I never noticed it before, but It seems like not all trucks are the same. Some look OK, and some look like a lot of space in front of the front wheels, unless it's just the angle they shoot the picture from.

I think the different looks are due to stance and tire size. The A arms are angle back for a smooth ride when hitting bumps, so the lower you go the further back the wheel recesses into the back of the wheel well. Some trucks look fine if they just have drop spindles but when you have lowering spring it starts accentuating that gap. Smaller diameter rim/tire setups accentuate it further while larger setups can help close the gap. In the picks above the bags are almost fully aired out so the wheels are as far back as they'll ever be.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I kind of noticed that.....but because my prostreet truck is running 33"x21.5" tires on the rear and it's a short box..I opted to change the box sides ( which were hatched anyhow ) to long box sides that were cut down and put back in . I figured that if i had to do repairs anyhow i might as well put in the long box sides which have a 3" wider wheel opening so it looks more even and you can see more tire from the side. I never even considered doing what you did because I wasn't bright enough to think of it ......lol. I think the "weekend mod " as you called it looks awesome and makes a big difference. It's those types of details that are really going to set your truck apart. You have a great eye for detail, i really like this build.

Its hard to remember whats changed, so subtle yet grand improvement. Grabbed a shot of my beast to compare, it becomes very evident side by side, and mine isn't very low. The trim job on the bumper really finishes the look, awesome touches.
Any idea if PB's or Scotts crossmember kits fix this design flaw?? Or is using a set of Delmo Hoops the only saviour for a non-fabricator.;)

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

It's a great improvement man.

I've measure a long box wheel arch vs. a shortbox and found only ~1" difference.

The Porterbuilt dropmember does move the wheels forward. That's why Delmo's looks centered. If anything bigger hoops will accentuate the problem more.

I read somewhere that the difference in long and short beds was 3" but I've never measured them so I'll take your word for it.
And Frizzle, I looked at the Sunbeam/S2000 thread again after not seeing it for a year or so and I'm blown away. That's a great project that I'm sure will turn out amazing. Talk about a super sleeper. Great work!

I have both long and short beds to measure side-by-side.

On the Driftbeam2000; thanks brotha! Just ordered another $150 worth of hardware for it. I've stopped counting...

I got the hydraulic throwout from Keisler today. I still need a few more parts before the engine build. Damn, this thing's gonna break me.

So what headers did you end up going with?

Check back on page 28. There's a picture of them. I'll definitely post a pic when they're finished, but I need to figure out rack and pinion steering linkage before any progress can be made.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

what hood hinges are you going to use? factory or pb hinges??

shrunken66stroker 09-05-2011 12:13 PM

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I'm not sure yet. I think with the PB hinges you can't run inner fenders, right? I'm definitely going to have inner fenders, so depending on the final design of the hood I'll either use the originals or adapt something else from a newer Chevy at the junk yard.

chad64chevy 09-05-2011 12:25 PM

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

i'm not sure either! i would think you would be able to notch the inner fender rail where the factory hinge bolts to to fit the pb hinges, but thats something to think about! i thought the pb hinges give you more tire clearance for lowered trucks? like so you can take the inner fenders out to drop it more, if this makes sense, i could me wrong tho!!

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

How about a hood shocks with the stock hinges? I was wondering if that would work with our heavy hood. Works good on tonneau covers.

Hey there oh wise one.....

I am looking for ideas for the tailgate on my prostreet truck and was going to start a thread for some ideas. I went back on your thread and checked out what you have done for yours and I like it....would you do it again or make changes ?

I like everything except the way the stealth latches seat into the rubber grommets. I haven't decided what to do about it yet because I've been trying to figure out the front end.

Just went through your whole thread in between coats of stain on my bed wood. Love the wheels, stance, and the front fender opening mod! You do great work and seeing your progress really makes me want to get mine rolling! Keep it up!

Thanks guys.
I cut the end off of one side and a chunk out of the middle of another bumper today. I'm not sure how much I'm going to have to trim off of it but I'll figure it out. Off to get more argon in the morn. I ran out yesterday. I'll at least tack it up tomorrow.

I cut this piece out of my old bumper, shaped it and tacked it on. It kind of flares out away from the truck. I'm not in love with it so it will probably change.

Dude...

Great to see what your doing again....I love what your trying and since you trimmed up the center of the bumper i have given this alot of thought...can't wait to see how it ends up looking...keep up the good work

I shortened the bumper ends up and rounded them to match the fender a little better. I also finish welded and smoothed out the fenders.

There's a gap at each corner that I'm going to fill up to be consistent with the rest of the bumper.
