Well, I was going to finish tearing all the old wood and welded in angle iron out of the bed of my truck but after changing oil/filter and spark plugs in my little work car it was already 95 outside and the humidity is making it feel like 102.
Did blast the underside of one step and get it primed Friday evening. Slow going during the dog days of summer. |

I got my brakes done and drove the truck up to Mickey D's...the exhaust was a bit loud for the kids in the drive thru...had to shut the truck off to correct the order:lol::metal: First time I've had the truck out on the street in about a year...felt real good!:metal:  |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Well, after stripping a thread in the bowl on the Rochester B carb, I had hoped that a machine shop could put Heli-coil inserts in, but no...drilled and tapped the holes out to allow a 1/4-28 bolt, punched 1/4 holes in the gasket, and drilled out the choke cable flange to 1/4 inch, put it all together and I’m back on the road...for the time being.... I’m happy!

Got my A/C straightened out . Evacuated the system added some lube and recharged with new r12 . Just hair over 3 lbs 81° out and its blowing 41°.
Also started disassembly of the 68s nose to get ready to take the cab off. Very little rust so far none on the floors just the RH rocker And on a side note some nice CAB Tomahawk Texas steak for dinner . |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Just spent a crapload of $$ to get the tranny fixed in the 96 Silverado (along with a transfer case seal, rear main seal and new U-joints) so I can drive it instead of using my 67 GMC as a daily driver.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Removed front and back glass for Upper cab paint this weekend, new glass to install and new door weatherstrips.
Minimal rust found which is always a plus. |

In the process of disassembling the step side bed. Got all the old wood out and the fenders and steps off.
Bed sides probably usable as well as the sills. Bed front and rear cross sill will have to be replaced. Few more bolts and I’ll have it all apart. Will probably jump to cleaning up rear frame and do rear brake and suspension work before tackling stripping the bed for primer. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I have my step bed nearly as disassembled as yours. I bought a new headboard, cross sills, corner angle strips and floor strips for mine along with all new hardware. My bed sides are in pretty good shape. I hope to blow mine apart before long and get all that done.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Boog,
Where did you order your bed parts? I’ll need angle strips as well. And all the bed wood and hardware as well but I’d like to get all the metal parts first. Getting this apart for easy access to the rear frame to do brakes, springs, and all the usual stuff. |

Got her off the trailer and started my plans for a build. Made a deal to have a 454 built for her. Started planning my drum to disc swap and in my mind decided to paint her bright red instead of the dark maroon color. Will build her with my 21 year old son, so I'm excited to get started.

I started drilling out about a 1,000 spot welds on the donor lower cowl vent. Then I can drill out the one on my truck. Going to replace the rusted cowl.

Hung the radiator support and bolted on the door and fender . Both OEM pieces everything lined up pretty well even the rocker with a few 5 pound sledgehammer plows on a 2x4 . Came to the cab corner . It was a cluster ###! . It was almost like it was for an extended cab . Had to cut it into 3 pizza slices just to get it to line up. 5 hours I would rather not repeat. Other side is getting a few small pieces.
If anyone is doing cab corners stay away from the CHL brand |
