I did a white oak counter top and it came out very nicely. By the time I took pictures she had it all loaded up with her junk and it's been that way ever since. She even had a granite cutting board cut that covers one whole top. Granite is overrated. It'll dull a knife quicker than snot Quote:

I made a real nice two inch thick black walnut cutting board a few years ago . Watched the misses take out the old cutting board and put it on the new one when she’s cutting up veggies . |

Even though the wood had dried for three years it developed a stress crack . So I had to cut it and add a piece of maple . I also finished the backsplash .

You guys do nice work! Here's a maple end grain cutting board I made. That maple is hard! I bought about 40 stair balusters that had yet to be turned. Habitat ReStore sold them to me for $80 +tax. They were 1-3/4 X 1-3/4 X 40 inches. What a steal!

That counter is really nice! Wife wants a new counter and sink. I know a reliable contractor who is going to do that and install all new kitchen cabinets. I have more money than energy, these days...meaning not much energy. It'd take me months to do the cabinets.

I love the rustic look. That counter was semi-rustic I guess. I saved every scrap of that old oak. It came from a 250 year old building and the tree we figured was about 250 years old when cut. That tree started growing 500 years ago!

Since we did Christmas yesterday with my family and tomorrow we go to the misses family decided it was as good a time as any to make some more cutting boards . These are Ash that was dying from the Emerald ash borer . I kept the live edge as the it looked interesting the way the borer made its tunnels

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That will be one nice ash cutting board

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

well i've been working on this for more than today, but today i'm finished and will move onto something else.i bought a sheet metal brake from Princess Auto here(like Harbor Freight in the States)brought it home and never opened it cause i KNEW it was going to be cheap China junk so back it went,i thought i can build something better,so here it is,a 48 inch metal brake,a place off the side to mount my shear,a old antique Record swivel vise my Father-in-law gave me.i took it all apart, cleaned, greased, painted it and put it back together and that gives me a place to mount my bead roller off the other side of the table or whatever else i need a vice for, then across the back, what i call a pipe vise but i'm sure that's not the proper name.2 different sized pipes that let me roll metal over a pipe for a driveshaft tunnel,a transmission tunnel or whatever?i played with some scrap material and i think this is going to work just fine.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
That is a slick metal working station. You should build and sell those. I'll put my order in now

I know what to buy and avoid. You have the Perfect Work Bench. Do you have a Beverly Shear hiding there somewhere? Great Job on the Bench. :metal::metal::metal: |
