Since I have basically moved every wire around in the harness I decided to add a ground block behind the instrument cluster. The harness has ground wires running through out it. One thing I always run into is finding a ground location especially with the smooth firewall.

I plan to solder the ends and clamp them in.

I also wanted to have my cargo light come on with the door or by the ditch or not at all. So I got a 3 position switch and started to wire it.
Pushed to the left. Cargo light on
Middle no cargo light
Right cargo light on when the door is open.

Thank you. It’s a grounding block from Home Depot. They have about 6-8 different styles.

Slow going on the wiring... I bet I have 100 hours in it!!! or at least I feel like it.
I am currently connecting a remote start and keyless entry module. All packard 56 connectors and soldered with no butt connectors or tee taps.
I have re routed almost every wire in the harness. No good pictures but I will as soon as I have the wiring tested and secured.
I have put a list together of things to get from the Turlock Swap-meet this weekend in Turlock California. Anyone else going???

As I said in the last post. I have been pulling the harness apart and moving wires around. The pictures are of me removing the factory connector to the switch to splice the remote start wires in. I soldered the Morning and placed 2 layers of heat shrink. The white connected looks like GM did it!!! If they used white Delphi/Packard 56 connectors.

Started to get the speaker installed I used a 5x7 dual voice coil retro sound speaker. I picked up a half-inch thick foam board from Hobby lobby and some black polyester material.
The speaker is directional as you can see in one of the pictures the tweeters are at an angle I am assuming that it’s supposed to be that way.
I forgot to take a picture after I covered the speaker and foam.i did get a shot when testing from the top of the dash down.
I did have to get polish out from between the slots in the dash.
I will get a picture from under the dash to show the room or lack of between the speaker, stereo, and AC vent.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Last night finished up the install of the Retrosound Stereo. Since the stereo was in and wired, speaker installed, A/C installed, wiper system installed I decided to put the Key cylinder in, fuses in and hooked up power and ground to test them out. I turned the switch turned the stereo on and it worked so CHECK, wiper motor high and low CHECK, A/C blower on CHECK.
What a great feeling to have spent this much time wiring and so far the under the dash wiring is working as planned. Now its time to check the under hood wiring, front lighting harness, rear lighting harness and LS harness wiring...

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Yes I did they look good. The hdx do a few things that the rtx don’t.
I just received mine Wednesday. Just waiting on the bim module.

Worked on installing the LS harness on the motor. Had to shorten a few wires like the o2 MAF etc. Finished up the connectors for the rear lights, fuel pump, and fuel gauge wires.
Just waiting on th BIM module for the HDX gauges so I can wire the obd2 connectors.
Next to install radiator support to build a custom mount for the ECM and then build the wire loom to it hiding the wires in the fender.
I can’t believe how much time it has taken to get this wiring squared away. I literally have over a 100 hours in it.
GO RAMS!

What trim did you go with. I was thing about keeping mine as stock looking as possible.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

I went with the HDX series in graphite or black looking. I picked up a new re-pop – bezel from a board member a few months back. I went with the HDX series instead of the RTX because the HDX had a little bigger digital screen. The rtx look very stock.
I also ordered the bim modules so I can use canbus for my gauges. I also ordered an outside temp / compass module.
I bought them from Matt at MCBparts a board sponsor.

I have been working late the past few days but am close to having the wiring done.
Received my new battery today. Optima blue top. Now need to run the custom cables to the starter and alternator and an under hood distribution block.

Was able to get the 1/0 pure copper cables made up. I added a 200amp breaker under the cab next to the battery box. It reads waterproof. Not like I am going to be driving this in the rain. I still have to mount a distribution block for the under hood power, like alternator, cab power, Headlight relays, etc.

Also my upholstery guy picked up my dash pad to make a custom cover.
Can’t wait to get it so I can finish the dash.

Please explain the last picture. Is that the distribution block?

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

It will be interesting to see how the breaker works. I've heard that there almost isn't one large enough to put on the main lead.

Ok so I am sorry this was not described correctly.
This is a tee (if you will) to the starter. The one running towards the camera will go to an actual distribution block.
I hope this makes sense.

Dude! You are so right. I frigged up and put in the wrong place. I was supposed to put that after the starter. Damn! Now how to remedy it.

This is what happens when you plan something years earlier and forget how it was supposed to be installed.
What to do.... Make new cable???? Install a very large breaker?????

Sounds like your wiring is going to have to change. That sucks. Good luck with it and post your pictures. Keep up the good work.

Did you solder the cable ends to the cable and use shrink wrap?

Hey Mike, I used a Copper terminal, a Hydraulic crimper and heat shrink.

I think I am going to get a 500 amp ignition breaker so I don't have to make new cables.

Decided to get the under hood wiring routed and just think about the battery cable for now.

So had to install the radiator support and driver side wheel well.

I ran the wires from the bulkhead on the firewall down towards the steering column and down under the cowl back up to the void between the internefder and the outer fender.

Started string out the small groups of wires I sorted when I modded the stock harness.

I have been using molex connectors so I can just disconnect stuff if need be.

I started working on installing the ECM so I can finish the wiring to try and get this thing started. I need some motivation.
I used 1/8” aluminum plate to mount the under hood fuse block and ecm. I mounted the TCM relay and headlight relays behind the plate.
To mount the ECM I taped the holes on the housing of all he ECM. Not sure I have seen anyone do this. It should be fine.

I also recessed the fuse panel.

Nice idea. Should make for a clean install. You weren't interested in putting them under the seat or inside somewhere?

Since I would have to extend every wire in the harness or purchase a new harness I decided to keep the ECM under the hood like factory but tucked down low.

The ECM is designed to be in the elements and since I don’t plan on abusing the truck in water mud etc. I figured it would be fine. My other swap I did 7 years ago is running like a champ and it’s nothing as nice as this truck will be. It was a driver.

Started to button up the wiring to the ECM and connect to the truck under hood wiring. I will probably have to extend the wiring to the TCM so I can mount next to the ECM.

First thing was to get the passenger wiring to the passenger side so I ran the wires under the radiator. Head light, park and turn signal wires, a/c clutch, and ECM a/c wires.

Next was to install the radiator hopefully for the last time.

Then to connect the cab wiring.... breaker, alternator wire, and headlight relays etc.

Next I will have to run my cooling fan wires to the fans. But I have a Power Probe III coming today So I can test out all the circuits before running main power to everything. (Nice to have a brother in law as a Snap-On dealer).

Last photos are of the ground straps I made and installed under the passenger side cab mount. I also ran as set on the passenger side frame to radiator support and driver side cab mount. I will be installing a 4 gauge ground from frame to engine block.

Today I wanted to mount the TCM. I am thinking of mounting it under the engine cover behind the the throttle body. For now I zip tied it to the fuel rail. I will make a mount if I keep it there. If I do I won’t have about 20+ More wires running to the area of the ECM(lower front driver Fenderwell)
I decided to connect the power and use my new power probe 3RZ to test all the circuits man that thing is awesome. I have to say I am veryhappy so far not one problem. Fans, fuel pump, lights, dash etc. radio and ac fan all A ok..?? Next is to get the laptop and program the ECM.

Been working on a few little things until my dash pad got delivered after getting upholstered. Saddle color in leather with cream stitching.
Picture is with it sitting in place. Need to get different mounting screws for the 4 locations on the interior side mounting areas.
Once this is installed I can run the ac ducts and get the instrument cluster installed. Then is time to paint the column, glove box door, and ash tray.

Now that the dash pad is on it was time to get the headlight switch back in and finish the dash.
The speaker is in, duct work is in so decided to put he new Dakota digital dash together. I plugged it in and turned it on bingo. Worked great.
Looks good and now I need to finish the upper radiator hose and I think it’s about ready to start.

Well I tried to start the truck and it wouldn't start. Traced it to the injectors not firing. Come to find out it was the “starter fault diagnostics” under “OS” tab in the tune that needs to be “disabled”. After that she fired right up and purred like a kitten. Even though I put a cam in it. It’s started right up and idled great. I noticed the check engine light was on. Went to push on the pedal and nothing happened. Checked the code Found code p2138 pedal reference.
First picture the code.
Seconds was the pigtail I bought that has all the wires white. WTH.
Third and forth are how the wires are laid out in the plug
I grabbed the test kit and I traced the wires all the way back to the ECM everything was good. Not sure what to check.
But as I write this I am looking at the pictures of the plug with the f _ _ _ _ A
I look at it closer and notice I think I wired it from the top down A-F which is backwards.
So tomorrow I am going to switch it. I wish the pintail plug was color coded or at least had the letters stamped on it.

Thanks guys. I feel great. Now I have to get the pedal wiring corrected and I am pretty confident it will work.
Then it’s upper radiator hose or piping as I am going to do it in STainless.
But it’s honeydos today. Back on it tomorrow!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

So a quick fix of the DBW pedal wiring. Since I built most of the truck with connectors I just repinned the molex connector since I had wired A thru F when it should have been F thru A.
Short video of it.
I still see the CEL on so not sure what that is. Will check tonight.

2nd start up!
Now to work on the upper radiator hose.
