Preparing to put the motor from my 72 into the anniversary truck . This motor ran very well not an issue but I did find this changing out the oil pan gasket . Oil pressure never dropped off . Lucky I guess ordered a new Melling pump ,pick up screen and pump shaft . Definitely going to tig the new one when I get the depth set

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I had that happen on a '64 Impala. The oil light came on when slowing down an off ramp. Tapped the pan with a hammer, and it clunked back. Put another quart of oil in it to keep the oil pump gozinta covered with oil and nursed it to my parent's house to pull the engine. One of the neighbors was a machinist and he knurled the part of the screen assembly that presses into the pump. It was a new pump and the old screen that was on the engine prior to rebuilding.

Easiest way is to drive it back in then put a tack weld on it so it will never do that again.

I bought a set of headlight bezels for $20.
I had been thinking of adding a little black around the bulbs but wasn't sure I'd like it, so I figured I'd sacrifice the new purchase. All in the name of science, they were in OK condition but certainly not mint. So a little time prepping on a rainy day and some low gloss black my curiosity is somewhat satisfied. I'm glad I tried it on a second pair. My original ones are in pretty good shape. I'm not sure I like the results. |

'71 Jimmy has an all-chrome grille, and I like it. Black on the bezels might diminish the amount of light going forward. I like to light it up. :gmc2: |

Did some more work on the 350 . Innards are nice and clean I am going to do the valve guide seals . Whoever did this motor did some nice work like the stud for the distributor and the punch marks for it . Didn’t like the silicone mess to seal the intake nothing wrong with using it but at least smooth it out .

Got the heads off today intake valves were gummed up from the valve guides leaking . I’ll be dropping the heads off tomorrow to be done .
The pistons were carboned up but came out clean with a little acetone and trans fluid scrubbed with a nylon plush . .040 over so it’s a 355 ci the cylinder walls have no ridge no scoring either |

My grandson is getting real good with the tig . I pulled the lifters one at a time and put them back in their respective bores . No real wear on them or the cam .
