the Trans Canada trail used to be multi-use pretty much everywhere around our place, but that seems to have changed now....which i think is pretty stupid, atv's are what keep the trails open, ain't enough hikers ever walking them to keep them from reverting back to nature.....beyond here is foot or bicycle only now....i'd just keep on riding up it if my son was'nt with me...do'nt want to start him on the road to bad habits in the woods though...

run into an old buddy of mine (worked with him in the early '90's!) camped by Williams peak, which came in handy for me...

left my atv with him and had wife double me back to the truck so i could bring it in closer to where my buddy was camped.....

because i got a flat. i hit a rock real hard and the tire went flat pretty much instantly, could'nt see anything at first, so i figured i knocked it off the bead. at first i took some starter fluid and tried to re-set the bead.

after messing around with it some, this gash reared it's ugly head....and right in the middle of the sidewall....:waah:.....so much for this tire. jammed a couple plugs in it, lasted 'bout 20 mins under riding, split kept getting bigger.....held air long enough to get it on and off the trailer....my day is done-bummer...another 3-400 hundred for tires now....crewcab paint job keeps getting further away......

got some new mud lites for my quad. there a 25, the stock size were 23's. picked up about 10-12 mph on the top end....blowing the sidewall out of my old tire was not all i managed though, it also bent one tie rod almost in half....new tie rods are here tomorrow, just in time for some Coquihalla riding this weekend...:metal:

this is the Trans Canada Highway, pretty much Canada's only national highway coast to coast. hundreds of thousands of vehicles travel it every day, always busy....and look at this, not one single vehicle...it was weird, like we were the last truck on the road...turns out the highway had been shut down and we came on it right in the middle of the shutdown. sadly, about a mile behind us, a pickup crossed the highway into opposing traffic slamming into a toyota head on killing a pregnant mom in the pass. seat...

cant get up the canyon now, so we went down to the Fraser river, it's running too high right now to let dawg out...not to the road yet. quite often this road ends up under 5-8 feet of water

some bummer news lately.
the Ladner creek train bridge me and son hiked up to last summer was just recently set on fire....:sumo:
a beautiful old train bridge built in 1916, stood for over a hundred yrs against some of the worst snows and weather possible...all it took was one dumb-arse idiot a couple hrs' apparently some people crossed the bridge and threw a cigarette on to the cross ties. when they got to the other side and seen what they did they tried to put it out with a water bottle. when some witness'es called forest service, they took off.

as the cross-ties burned up and fell, they set the forest down below on fire....took forest service 2 days to mop it up, very steep terrain around there.
haft to go up there and see what kind of shape the bridge is in...:waah:

tried to ride the Mt Thurston loop today...was only halfway successful.
don't know why it's called mt thurston, cause the road actually winds it's way around mt Mercer. have'nt done it since the early '90's with my K5, don't think you would get any truck over it know...after our ride we ran into some people who tried from the south side and said avalanches and run-off have taken the road out only a mile or so in. glad we came at it from the north.
