Did you ever get your turn signal issue chased down?

Re: MY build thread...

I think my front sockets are the issue. I just manually do it for now lol

Thanks. I knew when I first fired this motor the timing was off an it kicked back a few times and that's not good on them and since have it dialed in. The 5.3 was going to go into this truck with a small turbo on it but have since sidelined that motor for a later project yet to be determined.. I am still deciding if I'm going to take karma out and flog it on the 1/8th mile tomorrow or not. Guess I will see what saterday brings..

Re: MY build thread...

Turbo on that 5.3 would be sick in your truck. Honestly contemplated puttin one in mine but decided against it. Imma need all extra money for rest of truck haha and all my other plans. Hows other truck comin along

Re: MY build thread...

Those 5.3's put down some nasty numbers with 8-10 lbs of boost but this motor in my truck runs to well to yank it but maybe next year ill have the 5.3 built and a 400 trans laying around or maybe a 4l80. Other trucks coming along good. Big Red Dog is the build. Check it out. Haven't posted pics of the door yet but one is done the other maybe next week.

Re: MY build thread...

Having met and talked to Troy in person, I see some fatal flaws in this logic. See, a lot of us think we are putting an LSx in our builds to get better gas mileage, but it won't work. You may have noticed he mentioned 3 buck plus gas a couple of posts ago. But he also mentioned something about 1/8 mile. IIRC, that is drag racing.

I can tell you from personal experience that an unmolested LS1 ('98 T/A, red even) can make the fuel gauge needle move before your very eyes. All you gotta do is touch the gas pedal.

So I could buy other reasons of switching to an LSx, but fuel economy ain't one.

BTW Troy, I forgot to tell you. The old school hot rodder guy I told you I sent the rear end to was bragging with a dyno sheet for a 427 (LS) he built. Over 700 HP rear wheels.

Dave, owner of The Big Red Dog.

Re: MY build thread...

That would be a fun thing to have under my foot! I'm still unsure if I'm racing or not... I think I'll just go watch today even though I would like to know what that ol motor has in it.

Well guys guess my rear end ate something it didn't like and something vacated the rear end just above the bolt on the run gear side. When I got to the show and backed in it popped then started leaking. She got a ride home on a trailer but it pulled onto it on its own... Here's one pic I will get more when I get the cover off... Karma strikes again!

Ring gear broke sooooo. Do I stay 3.73 or step up to 4.11? Either way I'm putting a new gear in with bearings!!!

Ouch !!
Any ideas what caused that to happen?

And I shudder to think what you may have done to put yourself in Karma's cross hairs.....

Well guys rearend is still in working order. I guess the PO had the cover off and removed the gear tooth when the motor broke... I'm putting in my fuel tank (17 gallon) lmc tank and starting on the rest of the exhaust. And while I waited I cleaned up some stuff that hasn't been on the truck in 8 years... Finished bodyworking the inner fenders because I will need them also soon...... Ill post pics tomorrow from computer because my phone won't let me!

Well guys karma strikes again! My power steering box is leaking again! So time for a new!!! Anyone know what all years fit with captain fab plates... I have a 72 box now but I think the shaft is scored up causing it to leak.. If I could post pics I'd show you my next venture is to cut my freshly varnished wood that I have to cut more for tire clearance...

Dang, that sux! Karma is really biting you in the butt lately, huh?

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...power+steering

^^^According to post #22, a P/S gear box from '69-87 will work. Just keep in mind that they switched to metric in 1980 I think. I bought a new Fenco gear box for mine from Advance Auto. I also used one for a '72. If you use online discount codes, you could knock a decent chunk off the price!

Worked on the ls a bit and found out I should have the heads checked for cracks because the 706 castings are prone to do so!

Re: MY build thread...

Well guys to update... Bed wood is done! Rear tires are on and awaiting new beauty rings, and new used power steering box (thanks Randy aka teeitup) installed and leak free!!! No it's time to save some money for a bit and get the exhaust done next... Backed it out of the garage today and I was a little worried about going from a 10" wide tire to an 8" tire but I think it will be good... Low milage tires equal soft tread so I will see what it does on the road soon!

Well guys I'm not very happy at all... I've been through two starters now this year, one broke nose cone one split bendix gear and now when the last one came apart it destroyed my SFI flywheel costing me $100 for the flywheel and a $60 difference for a new mini starter!!! I even used the brace on the first one and still broke... Wish I could just afford to go buy a turn key motor and drop it in....
