Hey Ryan, where do you find the valve cover without a sheeps head on it? I will need one and was just wondering. You should pay your paint guy like he gets your work done, if it takes him 3 months for example pay a little here and there for the 3 months after its done. Maybe he will get the hint. :lol:

ill have to kick around to find the reversal. after thinking about it i cant remember if its for the 67-72s or the squares. ill have to find it and look. for sure on the block. if you aren't in a hurry for it i can get it off my truck whenever i get to the front axle. if you are in a hurry im sure i can get it off sooner

Not in a hurry. :lol: I have to get this truck running before I start on the 76 again. This truck has tied up a bay and been pushed in and out too many times. DIY4X doesn't stock the 67-72 shackle flip kits so I got the 1 ton square body ones. Kurt said I'd just have to drill new holes. I didn't care because I'd more than likely have to do that anyway.


Good news, my body man claims my front sheet metal is hung and he either will seal them tonight and spray tomorrow, or do it in the same order on Friday night. I'm guessing Friday night/Saturday morning. :lol:

i think that cummins engine came in normal big rig trucks and some shovels tractors and other agricultural stuff too maibe you can find the valvecovers there

whats the deal on the f350? i used to have a 95 4x4 srw and would love to buy another sometime. perfect truck for a cummins swap.

looking forward to some more longhorn stuff. i was poking bac through this thread looking for some pics of where you finalized the engine location. i remember some talk of raising it. i couldnt find any pics and was just curious for comparisons sake.

It's a 92 F-350 Ex Cab LWB DRW 4x4 with a 5.9, NV4500, Dana 80 rear, Dana 60 front, triple disc clutch, and around 650HP. We're finishing up a bunch of repairs so my Dad can drive it out to Ca so my brother can drive it home at the end of April. I'm pretty sure I had a thread on it on the board a long while back. I'll see if I can dind it.

I had some pics with it higher, I'll have to see if I can find them.

Thanks! Me too, when ever that'll be. :lol: I didn't make it over yesterday to get the parts. It was raining, and I worked on the F-350 all day. We'll see if he's around today.

I've been driving this truck for a year now. The trans is starting to develop some gear noises if you lug it in real low rpm's. I need to get the Longhorn done soon. :lol:

I hear ya man! I'm down to one running vehicle and that always makes me nervous!


I did get over and get my hood and fenders. Kind of pissed though. The hood has runs in it and he didn't paint the cowl. The point was to bolt the crap on so it could stay on and I can get everything sealed up (Kind of) so the truck can be parked out side if need be. Oh well. I didn't get to work on it all weekend. But once we install new injector seals in the F-350, it's pretty much done. I'm more than likely taking some time off this week and hope to spend it on this truck as much as I can.

Yep, we are taking the northern route to Cali. Not sure when we will be through Colorado though, its 11 hours to Denver for us.

might be better off staying on 80 through WY if you are headed to north CA. from denver you start heading south into no mans land UT. but if you take 70, get fuel in GJ. there isnt alot in UT till about halfway through the state.

We aren't going to northern California though. We have onboard capacity of nearly 130 gallons of fuel :) Gotta love "L" Tanks. Thanks for the pointers on places to get fuel though, that's appreciated.

Santa Anna/Camp Pendleton. We are taking our little brothers truck to him so he can enjoy it before he comes home in a few weeks for leave. Which now opens up the main bay in the shop for progress to get done to this project and another awaiting a conversion.

Thanks, the new tricycle motor is well. The ford lost the 5th gear nut half hour ago about an hour away from Denver. They're still cruising in 4th, and IDK what their plan is. That stinks I wish I were able to help!
At least they can still move, though it is hard on the old nerves.I was a truck driver before a brain tumor stopped put an end to it.
When somthing breaks on the road it seems like you are that much farther from home.

I hear that, sorry to hear about the tumor and I hope everything goes well with that.

They arrived last tonight at around 7pm Ca time. They hit some snow and ice along the way. They ran 4th gear from before Denver to Ca. Good thing the truck has 35's. :lol:

Today I managed to get my trans, bell housing, engine plate, and engine sat in the frame. I have it setting level and need to decide on a tcase and start building a cross member. I also tried to install my shackle flip I got from DIY4X. It was for the 73-87 1 ton trucks and I thought I could make it work, but no such luck. I ended up flipping the stock hangers and using the stock shackles for now. The truck sits level and I plan on getting some new shackles because the stockers look weakish. :lol: Then I will build some reinforcement brackets for the lower half of the stock hanger which hangs below the frame. I'll get pics tomorrow.

Thanks Ryan, Tumor is gone 5 years in May all :lol:is good. The only problem is it made it near impossable to find employment. No dissability for brain cancer!!!??

anyway I made the shackles for my 42 Jeep I welded a square tube brace in between the sides of each shackle. It made a big imrovement.

When I built the blue 68 in mi build thread I used a devorced NP 205 From a early 70s dodge. that way I figuered I could use any two wheel drive transmission. Also I makes Both trans and T-cace easier to work on.:lol:

Removed the rear stock shackle bracket and tried installing the DIY4X flip kit. It wouldn't work due to the hanger difference in the 73-87 hangers. I thought I could make it work but no such luck. It almost sits level right now. I spoke with Kurt today and he is going to swap me out for the correct hangers. Can't beat that.

Starting engine remock up. The engine and trans are resting on the Ryanroo approved mocking cross member. :lol: The engine still needs to brought up about 2* and it'll be pretty close. NV4500 in, now to get the tcase on and see what's up.
