So... (It's never good when the conversation begins with "So...") So I am thowing in the towel on the rust repair and taking the cab up to DeWayne and his crew at Nsane Hot Rodz. Plans for the moment include blasting and priming the sheet metal, rust repair, as well as powder coat for the frame and suspension parts. I just do not have the talent or the temperment to accomplish the repairs to the level I want them done. I'd like to have a nice straight truck and I think this is the best avenue to reach that goal. While the sheet metal and frame are gone I'll work on the detailing the engine and transmission. Oh, and clean up my garage!! |
Re: Project: Shiro
Frame looks good. Looking at that new crossmember makes me want one even more now. Gotta draw the line somewhere.
Understand the body work deal. I'm considering your plan as a backup but going to try and give it a go first. |
Re: Project: Shiro
Good plan, Buck! Looking forward to seeing their work.

So what is the purpose of this piece? And does it replace anything? |

Re: Project: Shiro
It's good to know ones limitations and not end up making things worse and costing yourself more time & money along the way. Nothing wrong with that at all, I applaud your attempt to even try.

Well, it was a whirlwind trip to drop the truck off, 1100 miles in 22 hours to be exact. Here is a pic of my pile-o-parts in the Nsane Hot Rodz shop. (photo credit to @nsanehotrodz) I am really looking forward to seeing this old heap whipped into shape.
Attachment 1387227 When we arrived home I was greeted by a box containing my Boyd Welding EFI fuel tank courtesy of Travis at Pro Performance. Many thanks to Travis and Dave for partnering to provide a group buy and a great product. Attachment 1387231 |

Re: Project: Shiro
Nice! You do know how to put it all back together, right?;)
|
Re: Project: Shiro
Nice.
Better bag up those bolts/nuts/washers before you loose something...LOL Don't forget to remove the cab mount bushings before taking it to get coated... |
Re: Project: Shiro
Very nice. My wife got into the habit of throwing out bags for whatever reason. so when I did my last engine swap, I used her plastic bowls. :haha:

Got the first round of pictures from DeWayne and the folks at Nsane Hot Rodz... The cab floor is like swiss cheese in places with little holes sort of all over the place, but not nearly as bad as a few of you have experienced, and a few other areas I wasn't planning for will also need attention.

Re: Project: Shiro
Your cab is in good hands.
I think a LOT of these old trucks would look different after a trip to the blaster. At least you will know what you have when you are done! |
Re: Project: Shiro

Most of these old trucks have way more rust than people think. The blaster will find it, no doubt. Keep the pictures coming. |
Re: Project: Shiro
Looks awesome Buck! You definitely made the right choice taking it to them.
|
Re: Project: Shiro
The repair looks good! I may have to give them a call when I'm ready. Onward!
