Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

I got some well needed therapy in the garage today. First time touching it in over a year! My "five minutes" was about 3.5 hours and I didn't get much done. Wow, I am off kilter quite a bit, good thing I have extra parts because I cut the first window frame too short. :drunk: Yeah, like I said, if my "five minutes a day plan" turns into "Five minutes a week" it will get done a heck of a lot sooner than not touching it for a year!

But the second one around came out nice. It's so funny how you can twist and tweak these things unlike I remember doing years ago. Anyway, got the rear half of the frame tacked in there and the front lower piece raked back and in. Got the front piece ready to bend into shape and I'll do that next trip out to the garage.

I put my Chuck Berry LP on the record player and then a few CCR LPs and American Graffiti soundtrack. :D That Chuck Berry was the very first LP I ever bought new. I got it at the JC Penny in the first mall I ever went into. My mom was probably there to get some new shoes or something and I of course was with her. Listening to it is a treasure of a memory for me. :D

Made backing board for the headliner and door panels. I have been using Allman Brothers for upholstery background music. First album I bought was Meet The Beatles. It and the rest of my records, slot cars and everything except my hunting rifle and fishing gear "disappeared" while I was in Basic Training. Also lost my tools and some spare car parts to theives that broke into my Dad's storage shed.

I get a kick out of listening to my old albums. The only thing I don't like is the record player I have has no way to stack them like I use to under my bed when I was a kid. :D
I'd put five or more on there and go to sleep listening to them.

Last night it was literally five minutes, maybe not even that. I cut the front piece of the door window frame to length, marked it and cut it, that was it.

Not much but still more than the entire 15 months prior to last week.

Brain, I feel your pain, sometimes I will go into the shop to do something else and just spend 5-10 minutes on the truck. Not much but it does seen like progress.

Nope, I don't joke about the 5 minutes day plan. :D It works, I did my Gran Sport in about 8 months after starting the plan. It had sat there painted for a year and in 8 months I assembled it, restored the top irons and installed the top, everything, from a garage full of parts covered in dust to driving it in about 8 months.

If we force ourselves to get out there for 5 minutes SOMETHING will happen in that five minutes, even if it's planning, or arranging nuts and bolts, SOMETHING will happen. No kidding, cutting that piece was more than had been done in the previous 15 months! So it will get done a lot faster doing that than not at all.

Most of the time that 5 minutes turns into a half hour or more, but even just the five minutes is better than nothing.

But I have amazed myself at how many times I have gave up and sat on the couch in my pajamas only to feel guilty and walk out to the garage and do something!

Nope, the 5 minute a day plan WORKS! :metal:

Headliner will be the same fabric on 1/8" masonite, slipped into the stock opening it will be a snug fit. Using split door edge guard to trim the metal edge. Doors will be painted and the recess where the handles go will get the fabric on 1/16" plastic, pressure glued to the metal. The fabric is DesignTex heavy duty commercial grade furniture fabric. Wears like iron, super stain resistant but not cheap. Got the templates made, will post pics when I get them upholstered in installed.

the A/C is vintage Air, but the brackets are from Kwik Performance.

I'll have to look to see the exact setup part numbers I got.
Haven't taken any pictures of just the brackets

It is a high mount setup for LS engine, and it requires the
2010 camaro water pump

Door Panels. The stock raised metal accent will be metallic black to match the steering wheel , knobs and ac grille. Rest of panel will be silver birch to match the rest of interior. Arm rest is grey matching the seat leather, door handles stock chrome and black knobs.

Got the last 2 coats of primer on my hood and rear fenders.
All 3 panels now only need a 400 blocking and 600 wet sanding before paint. I am planning on Monday morning at this point. I want to only paint in the AM hours now. It's getting pretty hot out there.

Between the 320 sanding and reducing the epoxy 10% as well as using my Iwata LPH-400, it laid down pretty smooth for primer. I didn't use to be able to shoot paint that smooth.

Looks great!
I'm anxious to see that interior all finished.

Looks excellent Roger! Maybe I missed it, what are those two small holes on the left rear fender for? Now that I re-look, there's one on the right rear fender too!

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Thanks Dan.

I'm going to re-use the rear bumper that was on this truck when I got it and it uses those holes to bolt the ends to:

http://www.hotrodders.com/gallery/da...1/IMG_6934.JPG

I got it fixed up real nice and it's painted ready to go on as soon as the rear fenders are painted and mounted:
