I agree, I am not well suited for sheet metal repair! :banghead:

I'm not sure what you mean by that.

So... (It's never good when the conversation begins with "So...") So I am thowing in the towel on the rust repair and taking the cab up to DeWayne and his crew at Nsane Hot Rodz. Plans for the moment include blasting and priming the sheet metal, rust repair, as well as powder coat for the frame and suspension parts. I just do not have the talent or the temperment to accomplish the repairs to the level I want them done. I'd like to have a nice straight truck and I think this is the best avenue to reach that goal. While the sheet metal and frame are gone I'll work on the detailing the engine and transmission. Oh, and clean up my garage!!

Frame looks good. Looking at that new crossmember makes me want one even more now. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Understand the body work deal. I'm considering your plan as a backup but going to try and give it a go first.

So what is the purpose of this piece? And does it replace anything?

It stiffens the frame and replaces the trailing arm and transmission crossmembers.

Forum member ebfabman has a 3 DVD set that shows how he does sheet metal repairs on a 67-72 cab. You can order them by contacting him via PM on here or through his web site www.ebfabman.com

Sounds like a good plan. You know what you want and you have to do what is best for you. I've seen some of their work. They look like they are super skilled. Looking forward to update pics.

Thanks Mike, I'm so freakin' squirrely with my plans you'll never know which direction this project will go from one day to the next! We have swapped comments on this before but there is no doubt what you did with your truck was very impressive and I wish could have done this myself for the pride of it and the cost savings. I'd love to wear the moniker "Built Not Bought" on my sleeve but I want a nice truck so based on my abilities I'm going to have to buy some of mine! Thanks again for the encouragement, I'll try to keep up with some meaningful updates.

It's good to know ones limitations and not end up making things worse and costing yourself more time & money along the way. Nothing wrong with that at all, I applaud your attempt to even try.

Dont feel bad ... Im in talks with my local body fab guy about my body work too. Doing some custom stuff and I have no clue how to get what I want done... Sometimes you just have to let the pros do what they do

Well, it was a whirlwind trip to drop the truck off, 1100 miles in 22 hours to be exact. Here is a pic of my pile-o-parts in the Nsane Hot Rodz shop. (photo credit to @nsanehotrodz) I am really looking forward to seeing this old heap whipped into shape.

When we arrived home I was greeted by a box containing my Boyd Welding EFI fuel tank courtesy of Travis at Pro Performance. Many thanks to Travis and Dave for partnering to provide a group buy and a great product.

 Thanks for the reminder, I'm trying to forget that day! Honestly, buying this truck was not the smartest thing I've ever done and as you can see I'm really paying for it now. :( :waah: I'm hopeful the rest of my dealings in building this truck will prove to be honest with positive outcomes. I think I have a solid plan and as long as I can stay focused and adhere to it from here on out we should have a really nice truck before too long.

Nice.

Better bag up those bolts/nuts/washers before you loose something...LOL

Don't forget to remove the cab mount bushings before taking it to get coated...

Very nice. My wife got into the habit of throwing out bags for whatever reason. so when I did my last engine swap, I used her plastic bowls. :haha:

Got the first round of pictures from DeWayne and the folks at Nsane Hot Rodz... The cab floor is like swiss cheese in places with little holes sort of all over the place, but not nearly as bad as a few of you have experienced, and a few other areas I wasn't planning for will also need attention.

Your cab is in good hands.
I think a LOT of these old trucks would look different after a trip to the blaster.
At least you will know what you have when you are done!

It's great to see these guys jump right on your project! It looks like your repairs will be done correctly and you will have a great cab when done.
Most of these old trucks have way more rust than people think.
The blaster will find it, no doubt.
Keep the pictures coming.

That's for sure, it's not too bad but it's much worse in areas that I didn't even know it had issues. I( think you are correct that many of these truck are probably hiding the same rust.

Mike, I am very pleased with the progress. DeWayne told me the night I dropped it off that they were going to get right on it and it certainly appears that they are going to make good on that statement. :metal:

Give them a call! I find DeWayne to be motivated, he wants to do qaulity work in a timely manner so he can move on to the next job. Stay tuned and I will certainly give an honest assessment of my experience.
