the inner brace to facilitate the door cam, rosette welded the cam
chnl. then replace the skin and close up that section. |

The following five pictures show the splicing of the fuzzies at the top of the door.
And finally, the next picture is self explanatory. So much for the passenger door |

the next 16 pictures are of the driver side door, we didn't have as bad a time with it
since the door bottom didn't need to be replaced. |

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN
Thanks for the door stretch tutorial. Your truck is looking great. I will be stretching the doors on mine at some point this year, so I at least have an idea what to look for.

I should also add that after operating the windows and seeing how much torque the window motors had I thought it prudent to add some (front to rear) bracing since these doors were not designed for electric windows. The bottom brace and window stop are inadequate . |
Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN
