Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

Got the front fender seal set put together today. Oh what fun. First I tried to epoxy it together. That was a huge waste of time. It just wouldn't stick. The kit came with some huge staples but I don't have the tool for those (thats why the epoxy). So I ended up getting out the hammer, needle nose pliers and a drill. Got the staples in and finally got it done.

I just pulled the psgr side fender seals over the weekend - I was wondering how you would repair and replace them.

BigJ...
Those dust seals are a B---h arent they? I ended up doing the same thing. Also, mine have been hanging from the top holes for a couple months now. The bottom holes arent there anymore because that area was replaced:rolleyes:
If you have a pic of that area as its supposed to be drilled... it would be appreciated.

If you want I can get some shots when I get home - they are still off the truck and the sheet metal is pretty clean where they bolt in...

Shoot me a PM to remind me - if you want a shot or two.

Pix of the A pillar and cowl where the bolts go for the inner fender seals.

If you need more or need measurements - just say the word and I can get more when I get a chance.

There is only a few bolts that actually hold the metal bracket thing to the Blazer body - the rest bolt the actual seal itself to the body.

Thanks for takin' the time to post the pics. ^^^^^

Got the brake booster bolted up. Its huge compared to the stock one. I'm either going to lengthen the brace or just make a spacer for it and use a long bolt. I think the spacer will be the easiest route. Got the biggest part of the wiring harness gone over, taped up and laid out. Got the gas pedal figured out. The 70 tub used a different pedal assembly then the 72 and thats what I want to go with. Its workin' out though.

In other news I've got two new dogs. The first one a Chihuahua (Prissy) was given to us by my grandmaw, she had to move and could only take one dog with her. The second is a Puggle (Belle), half Beagle half Pug. My brother and sister inlaw dropped by the day before Thanksgiving and said, "We've bought you a early Christmas present!". Prissy is a little over a year and a nutjob. Belle is 14 weeks and house training great. I lost my last pup of 14 years about 6 months ago, its nice to have them back in the house. Gotta love dogs!

Now it looks like a Blazer. Got the doors, fenders, tailgate, hood hinges, dash pad, some more wiring, made a neat bracket for the the throttle to go into the firewall, redid the fuel filler neck(wrong angle on it) and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. A BIG THANKS to jamie72 for coming out to help toss on the sheetmetal. Hope he makes it back soon to finish it, lol.

I wish I was done sanding. I'm gonna wet sand the whole thing with 400 and reshoot the outside. Hopefully soon.

Man I want to. All depends on funds and a few other crazy things. Should have some road time on it before then, probably have some bugs to work out.

Got the gas fill lines in, gas pedal redone, wire for rear view mirror ran, wire for spot light ran, under hood wiring about done, and a bunch of other little stuff. I like messing with wiring almost as much as running a piece of sand paper.
I didn't start it because, no gas in the tank yet, but.... I did bump it over with the KEY! Yeah, it made me grin, lol.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

I put in a little power distribution block I got from the help section in the local auto parts store. It made it easier to wire up the stereo constant, rearview mirror, spot lamp, and cigarette lighter. Not pretty but it works. Got a few other things buttoned up, tranny cover and boots, steering column, dash guages, windshield washer fluid tank, rearview mirror plug soldered, etc.
It was a long day. Still haven't fired it up yet. All I gotta do is add fuel, lol. The wiring is mostly done other than chasing down gremlins. The horn, dash lights, and several other things too, lol.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...

FIRED IT UP TONIGHT! Yeah, that deserves all caps, lol. Took a minute to start it though. I didn't have the connector pushed onto the spade in the HEI, but beside it. That was one of those "Dammit" moments. Started laying out the way I want the sound system to go in. Shouldn't be too big a deal. I just hope the amps work, I powered them on but put no sound through them yet. Maybe tomorrow. The tach works, fuel guage works, oil pressures good, not sure if the speedo works, lol. I haven't found the wire for the temp guage yet but its in there somewhere. The amp guage didn't move but that could be a bad alternator, its one that I had laying around and no idea where it came from. I'll upgrade that when I get some dough anyways. Started to mount the under hood light that I took off a late model Chevy pickup. Not sure if thats where I want it or not. Heres a few pics. I forgot my camera so these are cell pics, not quite as good but still visible.

My amp gauge never moves much. If I drain the Battery a little it will move while it is charging.

Cool, thanks for the input. I never drove it when I first got it so I didn't know what it was supposed to do. Still have to find the temp guage wire. I think its dark green but theres no dark green wire hangin'.

Do you have the color wiring diagram? If not I can email it to you.

J. my temp. wire(green) comes out of the bulkhead connector(left hand side of the bulkhead connecter which is the engine harness) top, second wire in to the right

If this doesn't make sense, as I'm confused and I'm looking at it, I'll take a pic. for you

Got a few things ironed out. Wipers are fixed, still no washer spray, could be a bad switch or who knows, lol. I layed all the stereo stuff out the way it needs to go and it all works, amps are good to go. Now I just need to run all the wiring to where its supposed to go.

If I decide to be ambitious I want to fiberglass in an enclosure into the side panel. Otherwise it'll be a wood box built into the side panel. Mainly depends on the cost of the supplies to do the fiberglass. I got all the stereo wiring ran tonight. Took awhile but its done.

There's a rubber diaphram for the washer spray on the wiper motor, once those crack, it won't spray.

Does it sound like it's trying when you push the knob?
