Great pics! Thank You. Like a time machine for us that remember such scenes. Would love to go back in time with the 54, visit that store grab a .50 roast beef sandwich and a cold .10 Pepsi then fill the tank with .16 gas and head down the road.

One more for 1970. Friends and family inspecting the 54 down PICO RIVERA,CA when you could walk the street unarmed. Thats a brand new 1969 Toyota Corolla in the driveway my dad bought from directly the singer Frankie Lane (rawhide song) when he had a toyota . Front of girlfriends 64 289 4 speed mustang. 2 weeks after pic truck was parked for a year at Nellis AFB while i got to meet (and help kill) interesting folks in Vietnam.

Re: Our Trucks Doing What They Did - Vintage Photo Thread
In 1970 the truck got the name "George" by a beautiful ex LV showgirl turned Baccarat schill/"escort". She spoke the language of the mafia. George meant "ok or coast is clear" Tom meant "bad or cops are on to us". What she saw in me or truck i'll never be sure. Truck is family and even in the Trust. After 50+ years and 10+ girlfriend there's even more interesting stories that can't be printed here.

May have said before my Uncle got it from Edwards AFB in 1964 when it was 10. USAF used to surplus out vehicles at 10 years. Doubt he paid $200 for it and the hydromatic still working when i got it. He used to drink a bit and why there's a big telephone dent in the front.

Check this out, this is the building I work in now. The window all the way to the left by the door is my office. I love walking around this place, the wood floor in part of it is original and it is so cool. Up stairs and below in the basement it looks like parts were stored. I is so cool looking at these old shelves thinking that there used to be parts for a truck like mine sitting there. That tow truck in the photo and the pickup behind it are what I have in my garage. Very cool indeed!

Driving back from CostCo yesterday morning, and my youngest son says, "There's a rust bucket truck behind us". It was in the right lane, I was in the left. I moved over to prepare for a turn up ahead, and the person driving went to the other lane. It had a really ratty paint job that could be on purpose. License plate said "RUST BUC" I'll try and get a pic, next time I see it.
Pic copied from Post #41 and cropped to show the one it looked like. |
