Painted the engine bay, almost ready to drive her for the first time... Miscellaneous parts arrived from LMC today as well. Over 2weeks delivery time and $86 shipping charge for $75 worth of parts...... The issues of owning an old american truck in the U.K (but its worth it)

It's not even 11:30 here and I'm beat to death.

Pretty much finished (I thought) cleaning up the rear wheel wells and undercarriage from paint overspray. Since the Krylon
black outdoor furniture paint held up pretty much on the drums, I decided to paint them again with something different than black .
This time, with something I already had in the cabinet. It's called Krylon Black Metallic....Although it really doesn't have any metallic
I can see in it. And it's really gray...:lol::lol: It's outdoor furniture paint, too.

When I painted the rear pass side drum, I noticed some...just a little... ooze on the backing plate from the brake cyl.
Bummer. Rebuild time.

After I cleaned up the garage I heard the truck at the gate bringing me the fender/paint - pad/protector thingies.

Gotta order some wheel cyl rebuild parts and think about getting under the front....Tomorrow's a good day for cleaning up
the front end wheel wells and suspension part's overspray.

Tonite: Give the 350 a full tune up. Wash the truck and clean out the inside.
Tomorrow morning: Get two new tires and an alignment, load up the ice chest and the toolbox, then I'm gonna head down to Escondido, CA for the Cruisin' Grand: C-10 Club Night.

Thursday night: changed the points, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, spark plug wires and gave her a full tune-up, finished up at 10 pm.

Friday: Went and got new front tires and had an alignment done. Went home, packed up the backpack, some tools, and headed down to Escondido for Cruisn' Grand. The truck made it fine.

Saturday: Woke up made the trip home from Escondido.

I was going to take a nap, but I'm motivated to continue working on the interior of the truck, sounded like I was riding in a tin can, gonna change that with new headliner, door panels, weatherstripping, and carpet. Before that, I need to paint the dash, kick panels, cab ceiling, pillars, back window area and then finish it off with a radio/speakers install. Then I'll finally get the cst seats (buddy buckets) upholstered, collapse the steering column, install a bigger diameter steering wheel, a dash pad and install a new tach/guage cluster.

I drove it to my favorite Pick-A-Part Junkyard & went diving , I found some 1 gauge battery cables on some old Cadillacs , the ends were those nasty "Add-A-Clamp" repair things but I need some spare battery cables for my 292 make run before installation project so , even @ $12.00 each (GA$P ! WTH ?!) I was happy as each cable is about 4' long and the 1 gauge thing means easy cranking hot or cold .

I found one of those hard to find oil filler extensions too , it'll go on my Cadillac Hearse as there's so much junk over and around the valve cover it's easy to spill oil when topping up on road trips .

Okay. It's done. Just did the right rear that's in the pic.

For anyone's info: I knew it was drizzin' a couple of days ago. So, I ordered a wheel cyl from LMC for $19.95. I was going to get the driver's side (rear) at the same time,
but I was staring at an almost $60 price for both with shipping.

Then, I searched a thread on the Forum. People were touting Napa's USA made replacements. The auto parts store closest to me is a Napa. I use 'em all the time.
Sometimes they are crabby, but I can live with that. I went online last night and "reserved" a right rear wheel cyl. for pick up in the store today.

This morning, when we had to go out for other stuff, I stopped by the Napa... ...opened at 10:00....Sunday.

I came away with the wheel cylinder. Another one for the left (driver's) side, a quart of DOT 3, a new bleeding tube, and three big-a$$ cans of Napa brake cleaner.

$38.

When the LMC shipment comes in five days or so, I'll just crank the $27 as the price tag for the ticket that will make me think instead of acting too fast next time.

I dropped in the new skip white dizzy and wires I've had for a couple of years. The old dizzy was an old gm hei one and the wires were a mismatched set just to get it running. Initially after startup it ran great but after I rev'd it a few times it went to running crappy again and real rich. It means the qjet carb has to come off now. I rebuilt it with the engine a few years ago. The truck has zero miles on it since the rebuild though.

Drove my LS powered 67 from Long Beach CA to Coronado Island on Friday. I drove it back home tonight to my home in Pasadena. Ran like a champ and even got to show a few imports, European, what old American iron with a modern motor will do.

Took the headliner off and painted it from blue to black, cleaned and resprayed the trim with silver to brighten it back up( because I refuse to spend 129.00 for repop junk). Cleaned the interior walls and sprayed the door panels also from blue to black, ordered some headers and gonna get the exhaust done next week!

Re : Driving Report

Just so ~

Often as I'm driving my '69 C/10 Stepper home up the Pasadena freeway with it's wheezing 250 I6 I'll get into the fast lane before reaching Highland Park and whizz past those lowered crap cans and BMW's etc. through the Av. 64 underpass @ 75 + MPH ~ I can see their eyes big as saucers as they slow down and I don't :metal: .

These trucks really handle well right out of the box with just good rubber & shocks ~ no tire squealing , no drifting , nothing , it just goes where I point it .

:chevy: .

I drove my 72 to work on saturday; approx. 50 miles round trip. This has been the longest trip since engine and tranny rebuild, It only has about 175 mile on it. It ran great; still think the carb could use some tweaking!! It really sucked down some gas!! Almost 7.5 gallons used. Is this normal?? I'm used to my daily driver, 91 Nissan sentra, 28 mpg.

I spoke with and emailed Wes from Classic Heartbeat about just how my cab to frame bushings go. Apparently I was right on the money!

I paid for a cab firewall patch panel and began the process of getting a set of front brackets for my grill.

50 ÷ 7.5 = 6.67 mpg.

Probably normal...That is, if you have a 552 with two fours and a blower.
Then again, I'm afraid to do the math on mine.
And, a 552 it's not!!!!

At the suggestion of a Forum Member, I bought this for after the paint cures:

http://tinyurl.com/pym422x

The Ultrashield version.

Since her (wife's) car just got hit by a bunch of quarts of bad stuff when someone rolled over in front of us, and the
garage has only one good spot, RAT will have to stay outside after The Boss' car gets its $4,862 worth of paint work.

By the time her car is out of the body shop, my paint will have "gassed off". :bann:

Cleaned up some more clear overspray in the fender wells and undercarriage (thought that was what masking was for), pulled the steering wheel to get it on the correct (straight) spline, and finally got a couple of decent shots in the driveway.

In other words, just playin'.

Just put in for a set of grill brackets and other brackets I might need. Checked on powder coating vs. just painting the core support and inner fenders. I will probably just paint everything.

Called and found out my carb will be ready Friday.
